"Here is my heart take what you want 'Cause I have no use for it anyway Well of all the stupid things I've ever said This could be the worst may be the best But those are the breaks These are the bruises And if I can't give myself away I'm the only one who loses And I don't want to lose this
It is the sea that makes the sailor And the land that shapes the sea And I do not know yet what I am made of Or all I may someday be And it is the wood that makes a carpenter It's the very tools of his trade And it is love that makes a lover And a cross that makes a saint
Here is my song listen if you will But I have no heart for it anymore I just have half a mind to cut it loose And if it sails off into the blue Then I'll just let it soar And the sky is better keeping And I won't be any poorer For giving it its freedom And here's one for freedom
It is the sea that makes the sailor And the land that shapes the sea And I do not know yet what I am made of Or all I may someday be It is the wood that makes a carpenter It's the very tools of his trade And it is love that makes a lover And a cross that makes a saint
Well of all the stupid things I've ever said This could be the worst may be the best But those are the breaks"

"Two lonely-eyed boys in a pick-up truck And they're drivin' through the rain and the heat And their skin's so sweaty they both get stuck To the old black vinyl seats And it's Abbott and Costello meet Paul and Silas It's the two of us together and we're puttin' on the mileage
And we both feel lost But I remember what Susan said How love is found in the things we've given up More than in the things that we have kept And ain't it funny what people say And ain't it funny what people write And ain't it funny how it hits you so hard In the middle of the night And if your home is just another place where you're a stranger And far away is just somewhere you've never been I hope that you'll remember I was your friend
Two full grown men in a huddle of kids And they're trying to help them to believe What is too good to be real But is more real than the air they breathe And it's Wally and the Beaver, David and Jonathan It's the Love of Jesus puttin' on flesh and bone
And we both feel lost But I remember what Susan said How love is found in the things we've given up More than in the things that we have kept And ain't it funny what people say And ain't it funny what people write And ain't it funny how it hits you so hard In the middle of the night And I remember what Susan said
And ain't it funny what people say And ain't it funny what people write And ain't it funny how it hits you so hard In the middle of the night And if your home is just another place where you're a stranger And far away is just somewhere you've never been I hope that you'll remember, I was your friend I hope you'll have the strength to just remember I'm still your friend"

Rainy Day People Gordon Lightfoot
Rainy day people always seem to know when it's time to call. Rainy day people don't talk they just listen till they've heard it all. Rainy day lovers don't lie when they tell you they've been down like you. Rainy day people don't mind if you're cryin' a tear or two.
If you get lonely, all you really need is that rainy day love. Rainy day people all know there's no sorrow they can't rise above. Rainy day lovers don't love any others that would not be kind. Rainy day people all know how it hangs on their peace of mind.
Rainy day lovers don't lie when they tell you they've been down there, too. Rainy day people don't mind if you're cryin' a tear or two.
Rainy day people always seem to know when you're feelin' blue In steps and stutters around in the gutters sometimes need one, too. Take it or leave it or try to believe it, if you've been down too long, Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside, they just pass it on.
Rainy day lovers don't hide love inside, they just pass it on

I love "Rainy Day People" but haven't listened to it in a long time. Gordon Lightfoot is also a great storyteller and Canadian. He is very much praised as far as classic Canadian music along with Neil Young, and Bruce Cockburn.

Well, I happen to love Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, and what I know of Bruce Cockburn. I also love Triumph (and Rik Emmitt's solo stuff), April Wine and Bryan Adams. Geez, my parents listened to Anne Murray all the time, so I have a very special place in my heart for Canadian singers/groups!

