As noted in another post, Lara appeared at the competition of young singers, the “New Wave 2009” festival in Latvia this past week, and performed several songs: a new, completely orchestrated version of “Demain n’existe pas”, as well as “Adagio”. In addition, she joined a host of other singers in a rendition of “You Are Not Alone”, a tribute to Michael Jackson. The solos were apparently done with lip-synching but they are compelling none the less. Videos of the performance are available on Youtube, with the exact listings given in the other thread.
A discussion of Lara on this show was presented on ozap.com where it was stated (as it was at the end of the video) that “Demain n’existe pas” will be the first single from Lara’s new album “Le Secret”. The report said that Lara confirmed she had already recorded a part of the album, whose date of release has still not been announced (though it is expected to be at the beginning of 2010).
Note that it is completely out of character for Lara to perform a song when its album has yet to be released – yet she has done that not only with this title, but also with “Lou”, performed in Moscow. Does this mean she is, in effect, already giving up on the albums of reprises (TLFM, EWIM) in response to the critics? And how does it relate to her comments in ‘Platine’ that her next album would be the score written by the Israeli composer, with symphonic backing?
These questions should not obscure the wonderful reception that this new song is getting from Lara’s fans; there have even been comments that Igor Krutoi (who wrote the music) may well be Lara’s next ‘Rick Allison’. The article in ozap notes that it marks a return to the ‘Fabianesque’ form of “Je t’aime” and “J’y crois encore”. The whole proceedings further underline the push Lara is making for the ‘Russian/Slavic’ market; the TV show was broadcast live in Russia.
Lara did not appear on ‘The talk show de l’ete’ that was scheduled for last night. Apparently the channel changed the programs, or the information on the official site was wrong. Presumably it will appear eventually. Her appearance on ‘La boite a musique’ on France 2 has been scheduled to be broadcast on August 14th.
Lara was the subject of an article in the magazine “100% Exclusif” with the (translated) title: “A cabal against Lara Fabian?” A scan of it is available here (p.10-11) thanks to billy7 on the official site; it is too small to see the words, but one can imagine that Lara must feel this way sometimes!
Another quiet week publicly coming up, at least according to the (unreliable) official site (which didn’t list the event of the past week).
