Hello guys, I'm sure this is the right section to post such a thread, but I didn't know where to ask you... And I thought we could use this discussion to all the questions we have, if you all agree...
Well, some years ago, I don't know exactly when, the press said that Lara was ill, and stayed away from the stage for a period... Do you know what she had?
Then...I've read a thread where you were saying Lara once "offended" Canada, the U.S., France and Belgium. What did she say? And why?

Hi Ely,
Yes, Lara was ill and from what I had read on other forums, articles, etc., it was an illness common to women. What was the illness? I don't think it ever was disclosed to the media.
In response to offending Canada, Belgium and the USA....Paula would probably know more about that. The only way I can think where Lara offended Canada was by not staying here longer and promoting her first English album so that her amazing talent could of been more appreciated by the masses! Other than that, I can't really help you.

Lara mentioned what she had in an article later on. I think it was in an article from Quebec when she went there to promote "9". I'll see if I can find it later. It might also be in one of David's old weekly reviews.
Paula would know more about what Lara said to offend Canada, Begium and the US, I don't usually keep track of that stuff.

Hi Guys. Laras illness was discussed in an interview not too long ago, I don't remember exactly when but wasn't it early this year? Anyone with better memory out there? If I remember correctly she had adenomas. They are benign tumours growing out of gland tissue. In very rare cases adenomas can develop into cancer so they are to be treated with respect. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AdenomaI had an adenoma removed from the inside of my throat growing out of a lymphatic gland some 30 years ago. Maybe that's why I am what I am today. Crazy, hehe.

In response to the statement about Lara offended the US, France (etc) let me clear up that it was never the people of these countries but rather the government, press and music industry. Perhaps “criticized” would have been a better word.
Lara has had an off and on battle with the French press for years. They have criticized her very unfairly in my opinion. In a recent interview when asked, "When you are in France, you are the typical Frenchwoman"... Lara replied "God help me!" I can't remember the exact details but I believe when Lara bought her house in Canada (the second time) she made a statement to the effect that she would only go back to France kicking and screaming.
In Canada, Lara also had problems with the press. Here is what she said in an interview there:
“PL: So this voice is worth for you also a given moment in your career, your work, a kind of this which you call practically, and this is a very very strong word, 'media lynching'. It is to say that you had the sensation, the certainty that you were attacked, criticized and you said ‘I did not imagine that one could have there such cruetly, such violence.’
LF: Yes it is true because when one has 15 years of Quebec in the body, it is truly that, these people who are of a great gentleness, truly of a great courtesy, who love talent, who love eclecticism, who love this way that one has of projecting oneself with passion, that does not give rise to mockery. One can love or not love, but not loving should not create hatred, cruelty, fury.” “Because one can like or not like an artist, have the absolute right of saying it and what was the most injustice is this cruelty, because you speak of an impression of lynching, it was not an impression, it was a certainty, it is a true product.” I might be wrong but I think some Canadian radio stations boycotted her.
About the US she has said in an interview something to the effect that Americans do not understand Europeans (I think that was who she was referring to) and that Americans have a hard time with them. It's no secret how she feels about the American music industry Sony in particular (by the way I feel the same way too) and the US government (again I am with her there). She also criticized some information given out on American college campuses about sex and love. And then there was “Les Homericains” which I personally did not find offensive but many others did. I realize she was trying to say that other countries have good and evil, not just the US but I think others did not see it that way. As a matter of fact Lara stated that she was tired of Europeans bashing America.
In her first English album EPK video she stated that she was “in a country (Belgium) where it was really difficult to express yourself as an artist where you are 18 years old, you’re a woman and a songwriter something is wrong. You realize you are not in the right place and you move.”
Again most of these are legitimate criticisms. The point I was trying to make was that the French people should not take Lara’s comments to heart, because she is outspoken and does not pick on one group. I love that she is not afraid to speak her mind. Sometimes she just say things the wrong way – a PR nightmare.

Hi guys, thanks a lot for your answers!!! So Lara had an hard time with that illness...was it before "9"? Thank God they were benign. (even for you kalel ) Thanks Paula! I had read many articles about her bad relationship with press, and I'm sure she didn't mean to offend any of the people from France, Canada etc....but I've also read a forum where her fans or just people who used to listen to her music were soo angry for "Les Homéricains"! I don't find it offensive...and I think that a fan should know how open and true Lara is, so... I can't remember, what happened between her and Sony? In the "A Wonderful Life" era I suppose...?

If you go under the album "9" category, there is a topic with the translations for 9 there.
