Lara finished her U.S. tour this past week, first in Chicago then San Jose and finally last night in Los Angeles. The Chicago show had more spoken English than the one in New York, and a much smaller audience. A review of it was provided by Pam, quoted below (with permission):
-----------------------------------------
Here are my final thoughts on Lara's concert last night in Chicago. I was totally charmed by it. I think the minimalist aspect of it worked completely. I applaud her for the concept and execution. Her voice is her forte. Why clutter the stage with much else? Her background musicians enhanced without overshadowing. Her outfits we're simple and classy. She told her story by the decade and without all the silly statements we so often find in print interviews. Her sense of humor stood out finally for me, in ENGLISH! I loved her story about her mom singing to her and then years later she sang to her own daughter until, "Mom you gave me a headache."
The music needs no review other than to say she was spot on in every respect. Some of her classics we're modernized to add new dimensions. Some were done with original force and drama.
The audience was small and focused mostly on the main floor. This gave it a more intimate feel. I think the promoters pulled the unsold $69 balcony seats off the market about a week before the show and dropped main floor prices down to $59 - $79 for all but the first few rows, center. Even though the Ticketmaster website showed no available seats upstairs, 15 minutes before curtain it was 70% empty.
I hope she will consider smaller venues in the future. The show in its current form could not have been expensive to produce. Staff was small. There was no orchestra or even a band, just a musician with electronics and it totally worked. The singers had only one change of costumes. There was no set, save for some bar stools, a chair and a small table. The videos on the backdrop didn't distract. Lighting enhanced the mood and tempo. I can see them traveling the world with it in just a few packing crates.
My only complaint and it's a big one is the lack of advertising and promotion. I could not help thinking about how many people could have been sitting in that theatre last night enjoying an excellent show, if only they had known about it. I felt guilty enjoying such an embarrassment of riches. I wish I could talk to her to get some idea of where her head is on that subject.
I went there last night expecting to be disappointed after the wonderful Camouflage concert but I was left with a completely opposite response. I left happy! Bravo to the Diva. :-)
----------------------------------------
Thanks to Pam for that comprehensive assessment. She later indicated that the setist included one more English song than in N.Y. – Chameleon – bringing to three the number performed.
After that concert, Lara left the following picture and remarks on her Instagram site:
"What a pleasure to be on stage ... The # 50WorldTour started .. New York, Chicago you were fabulous ... San Jose, Los Angeles ... I'm coming ... I love you. ..“
Interesting news before the L.A. concert was posted by Lara on her FB page, with the following picture:

We’ll see whether videos appear from L.A….It would be nice, if Lou actually is there, for Lara to sing ‘Bambina’; one can question why, with all the nods she gives in her show to the other important people in her life, Lou hasn’t gotten a segment and song for herself, if not that one, then “Lou” from the Mademoiselle Zhivago album.
Pictures of Lara, primarily from the N.Y concert, are readily available on various fan sites, e.g.,

We’ll have a better accounting when all the reports are in, but it wouldn’t appear as if Lara has done all that well in the U.S. from a ticket sales standpoint, similar to the situation last year with the Camouflage tour. The reality is, English speaking people do not know her, and she makes little effort to change that. No articles in major newspapers, no local interviews to drum up business – not the way people normally go about raising interest in a concert unless you’re a really big name and don’t have to worry about such details. That may be true for Lara in some places, but it certainly isn’t in the States. One wonders why she even bothers to give the concerts if they’re not promoted whole-heartedly, as Pam noted in her review at the beginning of this Update. [To be sure, I’m happy she does, but it is a puzzlement… perhaps it looks good on her resume]. Next she will be off to Russia where she will likely have more commercial success.
In other news, Adisq in Canada has voting for the artist and song of the year. An article about this can be found at:

Lara will be one of the guests of the show Le Grand Cactus on RTBF this Thursday at 8:35 pm on LaDeux. She will talk about her new role as coach in “The Voice: la plus belle voix”, and will be joined by Pablo Obispo. A brief article can be found at:

Ironically, just when Lara is being honored in Canada, she has lined up work mostly outside the country.
Interesting photo(s) of the week: Lara has collected official photos from her tour, and they’re available at:

At this point Lara is off until October 5th, the first of several concerts in Russia. It will be interesting to see if the setlist is any different as she tours around. She may also find time to meet with Igor Krutoy, who, if he hasn’t already seen it, would probably enjoy the homage she pays to him during the show. Since they are apparently working on another project, she may have some time for that as well. The 50 World Tour has started – creative, intelligent, simple, polished, and seemingly easy to transport. Onward, into the world…
