This past week featured a rededication of Lara to her music, both present and future. In that sense, it was very good news for all those who follow Lara’s musical career.
In her new message on the official site, as mentioned and shown in other posts, Lara denied that there was any truth to the idea that she was going to be involved in a theatre production. In effect, this also means that the extensive list of media appearances given for her to promote the play was also a fiction. She indicated that the album will be released in the fall, and that there will be a tour to follow. That further says that the release date and tour indicated for 2009, again in great detail, also has no validity.
Even before Lara’s rebuttal, Annie, on Hezia’s site, noted that the drummer Adrien Verderame had indicated on his myspace page that he would be playing on Reunion Island with Lara on October 23 and 25th 2008,when she was supposed to be on stage in Paris.
Lara’s contradiction of information published by the non-official websites closest to Lara has provoked consternation on their part. The information, you may remember, came in an email from “Lara’s people”, but the website owners say they checked it with Universal France (as noted last week, nothing had ever previously come out concerning Lara from that entity). Was it an elaborate hoax, did Lara change her mind, did somehow people mistake something that had been planned last year for events this coming year? It’s made even more puzzling because the person who runs lara-fabian.net is one of the moderators of the Official site. The website owners (including larafabianweb.com) say they’re looking into these false sources.
The newsletter from several weeks ago wondered why Lara’s people would go around the official site to make these announcements; the thinking at the time was that maybe they were waiting for contracts to be signed before making it truly ‘official’. It turns out that those few voices who suggested waiting for the official site for confirmation, in this case, were the smart ones.
People have suggested that the false rumors were partly her own fault – since she stopped providing information about her plans, she has left room for others to step in, rightly or wrongly. And it took her several weeks to correct the rumors, giving them time to achieve validity – even on the official site forum, many pages were devoted to these plans. However, to put it in perspective, nobody was really inconvenienced by all of this, and Lara seemed to find it humorous. Nevertheless, she obviously found the need to correct it, because it was already seeming to undercut momentum for the new album. Lara’s conception of herself as an entertainer inadvertently extends to the entertainment she provides via these types of occurrences, which in one form or another seem to happen continually.
The idea that the album will revolve around classical music was not refuted by Lara, although she refused to say what it would involve – just something very different for her. The classical motif is undoubtedly true, for that came from Matt Herskowitz, who would be in a position to know.
Lara also mentioned in her report that she will have several meetings with fans this year – in Belgium and in Paris. This is good news not only for people who would be in a position to go, but also as an indication that she is truly interested in winning back fans who may have drifted away during her absence.
Also on the music front, Lara appeared over the weekend in Greece, her first on-stage singing appearance since last July. The songs she sang were (thanks to
Raphis on Hezia’s site):
So in love (in duo with Mario Frangouolis)
Je t'aime (a capella at the end)
I guess I loved you
Tu es mon autre (duo with Mario)
Broken Vow
Aime
Caruso (duo with Mario)
Je suis malade (a capella at the end)
All alone am I (in French and Greek, and she sang a bit in Greek)
La lettre (in duo with Giorgo Perry)
Adagio (a bit a capella)
And then as an encore,
All alone am I (with the audience).
(It’s not clear whether “All Alone Am I” is the same song as that sung by Brenda Lee.)
Hence, this was practically a full concert, another indication that Lara is eager to jump back into the musical fray. Those who attended described her singing as being ‘in Olympic form’.
She was also described as being luminous. You can see this for yourself, as Annie on Hezia’s site reported that there are photos of Lara from the concert at:
www.facebook.com/photo_se...6&view=all
(you must register with facebook to see them). And a few additional photos are available at: music-bug.blogspot.com/
This despite the fact that announcements were made strongly prohibiting people from taking photos, especially when Lara was on stage. [That doesn’t bode well for there being bootleg recordings…] She did pose for photos and give autographs outside the concert hall.
In (real) future news, Lara is now scheduled to give three concerts in Moscow (May 28-30) [and this IS confirmed on the official site]. It has been advertised in Moscow for some time that there would be more than one concert; the delay in having the official site announce it is one reason why people don’t wait for confirmation. This week has shown that sometimes they’re justified, and sometimes not!
