Hi everyone!
I am so sorry for not being around much lately. Things have been really busy.
But in the midst of all the madness, I do have some great news that I am very proud to share with you.
First, I have been very busy at work on the Community Outreach Commitee. Every year we use money from contributions made throughout the year by the employees to buy Thanksgiving dinner for the needy in our area. We buy turkeys and all the dressings to make up a box of goods and then provide them to both organizations and individuals alike.
This year we are providing 300 baskets, which is a record year for this sort of thing. It breaks last year's record of 253.
A number of these baskets are set to go to City Mission, an organization that provides food and shelter for the homeless; SafeNet, of which I am a volunteer, an organization that provides shelter and counseling to victims of Domestic Violence; International Community, a place that provides assistance to people coming to the USA from foreign countries and have language and cultural barriers (lots of people from Iraq here this year); and Community Shelter, another outreach organization that provides food and shelter to needy families.
We also make baskets for individuals at the request of our employees. So, if an employee turns in a name of someone in their family or a friend that they know are struggling to make ends meet, we make up a basket for them.
This is something I feel very strongly about, and am quite fulfilled for having taken part in it. Yesterday we spent the entire afternoon filling empty banana boxes with all the dry goods for the baskets. Next we will fill those baskets with the turkeys and eggs and some produce just before delivering. It's a lot of work and takes up a lot of time....but it's the right thing to do, and I'm very proud to be a part of it. I feel very blessed to be able to help others in some small way.
I also have to brag about my son Josiah! ;D This year he auditioned for one of the lead roles in the school play "A Seusical Musical". Last year, while in third grade he took part in the school play for the very first time, and got a very small part in it. Well, the older kids in the school's theatre company just love Josiah, and really pushed him to try out this year for a larger role. So, he went right for the top character of Jo Jo. He practiced and practiced, and worked so hard for this.....and it paid off. Last weekend he auditioned, and we just learned that he got the part! ;D ;D ;D
This will be the first year in his school that a fourth grader has landed a lead role in the school play. I am so proud of my little man!
As if that isn't enough, my son also just brought home his first report card of the year, and I am proud to tell you that he got straight A's! ;D ;D This little guy takes his studies seriously, and it is so rewarding to see that his hard work has translated into this.
Just so you all know, even in the midst of all this busyness, I still continue to hold you near and dear to my heart, and a day does not go by that you are not in my prayers.
I'll catch up on all of your songs very soon, Leona (I promise). And, I am also writing a review of Bruce Springsteen's "Magic" that I am sure you will all enjoy. So, you'll be seeing more of me here shortly.
