La Voix dominates the news of the past week for Lara, as it has previously and will likely do so for the next few. In the quarter-finals of the program, each judge chooses three performers to ‘battle’ against one another (out of their team of six, so there are two quarter final shows). In the voting, the judge and the audience each get 50% weight, so their two scores are added together.
Going in, here’s what Lara said about her team:
---------------------------------------------------------
Lara Fabian considers herself lucky and can not say enough good things about her team.
"They are beautiful artists. They are the ones who choose us for blind auditions, we never know who is behind the voice we hear, we just turn around because there is something that touches us. And, in the end, we are lucky to have a team that is generally quite eclectic, as it is. I'm really happy because it brings a lot of work to the table as a coach."
Her team
Christian Marc Gendron: "He is extremely put together, and he has a lot to offer with all he is able to master, both music and singing. It's his wealth that defines it. "
Mory Hatem: "He’s a boy touched by grace, who's doing incredible performances that he's absolutely not aware of. He gives divine music moments."
Marianne Mathieu: "She is one of the greatest voices I've met, surrounded by a coat of incredible fragility. This is a total paradox in relation to her vocal force. She offers highly sensitive performance."
Samantha Neves: "I wanted to have an artist who had this dimension. She is defined by youth and talent."
Geneviève Jodoin: "Genevieve is someone who touches me a lot. Her sensitivity is very close to mine as an artist. I have a lot of things in common with her."
Frédérique Germain: "She’s a surprise, an artist whose animal instinct prevails over everything. She is able to ride any obstacle with a grace and determination that impresses me."

So then, on to the first quarter-final show. Here’s a review [note for all who can’t see the show, one can at least hear all of these people, since they are all featured on the album “La Voix 2019”, which is available now at
musicor.lnk.to/LaVoix2019!Lara-Fabian?fbclid=IwAR1ozPTj9pdYM66kNemjscVFP-cpRteDwsevCkuHHwNzP3JVTHmCqdlUT7E ]
Lara chose, from her six member team, the first three ‘combatants’:
*Marianne Mathieu who sang (translated) “I Left the Island”. She has an amazing voice, and the audience was in hushed silence throughout. In commenting on her performance, Lara said she has a great voice, and it was a great song; and that her own parents had ‘left the island’ (in Lara’s mother’s case, it was Sicily). Eric, in commenting on the performance, said it was a good thing she ‘left the island’ because it was necessary for her to go on tour!
*Samantha Neves who sang ‘Impossible Dream”. Lara said she was not only a great singer, but she was – and will be – a superstar; and that she was already, as the lyric of the song indicates, “following her star”. Marc said of her that there is “something in your voice that catches us, takes us, will not let us go”.
*Christian Marc Gendron, who sang “I’m Still Standing”, in a rousing performance, accompanied himself on the piano in virtuosity style.
Here was the scoring, first Lara’s and then the audience, out of 100 in each case:
Marianne (28; 15; total 43); Samantha ((40; 45, total 85); Christian Marc (32; 40; 72).
As one can see, the singer with the best voice got the least votes – even from Lara. It’s clear that Lara has bought into the philosophy that “singers of voice” are passé, and the best (and perhaps most attractive) performers are to be favored. This might well be true from a practical standpoint; it’s just too bad that the show is misleadingly called ‘The Voice”.
The host noted that “Samantha, you were from the first edition of La Voix, I like it, remember it. There is not an armchair that had turned for you. And tonight, seven years later, the woman you've become is back to La Voix. Four chairs have turned for you, and you're going to the semifinals.” And in truth she has an appealing voice and is an appealing, attractive performer.
Eric chose for his first three ‘combatants”:
*Jacques Comeau, who sang “Always On My Mind”. He is clearly such a loving person, and did a great job with the song, which fit him to a tee.
*Justin Legacé who sang (in translation) “I Have a Bad Character”. And he lived up to the description by grabbing Eric by the collar and throwing him back down into his chair (play-acting, obviously). It was a convincing performance!
*Ariana Drapeau who sang (in translation) “When We Have Only Love”. She did a decent job, with her somewhat raucous voice (which should not have gotten her to this level).
The scores, first Eric and then the audience);
Jacques (35; 83; total 118; Justin (32,10, total 42); Ariane (33, 7, total 40).
Obviously the audience preferred Jacques, not only for his singing but for his personality. You may remember that his daughter tried out first, and no one picked her, and then he came on and only Eric ‘turned around’ for him. The host explained that actually, the daughter was the one the program called to try out, and he just came to keep her company – they then saw him, and asked him to try out as well. Good call! One also has to say that his daughter’s great love for him, apparent at his every appearance and once again on this show, certainly doesn’t hurt in winning favor from the audience.
Marc’s three combatants were:
*Ferline Regis who did an amazing job on the song “J’ai besoin d’un ami”. She has a gospel-like voice, deeply resonant, the best of the three singers.
*Melissa Ouimet who gave a rocking performance, and is quite attractive.
*Rafaelle Roy, who gave a solid performance, and has a fine voice.
The scores:
Ferline (30; 14; total 44); Melissa (30, 29, total 59); and Rafaelle (40, 57, total 97).
Once again the best true singer lost, though Rafaelle was quite impressive; the host also said she is the most humble of any of the singers he’s met. That apparently also came through to the audience.
And finally, the three singers Alex chose:
*Briana Victoria who did a fine job.
*Joel Brassard, who “showed his humanity” but never should have reached this point in the first place.
*Vincent Choinard, who played the piano, and is clearly quite a showman.
The scores:
Briana (32,23, total 53); Joel (32, 7, total 39); and Vincent (36, 70, total 106).
The ‘showman’ won out with an o.k. performance; one might guess he was helped by Lara’s enthusiastic endorsement – she said after his performance (and before anyone voted) that she hoped he would continue.
**As can be seen, in each case the ‘judge’ and the audience voted for the same lead candidate, although generally by widely different margins. One might say the judges are tapped in to what the audience likes.
**Most of the ‘losing’ candidates seemed quite happy for having had this experience, and sincerely congratulated the winners. One possible exception is Briana Victoria, who did not look happy at losing, and vowed to continue on in this career.
**Marc and his three candidates got to do a number at the end, while waiting for the final scores. That suggests Lara and her candidates might well do something of that nature in a forthcoming show.
**With a few exceptions, the performances presented were outstanding – as was promised by the host, who had seen the rehearsals.
**At the very end of the show, when the judges and candidates were talking among themselves, Lara went around to the audience on all sides thanking them for their presence.
To honor her two quarter-finalists who did not advance, Lara posted the following picture,
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803/2718006911574122/?type=3&theater
with the caption, “Congratulations to Marianne Mathieu and Christian Marc Gendron for your journey, and your talent... even if the adventure of "La Voix" ended yesterday... I'm convinced that your musical road is still long, you are beautiful artists... I'm happy with our meeting... and congrats again! #equipelara #Lavoix
In a more general comment to her fans, Lara also posted this picture,

