For a change, there were several items of interest to rival the Mlle. Zhivago filming this past week.
Lara left a new message on her website (although despite her presumed interest in the international audience, it was still only in French). A translation into English is available on Christina’s blogs and larafabiannews.com. As can be seen, she apologizes for not having written recently (in the past 6 months), and mentions that she is involved in a ‘musical film’ (the first ‘official’ notification of the Mlle. Zhivago project). Other than that, it was basically a ‘keeping in touch’ (however belatedly) message. Fans were happy to hear from her, but wondered why, after all this time, she couldn’t have provided something that took more than 10 seconds to write (she even was grammatically incorrect). For example, no discussion of her concert in Turkey, or of her going to Quebec (the concert in Turkey was never officially acknowledged in her concert listings, nor even given a thread in the forum concerts section). Undoubtedly Lara is very busy…but this is clearly a low priority for her. At least her official message no longer starts off with ‘Happy New Year’…☺
And Lara did give her concert in Turkey this past Saturday night, preceded by a news conference where she responded to journalist’s questions. As seen in the excerpt shown on the web, of interest was Lara’s statement that she uses Italian to speak of her passions, French for practical things, and English for her music (therefore, one would have to conclude that Lara must view her new messages on her site as ‘practical’ ☺ ). Clearly the Turkish journalists were not aware of Lara’s taboos (or they chose to ignore them) – she would not comment on Lou, was no longer working with Rick Allison, and, no, she would not sing ‘I Will Love Again’!
Concerning the concert itself, it was basically acoustic with a mix of older and newer songs (from TLFM and EWIM). Lara was reported to be in good vocal form (though perhaps a bit tired), and quite happy. This can be seen in the few videos available on youtube – which include a portion of her acoustic version of ‘Soleil soleil’ (hence, she obviously could have done the acoustic version of ‘I Will Love Again’). One can also see that she wore a truly beautiful patterned pants suit, which Christina noted is a favorite of her as she has worn it for several previous performances. The concert got excellent reports in the press and was featured on TV news shows. Fans were able to prepare some surprises for her, including posters indicating how much they loved her. One report called it ‘A Turkish delight’. All in all, a continuation of her concert experiences outside of France from earlier in the year.
Back to Mlle. Zhivago, Christina noted in her reponse to last week’s news update that the song playing in the background on the clip ‘Portrait de famille’ was an instrumental version of ‘Leora’. Tarcisio provided an mp3 version of it, available at:
www.4shared.com/audio/MvmXwkjI/Leora_Instrumental_.html
He also noted that Igor Krutoi said that the lyrics for this song are in Spanish.
We are now rapidly approaching the July 8th date that was marked as the end of the filming; and more to the point, Lara must be getting ready to leave for Quebec and her concert there on July 10th. This would imply that all the clips have been/are now being filmed, although we really haven’t seen much that is new in the past week. What we have seen recently are a number of TV reports about the filming, mostly Ukrainian but occasionally Russian, as well as a Russian magazine article. Some of these have even tried to suggest that Lara and Igor are having a ‘relationship’, unlikely as that may be given Gerard’s presence, due primarily to the sexy scenes shot for ‘Morphine’. Anything to titillate the audience…
A great deal of skepticism was visible on the official forum this week concerning Mickey’s timeline of Lara’s activities in the coming fall and winter. This followed recognition of past predictions of his that failed to materialize (although he has had some advance information). Of course the same is true of Lara’s own predictions, but at least in her case, one knows the source! Mickey repeated that Lara would be in France in October to promote the live DVD. He also noted in passing that EWIM is now available even in some small supermarkets, which, if true, is good news. It’s likely that the CD/DVD releases he foresaw will eventually come to pass, but the particulars may well be in error, or subject to change; and that’s especially true for his predictions of her personal appearances.
Lara returns to the ‘new world’ this coming week, hopefully the start of a big push for her latest albums in Canada. In her new message Lara suggested that summer vacations are now upon us – maybe that includes her, too, perhaps at her home in Montreal (assuming she’s really finished with the filming). If so, it will be a very well-deserved rest.
