Lara’s four concerts in Moscow finished this past week. From all reports they were a great success, and the few videos that are available show a beautiful Lara singing with great power. Several on-line accounts also offer unqualified praise. The number of videos has been limited because amateur recording was forbidden, with the live DVD undoubtedly in mind (some fans noted that the concerts were extremely well-lit, more so than for the average show, even for shows being recorded). However ‘Alena’, who in the past has given us great videos from Moscow, has recently begun putting some more on the Russian forum site (which means they’ll be available elsewhere in short order). ‘Fabianko’ on the official site forum reported that the concert (or select songs from the three which were recorded) is actually going to be shown live on Russian TV (RTR) on November 26th (presumably to be indicated at rutv.ru). ‘jonlee’ on the official site forum indicated that a DVD of the show will be released next fall, with an accompanying CD.
There is still a question in some minds about whether particular songs during these concerts were lip-synched or not, although one person involved with the live recording of the show for the DVD indicated that everything was live. In general, the fans on the Russian forum believe some 7 songs were lip-synched, including “Lou” and “Mama”. The French fans feel that Lara’s ability to closely mimic her recorded performance should not be underestimated, and they hear subtle differences on the videos relative to the CD. Perhaps we’ll have a better idea when the show/DVD becomes available.
A video has appeared on youtube of Lara singing the Russian song, which looks like it is possibly from the Russian TV show. For those of you who haven’t seen it, it’s at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=caMmdH7uPXA
If this is indeed what the TV show will be like, it will be well worth seeing! Hopefully it will be captured by the Russian fans, or someone else, and made available. Similarly, the DVD may well be spectacular.
‘Speranza9’ on the official site forum, in a post, captured the mood of many with the following (translated) comments:
--------------------------------------------
“I have long waited to see Lara as presented here. There are great compositions, one of the greatest voices of this world, a great decor in a beautiful large room, beautiful gowns, a large public .... Well damn, it remains only to see the results of sales that have already been announced as great!
This show will probably be shown around the world because I doubt they have put so much money, so much investment to remain only in the countries of Eastern Europe. It's really a damn big project, up to the enormous talent of Lara, thank you Igor Krutoi!”
--------------------------------------------
Some other events of note are that Lara fell during one of the concerts, but appeared o.k. Lara’s performance of ‘Je suis malade’ ended with her singing a capella, as in the ‘old days’. Lou presented her a bouquet of flowers, which brought Lara to tears. Speaking of which, this was in some sense a ‘coming out’ party for Lou, as she was quite visible to everyone – the days of Lara hiding her are apparently over, at least while she is in countries other than France and Belgium.
In association with the album and concert promotion, Lara has been on various shows in Russia and the Ukraine. The most ambitious of these was ‘Female Look”, in which Lara’s life story was retold through interviews with her and her father, with old pictures, and numerous portions of videos from ETI, Neuf and URN. The show of course was dubbed into Russian (somewhat frustratingly, given that Lara was speaking in English!). Nevertheless, one gets the idea that no subject was considered verboten, and if nothing else it showed that Lara is willing to talk about her personal life, including Patrick Fiori, any place apparently except France and Belgium. The message that comes through from the show is that while Lara has experienced tough times, she considers them lessons for learning, and as long as one stays positive and in the moment, all will be well. Video of this as well as the other shows are available on the web (youtube, larafabiannews.com and Christina’s sites).
Claire Daugé Alias Titoune has taken the pictures of the young Lara presented here and combined them with others we have of her from childhood through teenage years. They are available on the ‘Pure-Lara’ facebook page,
www.facebook.com/pages/Pure-Lara/328265375525?ref=search
go down the page for ‘PHOTOS L’. On the same site, you can note that a wonderful 2011 calendar is available for downloading – don’t miss it!
In addition, we finally have a high quality version of Lara singing ‘Russian Fairy Tale”, from the TV show ‘Musical Ring’. Alone with the high quality video of the Russian song noted above, that means we have TV quality performances of almost all the songs from the new album (with the exception of `Desperate Housewife’ and ‘Tomorrow is a Lie’ – and videos of those are available from the concerts in the Ukraine and Moscow). So we could create our own DVD of the new album; we’ll see how much of it is actually show on the Russian TV show/official DVD.
Lara did verify that she will be buying a house in either Kiev or Moscow, further cementing the impression that she has decided that at least part of her future lies in these countries. At the same time it was noted in the press that Justine Henin had bought Lara’s old house in Brussels (for 1 million euros).
As for the album itself, more responses are coming in on the official site. The general viewpoint is very highly favorable. A special thread will be created recounting these opinions, and offering the opportunity to add your own. Another thread will provide the lyrics in English (to the best of our understanding). 'jonlee' on larafabianweb.com noted that in the week before its release in Russia, Mlle. Zhivago was 434th on the Russian charts, and was being played on 48 radio stations in 130 cities. The week of its release it was still 434th, but now was being played on 55 radio stations in 156 cities.
In other news, ‘jonlee’ indicated that Michael Bolton’s Christmas album will be released in England on November 29th, and it will include his duet with Lara of ‘The Prayer’. Presumably one will be able to download the particular song if one doesn’t want the whole album.
Promotion is still on-going for the ‘best of’ album, whose release is imminent. Lara’s new song “On s'aimerait tout bas” is still getting regular airplay in France, and Lara’s past hits were shown on “Chanson TV” – the four part video is available on the web.
And this coming week is another big one for Lara – when we thought this fall season would be quite productive for her, we weren’t wrong! Today she will be on the show ‘Chabada’, where she will sing “Requiem pour un fou”, “Je t'aime” and “On s'aimerait tout bas”. This is in promotion for the ‘Best of’ to be released next Monday – along with the live DVD ‘TLFM font leur show”. And during next week Lara’s appearance on the TV show ‘Dans l’universe de Lara Fabian’ will be broadcast. More immediately, in the ‘countries to the east’, Lara has three shows in St. Petersburg (November 9-11). We can expect the French TV shows to be available via NABBOX, and hopefully there will be more videos from St. Petersburg of her live show, now that the official recording won’t be taking place. Lara is certainly having plenty of fulfilling moments to live in!
