Lara was obviously still in Russia last weekend, since she stopped by MTV studios in that country, where she was confronted by rumors about her relationship with Igor Krutoi. The reason for it was obvious: Lara and Igor have been going around together for the Mlle. Zhivago album for months now, and that is guaranteed to generate rumors (the same thing happened when Lara was spending time with Gigi d’Alessio in her aborted attempt to enter the Italian market). In this case Lara seemed genuinely amused by the question of ‘where is Gerard’, noting that each was in a happy relationship while decrying the old double standard, by responding “why don’t you ask Igor where his wife is – staying home with the kids” (as is Gerard). She suggested that respect and friendship can exist between a man and a woman without more being involved – and also took the opportunity to thank Igor once again for the great music he’s been writing for her. Videos of this interview (with Lara speaking English in the background) are available on the standard websites, and on youtube at:

There were no other public appearances, and none is scheduled, at this time, for almost the rest of the month. However, beginning in March, Lara should be visible in various venues. At the end of February, Lara in conjunction with other female singers (e.g., Chimene Badi, Elodie Frege, Nolwenn Leroy, Véronique Sanson, Jenifer, etc.) will each record songs whose title is the name of a woman (Chamin Badi is to sing ‘Mathilde’). The program will be televised on France 3 March 7th, in conjunction with the ‘day of the rights of women’ (March 8th; you may remember that Lara’s video recording of her ‘TLFM font leur show’ took place last year on that date). In addition, a CD entitled ‘Parole de Femmes’ will be released in March. It’s not clear what song Lara will sing, although one person suggested ‘Babacar’.
Back in Russia, on February 3rd Lara recorded the "Dostoyanie Respubliki Show", scheduled to be broadcast sometime in the coming weeks. Pictures from this event can be found at:
www.pure-lara.fr/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=123&Itemid=27
In addition, we know that in the beginning of March, the PBS program “Hit Man Returns: David Foster and Friends” will be broadcast, to be accompanied by a CD/DVD including Lara’s two performances, “Caruso” and ‘”The Prayer” with Michael Bolton.
And finally, the possibility of Lara appearing on “Dancing with the Stars” in France will just not go away. ‘Nicholasleroy’ on the official site forum writes that Lara will be appearing in the coming weeks. To me this would be a great thing, although many of the fans seem to disagree. There has been no official confirmation (which means nothing).
There are currently several fan projects underway. Those who would like Lara to release TLFM1, even just on her website, are writing into the official site forum (under the thread “Nouvelle version de tlfm”) asking for it, with the hope that if there is a large enough response, Lara will agree to it. So far more than 60 disc requests have been made. It’s not guaranteed that this approach will work, given the number required to make it financially worthwhile, to say nothing of the other issues (e.g. Universal’s dislike of the album in the first place), but it seems to be worth a try if one is interested.
In addition, fans want to make a photo montage / video of fans from around the world, as a gift for her. "The goal is to show Lara that we are all united, despite the borders! We would like all fans, Canadians, Portuguese, Chinese, Russian, English…” The idea is to take a picture of yourself, or with other fans of Lara, with a banner that reads:
"With you Angels Brussels 2011"
These photos will then be assembled to “involve also the angels who can not come August 13, 2011 in Brussels”, and presented to Lara in some fashion.

Now for the Lara biography, pp. 36-40:
**After the end of her association with Franck Olivier in Quebec, Lara returned to Brussels, pretty depressed. Her friend Nathalie dragged her to a piano bar whose barman was also a pianist; Nathalie thought Lara might be interested in meeting him. He actually came into the bar during an ‘open mike’ portion of the evening while Lara was singing. His first words to Lara were: “It is you!”. That was, of course, Rick Allison. His next words to Lara were, “I want to marry you". At that point she wanted to leave, but he convinced her to come on stage with him and sing ‘Summertime’ – which got her to stay!
**Rick was already working for a music studio in Brussels as guitarist and arranger, and helped record young artists. At the time of their meeting in 1990 he is 25, she is 20.
**The first song he gave to her was ‘Dire’, and while in Belgium they wrote a number of songs together. However, Lara is prohibited from recording in Europe. After Eurovision she signed a contract with a French company, but ended up not liking the financial and artistic conditions they imposed on her for her first album – so she did nothing for them. This then suggested that she return to Quebec, now with Rick, to produce an album there.
**But they had no money – so her father gave her his life’s savings, $1000. He said he would not have given it to her simply because she was his daughter, if he didn’t think she had talent. But he said he ‘saw some little thing there’.
**To support herself in Montreal, Lara took a number of small jobs: beautician in a perfume store, a sales girl in markets, etc. But Rick dragged her to piano bars and small nightclubs to keep alive her dream of being a singer. They even toured the province of Quebec in an old Chevy. Word-of-mouth started increasing Lara’s reputation. She has said that in three weeks they covered 10,000 km, she gave 75 interviews and sang 250 songs (including ‘Dire’ and ‘Reveille-toi brother’).
**However, Lara had no record company, so they made their own demo recording and started sending it around. They hit pay-dirt when Lise Richard, director of Musicor, happened to listen to it while stuck in a traffic jam, and proclaimed “I’ve found my Streisand!”
**Lise quit her job to manage performers, chiefly Lara, and tried to get other record companies interested, but this was a time when ‘singers of voice’ were not in vogue [just like now!]. So the three of them – Lara, Rick and Lise – started their own company that they called “Les productions clandestines” and created their label ‘Fabsong’ (‘Fab’ from Lara and ‘son’ from Allison].
**They then released their first album, “Lara Fabian” in which Rick and Lara collaborated on three songs together, ‘Dire’, ‘Reveille-toi Brother’ and ‘Qui pense a l’amour’. It saw the light of day in August 1991, but not much happened until one winter evening, when all Quebec was at home due to a snowstorm, they saw Lara on TV. The next day sales took off.
Unless she is still in Russia, or has already left for NY, perhaps Lara will have some time to rejoin her family in the coming week(s) - and give the rumor-mongers a rest!
