Lara was featured in a photograph by Bert Exertier sporting the new glasses she picked up last week, at
www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=223094442956258&set=a.178602537405449
and the caption, “Summer can begin: @larafabianofficial has their new @baralunettes glasses and orange cones have invaded the city! 🙂 • always a pleasure to have Lara back ❤️ • thanks to @juniorbombardier and @royturner_com for the trust 🙏🏻”
This is an appropriate item to begin the News Update, for summer is indeed effectively back, for Lara and many others, and one characteristic of summer is a shortage of news items. Therefore, fan sites are looking around for items to write about. A particularly creative one comes from the ‘larafabian connecting people’ site; celebrating “World Day for Healthy Digestion” they added a page of ‘cooking with Lara’ recipes, available at

For those who are always looking for English translations of Lara interviews, there is one for her “La vie est belle” interview last year, available at

About this time of year we’ve often looked at the number of FB followers that Lara has relative to some other female French singers. The numbers are shown below; also listed is their year of birth, under the assumption that younger singers and their fans pay more attention to social media.
2017 2018 2019 2021
Shy’m (1985) 1,681,028 1,575,730. 1,535,837. 1,586,787
Jenifer (1982) 1,231,486 1,191,074 1,182,745. 1,314,849
Zaz (1980) 1,218,804 1,328,429 1,374,951. 1,393,351
Lara (1970) 1,167,860 1,224,372 1,230,875 1,533,697
Alizee (1984) 1,037,273 1,060,289 1,063,379 1,228,973
Mylene Farmer (1961) 838,074 823,073 814,684 796,000
Amel Bent (1985) 1,577,089 1,543,987 1,980,351
Isabelle Boulay (1972) 220,789 199,038
In no way is this a true estimate of popularity, especially for French performers, but it is interesting that over the past several years, despite the pandemic, Lara has gained more FB followers than any of the other performers except Amel Bent – who is 15 years younger. Being on the various TV shows has undoubtedly helped (and helped Amel Bent as well), along with perhaps the ‘Lara’ documentary, as her new albums have not sold well. If Lara is concerned with continued relevance, she should factor that into her decision as to whether to continue on the Star Academie.
In a ‘flash from the past’, the ‘Lara Fabian the Netherlands’ FB site reminded us of Lara’s song “Danse”, and when, during the tour for Le Secret, she was accompanied by a ballet dancer, which one can see at

Most likely we will never hear this song again live, like so much of Lara’s repertoire which got one chance when she was touring for that album, never to appear on her setlist again. At all her concerts the greatest fan reaction is always for her older songs, and Lara accedes to their wishes. In the documentary ‘Lara’, she indicated she sees herself, going forward, giving concerts maybe 15 days a year, in 6 or 7 cities, so as to spend more time with her family. If this does indeed become the case, there’s even less chance for innovation or new songs during her concerts, which will make promoting and selling new albums even harder – and this goes for the new French album, with more intense ballads, that Lara has mentioned as her next big project. Lara may become dependent on TV shows, in one form or another, to keep herself relevant.
Speaking of which, Jacob Roberge, who you may remember as Lara’s favorite on the Star Academie, proposed to his wife-to-be in a field of blossoming apple trees (https://showbizz.net/stars/jacob-de-star-academie-a-fait-la-grande-demande-a-son-amoureuse-les-photos-sont-magnifiques); picture available here! :
Not everyone has a photographer available for such an occasion…
As for the somewhat more relevant interesting photo(s) of the week:
The dog days of summer are not yet here, but that didn’t stop Lara from posting this picture of Kayla on her Instagram account,
with an accompanying “good weekend” wish. As one of the fans writing in put it, when “mama changes her glasses, everyone adopts a ‘cool’ look”.
From the ‘larafabianlive’ Instagram site,
A wonderful clip of Lara singing “I Guess I Loved You”, which, like so many other songs of hers we haven’t heard much of in the last few years, from the ‘larafabianthevoice’ Instagram site,
And from the Lara Fabian America FB site, an appropriate summer-ish photo of Lara by the sea

As we know, Lara has often traveled to Sicily during the summer months, and one can speculate as to whether she intends to do that this year. In the ‘Lara’ documentary she indicated she no longer has direct family there, although Gabriel does, and she considers them 'hers' as well. She’s even bought a small house there. The current situation is that new Covid-tested flight routes from Rome, Milan, Naples and Venice for travel to and from Canada began on May 16th – with testing before departure and on arrival in Italy required, also on departure from Italy. Thus it would appear she can go, if so desired. Meanwhile, stay safe everybody, as things continue to open up.
