" We are not pro-life simply because we are warding off death. We are pro-life to the extent that we are men and women for others, all others; to the extent that no human flesh is a stranger to us; to the extent that we can touch the hand of another in love; to the extent that for us there are no "others" " -by Brennan Manning, from his book, "The Ragamuffin Gospel"

This is one of my favorite quotes and one that I try to live by. I highly recommend the book, "The Ragamuffin Gospel" by Brennan Manning, from where I pulled it from. The chapter that includes this quote is much more expansive on the topic, and one that I believe in strongly, as well as hold very close to my heart.

It is a beautiful quote. I can understand it that in a way there are no strangers just people we know better than others. Thanks for sharing.

What I get from this quote is that we make strangers of "others" when we look at people according to our differences. Such as: He's black, or she's poor, or they are Muslims, or he's French, or Catholic, or Protestant, conservative, liberal.....a thousand reasons to draw a line in the ground and seperate one another. But all the while God is pushing towards "tearing down the walls between us, building up the love." It strikes as kind of odd that so many who claim a pro-life position will fight so valiantly for an unborn child, but at the same time will verbally rip a person to shreads with absolutely no regard for that person's feelings over a simple disagreement. True Pro-Life means valuing and respecting life....all of it, all of the time. From the moment of conception to their very last breath.
