Now that the TLFM show is over, Lara has some more leeway to attend different venues, and one such arose this week, the show ‘Io Canto’ (‘I Sing’) televised on channel 5 in Italy and initially discussed in the thread for last week’s update. Competing in this program for children aged 7-15 was Cristian Imparato, who you may remember had wowed the audience in earlier weeks with his performance of ‘Adagio’ – and to whom Lara sent a letter, read on the TV show, indicating how impressed she was with him. Now Lara had a chance to join him in a duet, and it was extremely successful, as one can see on Youtube. So successful, in fact, that Cristian won the contest (although he probably would have anyway, even without Lara).
Lara also sang with another contestant ‘Perdere l’amore’, again a demanding song, although in this shorter version Lara did carry the hardest vocal part. This presents an opportunity for something I’ve been planning to do for some time: post an improved version of the translated lyrics for this song (compared to one I passed around several years ago). It’s improved because it was done by someone (‘The new citizen’) who actually understands Italian!

Losing the Love
(translation by 'The new citizen')
And now … leave everybody
I want to be alone
With melancholy
Flying in its sky
I never asked who you were
Why you chose me
Me who until yesterday
Believed I was a king!
Losing the love, when the evening comes
When in the hair
A bit of silver colors it
You risk going crazy, you heart can break!
Losing a woman and wishing to die!
Let me scream, deny Heaven,
Stone all the dreams
Still on the wing!
I will make them fall, one by one
I will break the wings of Destiny
And I will have you close to me!
However, I understand you
And I admit I was wrong
I made your choices (who knows, who knows)
Goodness knows what I was claiming
And now all that remains
Of all our time together
Is a (wo)man too alone
Who still cares for you
Losing the love, when the evening comes
When upon the face,
There's a wrinkle that wasn't there before
You try to reason, you make yourself indifferent,
Until you realize that
That you were of no use to anything!
And you wish to scream, to suffocate the sky,
To hit the head a thousand times against the wall,
To breathe deeply
Into her pillow
To say it is all the fault of destiny
If I haven't you next to me
Losing the love! Damned evening,
That picks up the pieces
Of an imaginary life!
You think that tomorrow is a new day
But you repeat: I was not expecting it!
I was not expecting it!
Stone all the dreams still on the wing!
I will make them fall one by one,
I will break the wings of Destiny
And I will have you close to me!
Losing the love!

Lara got good reviews for her performance, from both the Italian press and even a French publication (‘Pure People’) – which in their own snide way, emphasized that it showed Lara doing what she does best, sing! The event was also quite good for Lara’s ‘career’ in Italy – it was reported that 5.1 million people watched it (second most on TV that night), and that Lara’s Italian version of Adagio entered the Italian charts at #48. In addition, ‘larabest’ noted that 140,000 people watched the video of Lara and Christian on youtube in three days (with 78,000 watching the New Wave transmission of ‘Demain n’existe pas’ – both likely heavily tapping audiences outside of France). A nice warm-up for the upcoming multi-lingual album.
Speaking of which…according to Alan Badoev, interviewed in the magazine ‘OK Ukraine’ (thanks to Christina and ‘chris du 78’), the filming of the ‘musical short story’ movie clips that will accompany the new album is scheduled to begin May 20th. You may remember that tt was said it will feature Lara as a brunette (her original color ☺ ). Most of the fans writing in to the official site forum were not happy about that!
Lara was interviewed in the ‘Republican-lorrain’ today, prior to her upcoming concerts in that region. Perhaps the most interesting thing was that Lara indicated she still has the dreams she had as a child, including to ‘perform on-stage in the Hollywood Bowl' and to take acting parts in the theatre and cinema. While she has often mentioned the acting dream, one senses a new optimism on her part – for the last couple of years, when asked whether she still had the same drive as before, she would say that she is more serene. Here one senses a renewed ambition, which can only lead to more production for Lara’s fans to enjoy. The article, including a nice picture, can be found at:

TLFM has dropped 16 places to 83rd on the French charts. No confirmation yet on June 3rd as the date for the release of TLFM1.
Lara has two acoustic concerts coming up, at Ludres (on the 24th) and Yutz (on the 25th). Perhaps we’ll get a better reading of the words of the song ‘Mirage’, for which there are still several competing interpretations.