with the caption, “Good morning to all... thank you for always being so many to follow me... I'm so happy...
Don't hesitate to join me also on Instagram... on my official account @larafabianofficial...
I'm more active and above all I'll give you very soon some exclusive surprises to share with you... see you soon... love.
Lara”
So following that lead, on her Instagram page Lara had several additional entries. First,
with the caption, "What a great pleasure to have found you yesterday @patrickbrueloff for the first live @lavoixtva
It was for me a joy to share this set in your company ... your kindness is matched only by your talent ... What a wonderful performer and artist you are .... a thousand thanks for your generosity and very quickly ... Lara 💋✌🏼 # LaVoix #PatrickBruel"
Patrick Bruel did an opening number with the quarterfinalists; the video is listed as being at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbQkHvXTb3w
but it is not available outside of Canada.
Also from Lara’s Instagram site,
with the caption, “Always a joy to be with Igor Krutoy…perhaps the pleasure of new projects…”
In that regard, the following is from the 'Lara Fabian Connecting People' site:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
While Dimash diligently sings the cult “Love of tired swans”, Lara is preparing a new project with Igor Krutoy!
Already in November, the new single “Lara Fabian as Lara Fabian” will be released as a rerun of another cult song, of Krutoy. They also promise a video: Lara will get the role of the main maid in the mansion of Igor Yakovlevich.
Look forward to! Put the classes!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
The ‘cult song’ comment was not immediately clarified, though the idea of a new single is intriguing.
[The comment relating to Dimash can be followed up at dimashthesinger.com/dimash-sings-love-of-tired-swans/].
And speaking of that website, they made available Lara’s “team song” from La Voix noted in the last News Update, ‘Je te le donne’. It can be seen at:

