The big news this week is that Lara announced the completion of a new project: she is releasing a book! She left the following post on her FB site:
----------------------------
Since my earliest childhood, I have been fortunate to experience the gift of transmission constantly and almost in spite of myself. My grandmother, my aunts and my mother told me every day how to take care of others, combining their simple gestures of love with the preparation of meals. Eating at my parents' house, Pierre and Luisa, was like sitting with your buttocks in the snow, mulled wine in hand, protected by a unique sun and warmed by a home-made brazier. No one identified with anything, but everyone was happy. I, late in the night, full, and lying in the small bedroom of our 700 square feet, could hear them. In the wee hours, they were still rearranging the world, and preparing me for the great journey that was to be my life. I will never forget those moments... Throughout my countless tribulations and moves, I have reproduced these gestures of love and this unusual lifestyle, through the table, holding my own revolutions there. But this time, I was inspired by all the cultures, all the countries I have crossed and to which I felt the need to belong. Here is a tour of "my world", in recipes that bring providence and in funny stories, never told before.
Let's go to the table.
Lara
---------------------------
The book is called “Je passe à table”, and it can be ordered at
www.leslibraires.ca/livres/je-passe-a-table-lara-fabian-9782764813485.html?fbclid=IwAR1Xf7ZZhU7mSlLxXskKyvLrz1ndcnC69npWIafdEAjWcSbKNCFraYvyuiw
It costs $34.95 (presumably Canadian dollars), can be pre-ordered now, and according to that website it will be released November 3rd; however, in Lara’s email to those who have signed up for updates from larafabian.com, it makes clear that this release date is for Quebec, while in Europe it will be available in 2022. However, if one pre-orders it, it’s clear that one can order it from Canada from anywhere in the world – while of course paying the appropriate shipping rates, and waiting some 10+ days for delivery.
Here’s the wonderful cover of the book:

and
The book description reads: Everything brings Lara Fabian back to the table. For her, meals symbolize family, friends, comfort, joy and gratitude. In this colorful book, Lara sits at the table: she tells about herself in short chapters where childhood memories, family stories, professional career, slices of life, friendships, anecdotes, confidences and magnificent photos taken from her personal archives. All complemented by recipes related to each story.
So this is more than just a cookbook, it’s more like a family memoir, ‘spiced-up’ with complementary meals. It’s thus seems like a combination of her more personal lyrics and her cooking hobby. In the “Intime” documentary referred to in last week’s News Update, Lara indicated that if she hadn’t been a singer she would love to have been a chef, and would have enjoyed cooking all day. Given that she did become a singer, this is a nod in that other direction as well. Congratulations to her for bringing it to fruition.
In other, less direct news, last week it was announced that Mark Dupré had been named as the new host of next year’s Star Academie. While there were many positive responses to that choice, it was not unanimous, as reported by (https://new.in-24.com/entertainment/News/76681.html). Here’s their comment:
----------------------------------------------------------
Obviously, everyone had their say on the subject. If many people were delighted to find the singer in this new position, several underlined their dissatisfaction.
The main reason that the dissatisfied people point out is the too great presence of Marc Dupré on TV. After being a judge at La Voix for many years, he will soon be seen as an investigating judge in the new show Masked Singers. The public would have hoped for a new face in this role. Patrice Michaud had been a daring attempt, and viewers appreciated it.

We know who will host Star Académie 2022 and fan reactions are mixed
A choice that is a little too predictable?
Star Académie TVA | Facebook
On August 2, the public learned that it is Quebec singer Marc Dupré who will host the 2022 edition of Star Académie and this announcement is not unanimous among fans of the variety show.
Marc is far from being a neophyte when it comes to reality TV, as he produced the musical album of the 2012 vintage and he also occupied one of the coach seats at La Voix during the seasons 1 to 8, except the sixth, as well as the first edition of La Voix Junior. He will now take the place of Patrice Michaud who held the role of host for the return of Star Académie in 2021.
On social networks like Twitter or under the publication announcing the news on the Instagram of Star Académie, a majority of people in comments say they are happy with this decision on the part of the production.
Some even claim that it encourages them to follow the new season.
“Good news. J 'have not embarked on the 1st, but I'm gonna listen on the 2nd season with Marc Dupré."
"Very good choice. We all love Marc Dupré. He will make a very good facilitator."
On the other hand, Internet users admit to being tired of seeing the same faces at the head of programs in this category in Quebec and share their dissatisfaction.
“Too bad!...Lack of originality and audacity!...Good old TV!...Always the same ones!...You would think you were at La voix (Marc Dupre, Lara Fabian, etc.). All that's missing is Eric Lapointe, Alex, Marie-Mai, Pierre Lapointe. There are only those in the UDA!...Money has no smell!...Nothing new on the horizon!”
According to some Quebecers, Marc Dupré does not reach the younger audience and this choice would give an indication of the tone of the whole season.
“It's not this year that TVA [will] get rid of its family image, they have just hired Marc Dupré to host the next season of Star Académie. I guess it's going to be 30 year old songs again too."
---------------------------------------
The reason for noting this is that Lara risks being tarred by the same brush, as hinted at in these articles: too prominent on TV, not appealing to younger viewers, singing/promoting older songs. It’s something she has tried to avoid by adopting a more ‘modern’ sound in her last two albums, but she has not followed through by continuing to promote them in her concerts or on TV. The truth is her fans like her just the way she was, and if she does follow through with a new album of intense ballads, it will be interesting to see what the general population response to it is.

The Lara Fabian multimedia site has been in the process of improving the quality of some of Lara’s old concerts, videos and interviews. Their latest is an interview at Good Day NY, from 2000, during the promo of her first English album, available at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=7waPSfYGcR8
but they’ve done some 40 in the last week alone. See the complete list at
www.youtube.com/user/larafabiannewsbr/videos
The Lara Fabian Netherlands FB site has a “Lara Fabian/Barbra Streisand” photo album, showing either joint photos of them, or photos of Lara singing songs Ms. Streisand has also sung. It can be found at:
www.facebook.com/LaraFabianTheNetherlands/photos/a.342300973981972/342263973985672/
[As a somewhat off-topic notice, there was a recent article about Barbra Streisand in Variety. For those who are interested, it can be found at:
variety.com/2021/music/podcasts/barbra-streisand-release-me-2-kermit-frog-willie-nelson-james-brolin-1235035038/]
It would appear that Lara has been able to complete her book project without her vocal issues and the time they might require getting in the way. Hopefully she can also go/be on vacation and enjoy herself. Hope that’s true for all of you, as well.
