ElBaradei calls on US to provide Iran with reactors Davos: UN nuclear chief Mohamed ElBaradei has called on the United States to provide Iran with nuclear reactors, and urged Tehran to declare a moratorium on enriching uranium for at least eight years. He said eight or nine years would enable the country to earn the confidence of the international community that it was really interested in nuclear energy - not nuclear weapons.
The Iranians argue that they need to develop an enrichment capability because they cannot be assured of a guaranteed supply of fuel for a peaceful nuclear energy programme, ElBaradei said at a panel at the World Economic Forum on Friday.
"I would separate the issues of using nuclear technology for energy and to produce weapons," he said. "I would call upon the United States to provide Iran with reactors, and I would call upon Iran to declare a moratorium on enrichment for at least eight or nine years," until the country can earn the global community's confidence.
Iran provoked an international outcry on January 10, when it cut seals of the International Atomic Energy Agency at its main enrichment plant and resumed small-scale enrichment of uranium - a process that can be used to produce fuel for generating electricity or material for atomic bombs.
Britain, France and Germany - who have been leading European Union efforts to get Iran to abandon uranium conversion and enrichment activities - succeeded in getting the IAEA's board to meet on February 2, to discuss taking action against Iran, a move supported by the United States. The four countries want Iran to be referred to the UN Security Council.

Tammy Bruce comments: ElBaradei Makes Case for Straight-Jacket Elbaradei's delusion now cannot be dismissed, evidenced by his latest plan which would only help Ahmadinejad finish what Hitler started:

That's right. The US should supply Iran with nuclear reactors, and then we're supposed to sit around for another 8-9 years trusting a regime which had been breaking all international rules with its secret 18-year nuclear weapons program, exposed just 3 years ago.
This is the same Elbaradei and IAEA who had no idea about Korea's secret program, Libya's, or Iran's. This has now moved to the insane. I just hope Israel is prepared to once again save the world. At this stage I don't think we should presume, nor is it evident, that the Bush administration has the cajones to do the right thing here.

Iran to resume nuclear negotiations with EU trio Jan 28, 2006, 20:19 GMT Tehran - Iran will resume nuclear negotiations with the European Union trio Britain, France and Germany, an Iranian National Security Council official told the news agency ISNA Saturday.
The two sides will resume the talks on Monday in Brussels and the Iranian delegation will be led by the international deputy of the National Security Council, Javad Vaeidi, the official added.
The EU side had cancelled the previous round of talks scheduled for January 18 following the resumption of nuclear research work by Iran in at least three centres, including the nuclear enrichment site Natanz in central Iran.
Earlier Saturday Iran's Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki said a Russian plan to enrich Iranian uranium on Russian soil was still under serious evaluation.
'We are still seriously evaluating the Russian plan and discussions in this regard will continue on February 16 in Moscow,' Mottaki said in a press conference in Tehran.
Iran has sent several different signals to the Russian plan ranging from not satisfactory to feasible as a supplementary plan, but has refrained so far from giving a clear reply.
Iran and Russia 'have agreed to increase the number of partners in the project,' Mottaki said, but gave no details on the possible partners.
China and South Africa, two of Iran's close political allies, are considered potential partners of the Russian plan, which is hoped to bring the dispute over Iran's controversial nuclear programmes out of the current dead-end.
Speaking in a joint press conference with his Bahraini counterpart Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmad bin Mohamed al-Khalifeh, Mottaki said he has also assured Iran's Arab neighbours of the solely peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear programme.
Mottaki said that although Iran was still pursuing the course of negotiations over the nuclear dispute - 'both with Russia and the European Union trio (Britain, France and Germany)' - he once again warned against Iran's referral to the UN Security Council by the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
'Regardless of whether the February 2 IAEA board meeting just informed or referred the Iranian case to the Security Council, in both cases Iran would immediately implement the nuclear bill approved by the parliament,' Mottaki warned.
According to the parliamentary bill from last November, the Iranian government is obliged to suspend all cooperation with the IAEA, including IAEA inspections and other issues related to the IAEA Additional Protocol, if the Iran case was sent to the UN Security Council.
In the meantime, the commander of the para-military Revolutionary Guards warned that his forces were in possession of the medium-range Shahab-3 missile whose 2000 kilometre range could reach any part of Israel.
'We do not want to attack any country, but if attacked, we would take all possible defensive measures, including use of our missiles,' General Yahya Rahim Safavi told state news network IRIB in a renewed Iranian warning to hit Israel if its nuclear sites were attacked.

Tammy Bruce again: Tick, Tick, Tick Goes Iran As the Mad Mullahs and the Terrorist President of Iran continue to enrich uranium, give the finger to the world, as they plan to return Earth to the year 600, the EU Three--Britain, france and Germany, have agreed to start "negotiating" again with these genocidal fanatics. What does this accomplish? The same thing "negotiating" with Hitler accomplished--it gives the madman more time to build and plan for world war.

This is priceless. They talk about giving 'serious consideration' to the Russian plan (a country which, of course, has no animosity toward Jews, hasn't returned to totalitarianism, and isn't at all a threat to the West, of couse not), while continuing their own enrichment at 3 different sites in Iran.

Oh, well, this makes things all better. Neither China nor the increasingly freakish South African government would ever, ever, conspire with Iran against the West or Israel. Absolutely not!
All of this is absurd. It proves singularly not only the impotence of the UN, but its existence actually is dangerous and helps to facilitate the madness of the world.
And Europe, well, they have trading and money on their mind, which frankly eclipses concern about Jews or Israel. No European country has exactly as stellar record historically when it comes to treatment and defense of Jews.
For any of you who believe that "negotiations" with totalitarian monsters actually succeed in bringing "peace in our time," consider these statements from Chamberlain speeches about the importance of giving Czech land to Hitler and all if will accomplish. negotiating, appeasing, talk, talk, talk. Also, read this article for background about the negotiations at Munich 1938 to give the Sudetenland to Hitler in an effort to appease him.
Then sit back and listen for the tick, tick, tick of a nuclear Iran, and the world will see once again what comes of negotiating with fascist Jew-hating totalitarians.
Britain, Germany warn Iran could still face sanctions Ooh! Iran must be shaking in its collective Jackboot!
Iran says Russian uranium-enrichment plan insufficient but negotiable Talk, talk, talk. Tick, tick, tick.