[note – it requires ‘Flash Player’ to be activated in your browser to be visible].
And then again from her Instagram site as well as her Facebook site: Lara apparently had a photoshoot in the Four Seasons of Montreal. She left a picture at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803/2727841290590684/?type=3&theater
with the caption, “My photoshoot is over! It was awesome! The Montreal four seasons is spectacular!!!
Thanks to Sylvain, Marco Marsolais, David D'Amours, Randy and Fernanda!!!
Thank you also to the wonderful Italian Bijouterie for its generosity!"
Concerning ‘Papillon’, in Belgium it has dropped 10 spots to #34, after 10 weeks on the chart. In France, it has dropped 15 spots, to #79; without Lara being there, it doesn’t appear to have continual staying power. Whereas in Quebec it is still at #7, for obvious reasons.
Lara is starting to do promotions for her upcoming “50 World Tour”. First a short video about her U. S. venues (thanks to the 'Lara Fabian web' site for the link):

Interview with FTI Agency, the agency that handles Lara tours in the United States.
Question: Lara, you have a broad English repertoire in your lineup on this tour. Is this something unusual for you?
Lara: English is something I've been doing for a long time in my career as well as songs in French, Italian and English. Many languages so it's not unusual for me to sing in English.
Q: In today's world, you have to be really strong to survive. How do you stay so feminine when you have to be so strong?
L: I think that to survive being so emotional and sensitive, you need to have a great entourage and a wonderful family, amazing people around you who can protect you and love you for who you are. And I think that being yourself will protect you.

Horia Brenciu will play with Lara Fabian at the Palace Hall
By Alina Ghimus onApril 22, 2019 to 3:19 p.m.
Lara Fabian returns to Bucharest in November for two concerts at the 50 World Tour tournament. Horia Brenciu will be on the stage with the artist.
The tournament "50 World Tour" returns the artist to our country, and it will be held on 18 and 19 November 2019 at the Palace Hall in Bucharest. The event will mark Lara Fabian's 50th anniversary, as well as over 30 years of career. Lara Fabian will also promote her new album "Papillon" , the 14th studio album and the 10th French album in the tournament .
Horia Brenciu joins Lara Fabian in a surprise duet in the two concerts. The two artists will make an incredible show, and Horia Brenciu's energy will make the whole Palace Hall sound. The duet is a special one, and the compatibility of the two has a particular vibration.
"It will be one of the most surprising live duets ever seen at the Palace Hall! I really appreciate Horia Brenciu, he is an artist with such a beautiful and positive energy and I am convinced that the Romanian audience will receive the news of this duet exceptionally. I still want from high school to have a chance to work for a concert with Horia Brenciu who my math teacher said is considered one of the best artists, Lara Fabian is a complex artist and I think their very different styles will make history with this eclectic duet, "said Mihaela Gurău, partner organizer of the two concerts.
Lara Fabian, or Lara Crokaert as her real name, was born in Etterbeek (Brussels - Belgium) and began composing music in 1978 after receiving a piano from her parents. In 1986 she recorded her first single, "L'Aziza est en pleurs", and has already won the first prize at Le Tremplin de Bruxelles . Two years later she became internationally known as "Croire" with which she represented Luxembourg at Eurovision.
The debut album was released in 1991, bringing her the Felix awards and a two-year tournament across Canada. Her second album, "Carpe Diem", appeared three years later and brought her Felix and Juno three times.
In 1996, she became a Canadian citizen and was chosen by Walt Disney studios to lend her voice to Esmeralda for the production of Notre Dame de Paris. On November 6, 2015, she released a new album titled " Ma vie dans la tienne ", promoted during the tour of Europe in 2016.
In over 30 years of career, Lara Fabian has released 14 studio albums and 4 live albums.
Horia Brenciu is an innate entertainer who over time has conquered the audience as a vocal soloist, actor or host of some TV shows. Together with the HB Orchestra, one of the most complex orchestras in the Romanian showbiz, the charismatic artist will stage an unusual show, ranging from sentimental ballads to the rhythmic refreshes released by rock'n'roll legends, but will do equally feeling with their own songs, including the very popular hits "Do My Heart" and "Hello".
In 2002, Horia Brenciu founded the HB Orchestra with which he performed outstanding concerts throughout the country. The first album came to light under the name "35" and gave the world the famous songs like "Funky Party", "Who are you?", "September, Monday" or "Prolog". Followed by "37" and "40+".

The second quarter-final took place this past Sunday, so there are just two more weeks of shows left for Lara. After that, as we found out last week, Lara will be performing at a hotel in Turkey; hopefully, she’ll have time for a vacation (as well as to possibly further process her mother’s passing). She’ll have earned it.
(For personal reasons, next week’s News Update will be posted a day earlier, on Monday).