"Naked To The Eye" - Mary Chapin Carpenter
Been walking these streets, been deciding what's true Been hands in my pockets, coat collar up, thinking `bout you I've been talking to myself, giving fate the third degree I've been eyes on the pavement admitting my part to strangers passing me And I know it isn't fair, but nothing's ever been Hey when you look at me baby, my god how I feel so good again I don't know where I went wrong, but it isn't right to lie Hey when you look at me baby, my hearts wide open, naked to the eye
Now some lovers are apart, but they're never far away I can see her in your eyes, hear her in your voice and I have to turn away Oh what covet is to ache, is what aching is to me For the arms of a man who knows who I am and where I need to be And if I know what I know, then the lonely can't pretend When you look at me baby, my god how I feel so whole again Is there heaven after all, or just this empty space That no amount of time, nor comfort in it's hands can ever help me face Which is worse is yet to come, your rebuff or my resign Hey when you look at me baby, I'm helpless as a child, naked to the eye
It's like a fever and a spell, unbroken by a sigh Oh when you look at me baby I'm going nowhere, just naked to the eye Yeah when you look at me baby, everythings there, naked to the eye Hey when you look at me baby, I haven't got a prayer, naked to the eye

"Objects In The Rearview Mirror May Appear Closer Than They Are" - Meatloaf
The skies were pure and the fields were green And the sun was brighter than it’s ever been When I grew up with my best friend kenny We were close as any brothers that you ever knew It was always summer and the future called We were ready for adventures and we wanted them all And there was so much left to dream and so much time to make it real
But I can still recall the sting of all the tears when he was gone They said he crashed and burned I know I’ll never learn why any boy should die so young We were racing, we were soldiers of fortune We got in trouble but we sure got around There are times I think I see him peeling out of the dark I think he’s right behind me now and he’s gaining ground
But it was long ago and it was far away, oh God it seems so very far And if life is just a highway, then the soul is just a car And objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are And objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are
And when the sun descended and the night arose I heard my father cursing everyone he knows He was dangerous and drunk and defeated And corroded by failure and envy and hate There were endless winters and the dreams would freeze Nowhere to hide and no leaves on the trees
And my father’s eyes were blank as he hit me again and again and again I know I still believe he’d never let me leave, I had to run away alone So many threats and fears, so many wasted years before my life became My own And though the nightmares should be over Some of the terrors are still intact I’ll hear that ugly coarse and violent voice And then he grabs me from behind and then he pulls me back
There was a beauty living on the edge of town And she always put the top up and the hammer down And she taught me everything I’ll ever know About the mystery and the muscle of love The stars would glimmer and the moon would glow I’m in the back seat with my julie like a romeo And the signs along the highway all said, caution! kids at play!
Those were the rights of spring and we did everything There was salvation every night We got our dreams reborn and our upholstery torn But everything we tried was right She used her body just like a bandage She used my body just like a wound I’ll probably never know where she disappeared But I can see her rising up out of the back seat now Just like an angel rising up from a tomb
And objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are And objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are
She used her body just like a bandage She used my body just like a wound I’ll probably never know where she disappeared But I can see her rising up out of the back seat now

"This Used to be My Playground" By Madonna
This used to be my playground This used to be my childhood dream This used to be the place I ran to Whenever I was in need Of a friend Why did it have to end And why do they always say
Don't look back Keep your head held high Don't ask them why Because Life is short And before you know You're feeling old And your heart is breaking Don't hold on to the past Well that's too much to ask
This used to be my playground This used to be my childhood dream This used to be the place I ran to Whenever I was in need Of a friend Why did it have to end And why do they always say
(verses from long & movie version:) Live and learn Well the years they flew And we never knew We were foolish then We would never tire And that little fire Is still alive in me It will never go away Can't say goodbye to yesterday
This used to be my playground This used to be my childhood dream This used to be the place I ran to Whenever I was in need Of a friend Why did it have to end And why do they always say
No regrets But I wish that you Were here with me Well then there's hope yet I can see your face In our secret place You're not just a memory Say goodbye to yesterday Those are words I'll never say
This used to be my playground This used to be our pride and joy This used to be the place we ran to That no one in the world could dare destroy
(verse from single & movie version:) This used to be our playground This used to be our childhood dream This used to be the place we ran to I wish you were standing here with me
(verse from movie version:) This used to be our playground This used to be our great escape This used to be the place we ran to This used to be our secret hiding place
This used to be our playground This used to be our childhood dream This used to be the place we ran to The best things in life are always free Wishing you were here with me

