With the date of June 3rd somehow caught in people’s minds for the release of TLFM1, Nathalie on the official site finally responded – saying that there is no official (or unofficial) word of any such release on that date. The denial was of course of a limited nature; we don’t know whether it will be released shortly after that, or even at all, although both Lara and Matt Herskowitz have indicated that it is their intention to do so. We’ve seen what happens to good intentions in the past, however, especially when Lara is involved…☺. It’s also been suggested by fans that perhaps it could be included as a bonus disc for the live DVD. Matt Herskowitz himself is preparing for the June release in Canada and France of his latest album “Jerusalem Trilogy”, and has mentioned nothing about an upcoming release with Lara in the recent messages on his site .
Concerning TLFM itself, it has fallen to 74th (from 44th) on the charts in Belgium, but has been in the top 100 for 42 weeks so far. Its most recent fall is probably associated with Lara’s lack of concert dates and being out of the news in general. Shown below is a comparison of how this album did in Belgium relative to Lara’s other albums. “Weeks” indicates weeks in the top 100.
Title.................................Year...........Entry..........Peak.......Weeks
9.....................................2005........12/03/2005.....2............39
A Wonderful Life................2004.........05/06/2004....4............20
Carpe diem.......................1995.........26/09/1998..16............21
En toute intimité................2003.........25/10/2003....1............42
Lara Fabian.......................1999.........28/08/1999....2............36
Live [1999].......................2002.........06/03/1999....1............42
Nue.................................2001..........08/09/2001....1............55
Pure................................1997..........16/08/1997....3............98
Toutes les femmes en moi..2009...........30/05/2009...1............42
Un regard 9 - Live.............2006...........28/10/2006...3............23
From this perspective, it has not done so badly, in Belgium at least. It actually has spent more time on the charts than ‘9’ for example, and it is still in the top 100; with one more week, it will move into third place, behind ‘Pure’ and ‘Nue’. Weeks on the chart is an imperfect indicator of an album’s success, and doesn’t translate directly to total number of discs sold, even relative to other singers (an album could be spending all its time in the 90s, for example, although that’s probably not likely). However relative to Lara’s other albums it may actually be a less biased indicator than simply discs sold, as the demand for CDs in general has dropped, and downloading and/or buying on the web has increased over time for all artists.
Lara dropped out of the top 100 in France the week of 3/15-3/22, and out of the top 200 about one month later. It spent 28 weeks in the top 100, and 46 weeks in the top 200. Here is a similar comparison with Lara’s other albums in France:
Name....................................Top 100............Top 200
9.............................................55.....................85
A Wonderful Life........................13.....................17
Carpe Diem..............................35 (only top 75 tracked)
En toute intimité ......................29......................49
Lara Fabian..............................16 (only top 75 tracked)
Live [1999]..............................47 (only top 75 tracked)
Nue........................................78.......................84 (only top 150)
Pure.....................................111 (only top 75 tracked)
Toutes les femmes en moi.........28.......................46
Un regard 9 - Live.....................6........................15
From the perspective in France, it is near the bottom, leading only URN and the two English albums. Undoubtedly the initial negative reviews hurt its sales in France. The numbers suggest that relative to other artists, Lara is currently more popular in the French portion of Belgium than she is in France.
Lara’s fans in Russia and elsewhere and Christina (see her Greek music box in English) have been keeping tabs on the status of the upcoming Mme. Zhivago movie. Of recent interest is a youtube video of the new actor (Maks Barskih) made by the movie’s director (Alan Badoev), as well as a ‘making of the clip’ video (thanks to larabest):

Maks Barskih, whose new role is that of a Russian soldier, is apparently a sex symbol in the country, emphasizing again that this is shaping up as a big, important project. The press conference prior to the filming is scheduled for the end of May, when Lara arrives in Kiev. Prior to that time, one would expect Lara to maximize quality interactions with her family, and stay out of the public eye.
