This review came from a Mario fan.
First Mario came alone on stage. He looked a bit nervous, but being the great performer he is, you could not hear anything of it when he started to sing. He began with “Nights in white satin” and afterwards sang amongst others Vincero, Perdero and – it looked as if it was just for me – my all-time favourite “Hijo de la Luna…” It was FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never heard him sing this song LIFE! So, it was as a gift from heaven and I cried a little being overwhelmed with emotions!
After his first opening songs he introduced Lara on stage and a lot of people started to shout, whistle and so…. I have never ever heard anything like it in my whole life before! She was laughing and then she explained that some fans of her had come from France just to see and hear her that night! She and Mario sang the beautiful De Lovely song “So in Love…” Then, after a while Mario left her and she started with (again a gift from heaven for me!!) a song called “Je t’aime….” After that an English song for her “Angels” she said she had named her fans and then came a MASTERPIECE….. “Je suis malade” it was partially sung and partially like story telling and man oh man, was that beautiful! So that way I got rid of the rest of my make-up!
Also George came on stage and he seems to get better every time I hear him sing! His voice “matures” it’s becoming warmer and more intense and I loved to hear him sing “Argises” followed by a.o. “Sur le port d”Amsterdam”, “Ne me quitte pas” and some more songs of his new CD.
After the break Mario came on again and sang “Youkali”, Margaritha”, then a new song – a film track for a movie I think it was called Vita Nova (but I’m not sure of that anymore – tired, old, very late to bed and so on and so on…) plus a song which is usually sang by Aliki Kagialoglou – it’s named “O kemal”…. – and after the show I saw her when she was passing me on her way to the dressing rooms! Lara and George also did one song together – “Tu es mon autre”. She wrote the lyrics herself and George is singing it in Greek on his new CD.
Mario and George sang “Prepie den egie” and well, I can not remember anything more, so maybe I can fill in the blanks tomorrow because tonight I am going again (yes, sorry, my family in Holland are calling me “groupie” already and laugh about silly me……) or perhaps Birgit can add some more!
Last of all there was this “kind a like a grand finale” we clapped and whistled so long and loud that they (Mario and Lara) came back for one “encore”. The French fans cried out the word ADAGIO….. so she laughed and said that she had not practiced this song for that evening! But nevertheless – she asked Mario to forgive her for doing it, but she sang it without being accompanied by the musicians or Thodoris and it was like you could hear a pin fall, so quiet everybody listened to her! There are no superlatives enough to describe the feeling hearing her! Even Mario could not keep his eyes dry at that moment and after she stopped we all applauded giving her another standing ovation. Then Mario and Lara sang one last song together and that was it!