"You Can Still Be Free" By Savage Garden
Cool breeze and autumn leaves Slow motion daylight A lone pair of watchful eyes Oversee the living Feel the presence all around A tortured soul A wound unhealing No regrets or promises The past is gone But you can still be free If time will set you free
Time now to spread your wings To take to flight The life endeavour Aim for the burning sun You'll be trapped inside But you can still be free If time will set you free But it's a long long way to go
Keep moving way up high You see the light It shines forever Sail through the crimson skies The purest light The light that sets you free If time will set you free Sail through the wind and rain tonight You're free to fly tonight And you can still be free And going higher than mountain tops And go high the wind don't stop And go high Free to fly tonight Free to fly tonight

"When the Lights Go Down" By Faith Hill
When the lights go down He'll be filling a pan with the broom in his hand In some dive across town He'll be wiping the bar and mopping the floor Countin’ his tips and locking the doors Wrestling the devil that tells him to pour another round When the lights go down
She'll be callin’ her friends from her Mercedes Benz But it's too late now They were there for the fame, the flash, and the thrill The drop of the name, the parties, the pills As another star falls from the Hollywood hills without a sound
When the lights go down And there's nothing left to be When the lights go down And the truth is all you see When you feel that hole inside your soul You wonder what you're made of well, we all find out When the lights go down
When the lights go down At the end of the day when this game that I play has gone another round As I lay there alone in this big empty bed With nothing but thoughts of you in my head I think of the things that I wish I had said. When you were still around.
When the lights go down, yeah And there's nothing left to be When the lights go down And the truth is all you see And I wonder if all my life's about the sum Of all my fears and all my doubts Yeah, when the lights go down.
When the lights go down, ooh And there's nothing left to be When the light go down, yeah And the truth is all you see When you feel that hole inside your soul You wonder what you’re made of Well we all find out When the lights go down
Ooh, when the lights go down.

"Some People" By LeAnn Rimes
Isn't it a gamble Layin' your heart out on the floor Nothin' short of a miracle When you find the one you're looking for It's another kind of trouble trying to hang on to who you are When all you wanna do is lose yourself in someone else's arms Isn't it a wonder (that) we got this far
Some people aren't lucky like us Some people they just give up When the hard times fall The thrill of it all is gone Leaves you in a cloud of dust It's sad to think that some won't find it And others won't recognize it even when it comes We're all at the mercy of the will of love Some people yeah Some people aren't lucky like us
Two lonely souls that just stumbled into fate Look how much we've been given babe In spite of all of our mistakes And I will never forget I've been blessed with the gift of lovin' you And when the going aint easy babe A little faith will pull us through Thank God we have each other we can hang on to
Some people aren't lucky like us Some people they just give up When the hard times fall The thrill of it all is gone Leaves you in a cloud of dust It's sad to think that some won't find it And others won't recognize it even when it comes We're all at the mercy of the will of love Some people yeah Some people aren't lucky like us
Bridge To have someone you can laugh with Someone you can cry with Tell all your secrets to To have someone who won't judge you Someone who just loves you No matter what, they stand beside you
Some people aren't lucky like us Some people they just give up When the hard times fall The thrill of it all is gone Leaves you in a cloud of dust It's sad to think that some won't find it And others won't recognize it even when it comes We're all at the mercy of the will of love Some people yeah Some people aren't lucky like us

"The Weight of Love" By LeAnn Rimes
Accept me for who I am That I'm only human And there are more important things Then what we fight about We won't always see eye to eye We say hurtful things, sometimes And it gets hard when you love someone so much
[Chorus] Everybody's got highs, and lows It's alright Its the weight of love Highs and lows, it's alright Oh, It's the weight of love
Remember our first kiss And how we melted in our seats There will never be a January As warm in Tennessee It was an angel in the night Nothing's ever felt so right And even the stars over our backyard Don't shine sometimes
[repeat chorus] Everybody's got highs, and lows It's alright Its the weight of love Highs and lows, it's alright Oh, It's the weight of love
We will grow old together Even for worse or better Nothing will ever keep us apart
[repeat chorus] Everybody's got highs, and lows It's alright Its the weight of love Highs and lows, it's alright Oh, It's the weight of love
