Lara began the New Year with a generalized wish to her fans, a picture of her in appropriate head regalia for the holiday,
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803/3453714414670031/?type=3&theater
and the caption, “Happy new year !! 💫
I wish you ... health and happiness ... many blessings for you ... 🙏💕💋❤️
Love ... 💋”
[interestingly, in English].
1200 fans responded in kind, and it was liked by 10,000 on her Facebook page – and 15,000 on her Instagram page, where she also put it. The numbers would argue that she should do joint postings more often, rather than mostly Instagram as has been happening lately.
Unfortunately, the positive sentiments were soon followed by a picture and sensibility completely opposite in nature,

(with 10,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook and 11,000 on Instagram, although ‘likes’ in this case really means appreciating Lara’s highlighting the dire situation).
Outside of these posts, the big news, of course, is what is coming up this week. On Wednesday, Lara’s 50 World Tour resumes in Roubaix, France, and Thursday, Lara’s birthday, she will be on stage in Brussels to celebrate this 50th anniversary of her appearing in the world. While Lara continually says “it’s just a number”, her highlighting it in the country of her birth belies that sentiment. It should be a highly celebratory affair – hopefully there will be some video record made of it, if not for us for Lara herself. It will be interesting to see if the setlist is any different, or the patter, since Lara’s “story” is well-known to this audience.
Then over the weekend she’ll have two more French concerts, Saturday night in Metz, and Sunday night in Châlons-En-Champagne. And Lara completes this segment of her tour by hopping over to Romania on the 14th at Cluj-Napoca. The tour then takes two weeks off, returning at the beginning of February in Greece, followed by the make-up concert in Bucharest, and then seven more concerts in France. By then we’ll get a good reading as to what the francophone audience thinks of it.
In-between those tour segments Lara’s other main job comes to the fore: the premiere of “The Voice – la plus belle voix” on January 18th. A promo video about “The Voice re-inventing itself”, with Lara acting “enthusiastically”, can be seen at
www.facebook.com/the.voice.tf1/videos/470308137215251/
We’ll find out how different it is from La Voix, both in terms of the judge’s (and Lara’s) behavior and the quality of the candidates. Lara comments about the differences in the article below.

