Another week of (presumed) rest for Lara, with little news of any consequence.
After 11 months on the French charts, TLFM is no longer in the top 200. It is still in the top 50 in Belgium. Total sales are estimated (by fans) to be ~120,000, although that number could be off. It may be that when the DVD is released, sales will pick up again, especially if there is not a “Live CD” as well.
As Tarcisio noted on larafabiannews.com and the official site, some 40,000 people are expected to attend a ‘Best of Belgium’ tennis match between Kim Clijsters and Justine Henin. It’s suggested that this will break the record for tennis attendance. In an opening ceremony, 12 Belgian artists will sing, Lara being one of them. The event is to mark the fact that Belgium gains the presidency of the European Union in July. You may have heard that Kim Clijsters just broke a bone in her foot and is expected to miss at least 6 weeks of action, but presumably that will not prevent the July 8th event from taking place.
As an aside, the discussion on the official site wandered off into the politics of the French versus Flemish aspects of Belgium, and the anti-French discrimination that is occurring there. Coincidentally, the New York Times this past week had an article about how the French feel discriminated against world-wide, with the ‘Americanization’ of language, especially on the internet. The Times article pointed out, however, that the use of French is actually growing in the world, especially in Africa, and that nowadays a majority of the people who speak French don’t live in France. They don’t live in Belgium, either, apparently.
Another item that received some interest on the official forum was the now acknowledged failure of Lara to release TLFM in Quebec. What wasn’t discussed to any great extent was her failure to release EWIM there, either. English albums are getting more play in Montreal these days – just go into any of the remaining record stores – and perhaps Lara, still a Canadian citizen, would have found an interesting niche with it. She indicated recently that due to her busy schedule she had not yet had time to vacation in Quebec this year, and it doesn’t look very promising for the future, either, given her upcoming plans. But when she finally does go, perhaps the fact that her latest releases are now not available there, her ‘favorite country’, might spark some action on her part.
For those of you who haven’t been paying particular attention, there are now enough videos on the web to put together complete DVDs of Lara’s recent shows in St. Petersburg (on Feburary 15th), Martigues (March 10th) and in Tel Aviv (considering the shows from March 28th and 30th). And there are a few nice pictures of Lara from her concert in Moldavia, courtesy of “Immortelle” on p. 16 of the concert thread on the official forum.
A short extract available on French TV includes Lara talking about Gregory LeMarchal, in the special which is to be broadcast on the 28th. This is the only event in which Lara is scheduled to be seen this coming week.
