As the NFL regular season winds down and the playoffs set to begin: How come my team is the only team not making it to the playoffs? My Steelers are out! I'm devastated! Paula has her Patriots to continue cheering on, Leona still has the Colts in the picture, and Rachelle has her Chargers charging ahead. So, what am I to do? I expect all of you to disagree with me when it comes to politics and current events, because that has been the norm since this forum began. But have all of you somehow conspired together to see to it that my beloved Steelers be taken out of the playoff scene as well? Ha ha! What am I to do regarding who to cheer for now? I don't want to upset anyone here by choosing one person's team over another, and to be honest with all of you, I happen to like the Patriots, Colts AND Chargers! I really do not want to root for any of the other playoff-bound teams. For fun, why don't each of you give me your reasons why I should root for either Paula's Patriots, Leona's Colts, or Rachelle's Chargers. It would be very interesting and a lot of fun discussing, don't you agree?

Ok you should root for the Pats because:
5. They are sooooooo cute in their tight pants 4. They are a historical team - Patriots - America's team LOL 3. Tom Brady is cute. - Nice smile 2. Coach B needs to hire a fashion coordinator. I am sick of his grey sweatshirt 1. They play in a very LIBERAL state.

You should cheer for the Colts because:
5. They are now an underdog because they have been playing bad lately (don't you want to cheer for the underdog) 4. You don't want to cheer for the Chargers because they have a bye for the first week (that's one less week to cheer for a team) 3. You don't want to cheer for the Chargers because they have home field advantage through the playoffs and then there won't be any change of scenery. 2. You don't want to cheer for the Patriots because, besides Brady, you don't know any of the offense. 1. Come on, don't you want Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison to win their first Super Bowl.

OK Leona here is my response:
I will give you the underdog thing but the Pats have been playing bad too. We play worse than the Colts and Chargers put together.
Good point about the change of scenery. I have a very short attention span.
The Colts and Chargers both start with a "C" and the Pats is the only one that stands out "P". Nonconformists. I have no idea why I mention that but what the heck.
What you don't know any of the Pat's offense??? Hmmmmmm Neither do I. We traded everyone at the end of last year. Even the kicker Adam. Oh heavy heart.
The response to #1 is - respectfully - NO!!!!!
I think we should all root for the Colts, Chargers and Pat's until they play each other. When that happens we can root for the Steelers.

I will definitely be cheering for the Pats and Colts until they meet and the Chargers unless they play the Pats or the Colts. I will be cheering the Colts all the way. It's no big deal to cheer on either of the other teams because I like both of the teams.

These are all very "sporty" answers! LOL
Okay, so far I have to eliminate the Patriots. Yes, it's true that they are cute in their tights, and Brady gets me every time with that adorable smile (LOL) And you really sold me on the America's team (Patriots!) thing. The Fashion thing about Belicheck.....well, gray suits his personality just fine! (LOL)
Where you convinced me NOT to cheer them on was that they are from a very LIBERAL state! Somehow I think you knew that would get me!

Okay, this is fun! So, now it's down to Leona's Colts and Rachelle's Chargers. I'll give Rachelle an email to come on and state her reasons, and afterwards make my final decision.

Hey!!! Why should you root for the Chargers?!? Well.... 1.Chargers are currently 14-2 and number 1 in AFC West, we won 10 consecutive games in regular season, 8 of which were at home 2.We got LaDainian Tomlinson aka LT, number 1 in the most Touchdowns scored in a single season and currently is the NFL Rushing Champion 1,815 yds, beating Kansas City's Larry Johnson by 26 yds woohoo!!!! 3.Ok, so the Chargers' games are all homegames, but hey who doesn't like sunny days and palm trees and the beach?? Seriously Also I think we do deserve the homegames, we are 14-2...hehe 4. Besides LT, we got Antonio Gates, Philip Rivers, Shawne Merriman, Quentin Jammer, Donnie Edwards and a great coach, Marty Schottenheimer who just recently celebrated his 200th win 5. We beat the franchise's single scoring record with 492 points 6. We haven't been to the Superbowl since 1995 7. One of the Chargers' kicker/punter Mike Scifres lives across the street from me 8. Ok so California is liberal...but San Diego, well is quite conservative. I bet Duncan Hunter roots for the Chargers

Okay! Everyone has posted their reasons why I should cheer their team on, and now it is time for me to make my decision.
Drum roll please.....
1. This is a very difficult decision for me to make because I love all three of you (Paula, Leona and Rachelle) and really want to see your teams do well.
2. I have incredible respect for the New England Patriots for the fact that they have been so competitive for such a long time.
3. Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison are two of the finest players in the sport, and definately among my favorite. Their character on and off the field only enhances my respect for them (of course, I think the same can be said of Tom Brady as well.)
4. Tony Dungy is a class act, and a former Steeler! Wahoo!!
Geez! This is really tough!
I have to go with the San Diego Chargers....for two reasons!
2. Rachelle, you sold me on the fact that Duncan Hunter is probably cheering them on! And the fact that you are telling me that San Diego is quite conservative warms my heart! Ha Ha!
1. ........now I know that this is going to be a controversial reason, and that is why it is my number one!
I am going to cheer for the San Diego Chargers because of the humiliation that Archie and Eli Manning put them through a couple of years ago during the draft! Archie Manning was a good (not great) quarterback on a horrible team. Eli is a good (not great) quarterback on a good team. Neither of them (or anyone for that matter) is bigger than the game. I'm glad that the Chargers have turned out to be as good as they have since (and because of) that incident. For that reason, I am rooting for the Chargers!
That said, this was a lot of fun! And I am wishing all three of you the best of luck in the playoffs!

So Rachelle is the only one to actually give statistics.
Here are my thoughts.
Leona I agree that everyone loves the underdog. If my team is not involved I always root for the underdog. And Leona, doesn't Adam Vinatieri (he's so cute) play for the Colt's now? If so that is a great reason to root for the them.
Rachelle I agree watching the games in sunny southern California would be great. And the Chargers were 14-2. The fact that Mike Scifres lives across the street from you is key. (Is he cute?) I really like the kickers. Adam Vinatieri used to play for the Pats. One year when the Pats were not so hot Adam was the high scorer on the team.
Mark my sympathy for the Steelers. Wasn't it the Steeler quarterback who was in the motorcycle accident (no helmet)? Enough said. I was not happy with your reason for eliminating the Pats. The fact that you think they are cute in their tight pants worries me. And I can't believe that you think that I would bait you. LOL Thanks for starting this discussion. It was a lot of fun.
I have not watched a football game all year. I get too involved and I am afraid of giving myself a heart attack. Anyone one of the three teams deserves to win. So I do hope one of the three does win the superbowl.

YAY MARK!!! I am glad you chose to root for the Chargers!!!! In my opinion, Mike Scifres is ok looking. My brother went trick-o-treating at his house haha. I wish everyone's teams good luck.