Lara Fabian and Marc Lavoine in The Voice
The Diva and the Romantic
For the return of “The Voice : la plus belle voix” very soon on TF1, interview of Lara Fabian and Marc Lavoine, the “new ones” of season 9 coaches at the side of Pascal Obispo and Amel Bent.
Exit Julien Clerc, Soprano, Jenifer and Mika. This year the production has an all new team of coaches. But in contrast to Pascal Obispo, coach of season 7, and Amel Bent, coming from “The Voice Kids”, Lara Fabian and Marc Lavoine have never participated on the reality show on TF1.
After refusing many times, you have finally accepted to be a coach on The Voice. For what reason?
LF: I refused previously for I was on tour in the Countries to the East. In the meantime, I was a coach for two years in La Voix in Quebec where I now live. This year I have been able to do The Voice in France for I am on tour in Europe.
Marc Lavoine (ML): It was proposed to me the first year but I did not feel legitimate. Since, I have written a book, a scenario…I’m starting to have an overview of the profession. I also said to myself that I have some things to learn from these young talents.
How did you experience the blind auditions
LF: I was pleasantly surprised. This year there was a big return of talents with vocal densities. The voice is put forward. I noticed that in France there is a little more English music than in Quebec. There, the production has no right to offer more than 40%.
ML: One has the impression of being in an arena and the people come to present us fragments of their lives. There are some youths who have voices much older than their physique and who bear witness to a certain experience. I think that some have 40 years while they are only 18 years old. It is truly surprising.
What type of voice makes you turn around?
LF: A voice must tell us something. Someone who has four octaves but who does not embody his text or the words of an artist, I don't care for.
ML: I do not know very much…It is very mysterious. There are two or three people who turned me. What pleases me, is to understand the journey behind a voice.
What type of coach are you?
LF: Demanding but benevolent. During blind auditions, I like to understand who I have in front of me. I am very calm, posed, attentive and gentle. In return, during my coaching, I will totally reveal myself. You will see, there are times when I will be very spontaneous and inhabited.
ML: Our responsibility is to say things frankly and truthfully. We are not at Oui-Oui. The inspiration is very nice, but without work nothing can happen.
Do you already know each other?
ML: I have had the chance of singing with Lara at the Casino de Paris.
LF: Like for Pascal or Amel, with Marc we have discovered a true affection. It’s why I have the sense that the program is going to be exceptional. Marc is someone whom I love. He has no fear of showing his fragility. It’s good to see artists who are not there to cover themselves up. We are a great team.
What do your children think of your participation in the program?
LF: My daughter Lou is happy for me. She has a vocal talent, she sings very well, but she totally bangs her had against it (laughs). She is of the genre who says to me: “Oh no, mother, you’re not going to ask me to sing?”
ML: One of my daughters makes fun of me: “So you didn’t want to do The Voice and now you do it?” I asked one of my other children who inspires me musically to give me ideas for my talents. And then, I have a 33 year old son who does hip hop in the United States and who was delighted.
Lara, despite your 20 million albums sold and an international career, the French critics haven’t been tender with you…
LF: I have suffered a lot from it but today, I have no bitterness or sadness. One can’t be loved by everybody. My voice has changed. On getting older, it is enriched with mezzo colors, more velvety. I have the luck of today being seated on a red chair. After thirty years of a career, I am still here!
-----------------------------------
Yes, now back in France, Lara is back “in the big leagues” and can expect all sorts of challenging questions. We’ll see whether this latest incarnation of her, which will be quite visible to all who watch the program, goes over well with ‘her critics’.
Lara was also on the cover of “Nous Deux”

Lara will be a guest on the show ‘Diversion’ on TF1, on January 24th, here's the promo picture:
www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=Diversion%20TF1&epa=SEARCH_BOX
‘Diversion’ is "a French magic television show broadcast since February 3, 2017 in the first part of the evening on the TF1 channel presented by Arthur." [Most magicians indicate that ‘diversion’ is the key to magic tricks]. We’ll see what part Lara gets to play in the festivities (usually guests appear as “the straight man”).
Lara was on the show “Vous etes formidable” on France 3, and in what was termed an ‘unusual’ interview, she was given choices in various categories:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvWzZcVJ2W0
For example, she chose the restaurant “Baraque a Frites” over “3 Etoile”, i.e., she chose a fast food restaurant. The most interesting question for the audience here related to Lara’s choice of Jaques Brel, that gave her a chance to sing a little of “Voir un ami pleurer”. One of the commenters noted (unhappily) that Lara was speaking with Quebecois inflections.
This is just the beginning – with Lara back in France, and in such a public position on TF1’s big show - one can expect many, many media appearances, just like it used to be when Lara lived nearby full-time. In another such event, Lara gave a long interview to TV Grand Chaines – there are several videos on youtube reviewing parts of it (e.g., www.youtube.com/watch?v=09RpW43XKE0; www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgyEdftKARI). Basically, Lara discusses her career, and refers how she was hurt by the “media bashing” that she received. Included in that was the persistent rumor that she and Celine Dion were rivals. Lara said “how can it be that someone who inspired me could make me suffer?” She indicated it was just another thing the media used to target her, noting that she is not the only person to be have been so treated, the list is long. She said now she’s in a much more peaceful state, she’s married, with a child, and has a magical seat for the music of “The Voice”.
It was inevitable that Lara’s long history with the press would arise once more now that she’s “back”; Lara apparently concluded the subject with a quote from Betty Davis: “It seems that I am not loved by everyone thanks to God, I would have taken umbrage.”
Concerning an event that originate last year, the celebration of Igor Krutoi’s 65th birthday last November was shown over New Year’s on Russian TV and so we now have some excellent videos of it, linked to below:
