Lara went to Europe last week for as she called it, a ‘promo-marathon' of ‘Papillon’. But before getting to her activities there, we can finish with her events in Quebec that preceded her departure.
A highlight was Lara’s performance of “Par Amour” at the Telethon “operation enfant soleil”, the video available at
www.facebook.com/larafabiancoeurdelumiere/videos/839200959796526/
She both looked and sounded impressive, and sincere.
To give the event more meaning for her audience, Lara posted the following picture
with the caption, “memory of a beautiful telethon with Mia... a wonderful little singer... #Operationenfantsoleil
Dress : Sarah Pacini”
Genevieve, who was also there, put a beautiful photo of herself with Lara on her Instagram site, at
(These two could easily be photos of the week)!
Still in the Quebec charity mode, there was an article in the Journal of Montreal concerning Lara and ‘Project Leski’, which helps people who are victims of crime or suffer from mental challenges (https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2019/06/09/la-fondation-leski-lara-fabian-touchee-en-plein-cur?fbclid=IwAR2Swb6x3UYYnvLMUwVGOpQcX-s5xzh7xVmMP9kTFyCipbLWxPMEPBXouDs). The Leski Foundation: Lara Fabian touched in her whole heart
Public figures are constantly solicited to marry a particular cause. Fewer are those who offer their services before they are asked anything. Lara Fabian enters this last category.
It all happened last October at the Brossard Hot Dog Café, where Lara Fabian, her husband Gabriel Di Giorgio, and their dog Kayla decided to stop by chance. Once in the place, a young woman approaches the singer, reveals how much her mother has loved her for a very long time, and so on.
The conversation takes an unexpected turn when Lara Fabian asks her interlocutor what she does in life. "I am fighting for a foundation to exist," says Marie-Eve Girard, mentioning in passing that she runs the Leski Foundation, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help victims of crime as well as people with mental health problems or a particular form of autism.
"She explains to me that she is fighting to allow people who, like her, suffer from anxiety, to be accompanied by something punctual, like a service animal," says Lara Fabian in an interview with the Journal .
The speech of Marie-Eve Girard also touches Gabriel Di Giorgio, especially when she indicates that an animal saved her life. "Without animals, I would be incomplete," says the singer-songwriter's companion. "I would be extremely disoriented in society."
Moved by everything she hears, Lara Fabian decides to get involved and offer her services as a spokesperson. "While Marie-Eve was talking to me, I heard my boyfriend's story," she says. "He lost an animal three years ago. It was very, very difficult. When Kayla came into our life, I saw him change completely."
A Difference
Early in her career, Lara Fabian soon realized that she could play an important social role, not only by using her celebrity to highlight legitimate causes, but by addressing sensitive topics in her songs. She remembers in particular a testimony received after the release of Pure (1996), on which La Différence, a ballad in which she spoke of homosexuality, was featured .
"One day a young boy came to me and said, ‘If you did not write La Difference, I would be dead today’. It made me realize that we can put our image and our art at the service of something greater than us."
"My life is giving to the next one," says the one who was recently in Cannes to sing at Eva Longoria's Global Gift Initiative Gala. "My life it is to contribute in one way or another. My life is doing something tomorrow that could make a small difference."
In a message sent to the Journal, Leski's president, Marie-Eve Girard, shares her joy at being able to count on Lara Fabian to showcase her young foundation.
"Lara is an extremely sensitive and generous woman," she wrote. “Thanks to her notoriety, she is able to give a voice to our clientele, which they are often simply incapable of. "
"A real miracle"
Lara Fabian and Gabriel Di Giorgio's dog, Kayla, has undergone rigorous training to obtain her Leski assistance animal certification. Like all other dogs who have successfully passed the tests, he could accompany a caregiver in different situations, such as supporting a person during his trial against his attacker or accompanying a victim to medical appointments.
"What I like is how concrete it is," says Fabian. "When Marie-Eve brings one of the dogs to spend a day with a little girl who has been raped, needs comfort and can not talk about what happened because she does not have the words to express it, the dog feels this non-verbal language and heals the child in the space of a few hours. It's a real miracle."
The Leski Foundation is holding its first fundraising evening on Friday, June 14 at Marché Bonsecours in Montreal. The details are at the foundationleski.com

It includes the appearances of Monia Chokri (a Quebec actress), shown in the photo with Lara below along with Simon-Olivier Fecteau (a Quebec comedian and director),
www.facebook.com/larafabianweb/photos/a.247913198557556/2841233692558814/?type=3&theater
On the program, Lara talked about her time at Cannes for the Global Gift Foundation, as well as the “Imaginary Couples” photos, with Eva Longoria. She also discussed her 50 World tour, along with the classic songs that will be included. And her desire to transmit what she has learned in her career, to touch others. She ended by ‘signing off’ in Italian, at the request of the host.
Then it was onto France. Lara introduced it with a picture of herself with Stéphane Bern at
and the caption, “I'm back in France for a little promo marathon that starts with the lovely Stéphane Bern in her show A La Bonne Heure! So happy... #papillon #newalbum #promopapillon
The video of the show, on RTL, is actually on youtube, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDmy0wWkaaE&t=1s
As expected, its focus in the first part was on Papillon, and the show included brief cuts from some of the songs from the album, with Lara giving brief comments about them: Papillon; Je suis a toi; Alien; Superman; and Par amour. [“Alien”, IMHO, should be the next single from the album, a perfect ‘summer’ song]. ‘Par amour’ was played the longest, as the ‘last released single’ and Lara’s favorite. [It’s showcased numerous times in this News Update]. Her past work also got some brief airplay, and comments from Lara: Je t’aime, Tu es mon autre, J’y crois encore, La difference and I Will Love Again. They then got around to her upcoming tour, mentioning various international locales in addition to France. All in all, a very nice promotion for the album, which the host called ‘super’, and 'very good'.
Lara was also on the show with Arthur called “Diversion”, and she posted some photos, at
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/pcb.2843868125654666/2843862888988523/?type=3&theater
along with the caption, “What a beautiful show today animated by Arthur! A real pleasure to have shared this stage with Slimane, VITAA, Bruno Guillon and Camille Lou... Congratulations to the mentalists and magicians for their tours... #diversion #papillon #newalbum #promopapillon
Then Lara was on ‘Chante France’ radio, and met with fans there. There is a full video of Lara singing “Je t’aime” at
www.facebook.com/LaraFabianBienPlusQuunePassionCorseReunion/videos/407209746575635/
and a brief video of her singing “Par amour”, at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/videos/606362509852111/
Continuing to communicate with her ‘public’, Lara noted her weekend residence,
about which she said, “good weekend to all... for my part a little moment of morning relaxation at Hotel les Jardins du Faubourg Paris... I love this new Parisian address... I feel like home ... Little Haven of peace in the heart of the capital.” The Lara Fabian Web FB site had a picture from inside this five star hotel,
www.facebook.com/larafabianweb/photos/a.247913198557556/2857402060941977/?type=3&theater
[the picture IS worth a thousand words, while a night’s stay is probably worth a similar amount of euros!].
But it was not just relaxation; Lara did some actual new work with Moh Denebi in her room at the hotel, as shown in these photos
www.facebook.com/larafabiancoeurdelumiere/photos/pcb.376612719643027/376612579643041/?type=3&theater
www.facebook.com/larafabiancoeurdelumiere/photos/pcb.376612719643027/376612609643038/?type=3&theater
as well as with her singing teacher, Pierre Yves Duchesne
www.facebook.com/557858170902651/photos/pcb.2358008154220968/2357984557556661/?type=3&theater
The caption indicates that they are all working on some beautiful projects together, and in fact Lara was in the process of recording a new song. Perhaps this will be a ‘non-album’ release, which Lara mentioned her future might contain.
Today Lara was in the north of France, on France 3 Picardie for yet another promotion of the album and upcoming tour, with video available at
www.facebook.com/LaraFabianBienPlusQuunePassionCorseReunion/photos/a.501228263404688/1129362510591257/?type=3&theater
Interestingly, she was asked why she released a French language album (!) (after her first English album in decades). This station is also accessible in Belgium, so Lara could cover both countries at once. And Lara actually advertised this appearance on her FB page beforehand (not true for most of the others in France), perhaps for that reason. Some pictures of the interview can be found at
www.facebook.com/larafabiantonautre/photos/pcb.2224284527625199/2224283624291956/?type=3&theater
In the midst of this busy schedule, Lara took the time to appear at a private gala at the Palais Namaskar in Marrakesh (Morocco). The ‘Lara Fabian est ton autre’ FB site provided a short montage of Lara singing her ‘hits’ (courtesy of the Palais Namaskar and Thierry Martino),
www.facebook.com/larafabiantonautre/videos/2362073974071003/
Meanwhile, Lara’s team released many updates to her ’50 World Tour’, which is now, on her FB ‘Events’ page, up to 39 concerts (including Budapest, Belgrade and Tel Aviv). Also recently added is a third performance in Paris, set for February 5th at the Olympia. This is in addition to the shows on March 24th and 25th that are listed (at least according to Lara’s team) as sold out (there was a report that some seats are still available for them).
Last, but not least for Lara, her father celebrated his birthday this past week, his first without Lara’s mother being alive. Perhaps not coincidental that she was in Europe at this time.
Interesting photo(s) of the week: Lara at the Telethon, from the Lara Fabian web site,

And a show she’s already recorded on Europe 1 with Laurence Canevet will be broadcast this coming Saturday
Following these various media appearances, Lara will be back in Quebec next week, for an event in support of the Leski Foundation on June 14th. Then towards the end of the month, she’ll be joining a number of other Quebec performers in a concert to provide funds for those affected by recent floods. With her residence far removed, France provides a (populated) change of pace for her, though Quebec probably now feels like home.
