Well, I am actually happy to see that the Steelers (my team) lost today! Yep, that's right. I'm glad! When the game started and I saw that they were starting Tommy Maddox over Charlie Batch, I became upset with the decision. Charlie Batch practiced all week for the game, because they wanted to rest Ben Rothlisberger another week after hurting himself on Monday night's game. Tommy Maddox is in fact the second stringer, but he too was hurt until it was revealed that the injury was not as severe as originally thought. So, Charlie Batch was the person to get the ball. That is until the revelation about Tommy Maddox's condition. Turns out he would have served the team better with a clipboard in hand on the sidelines, because he cost them the game with three interceptions....one of them a touchdown scoring pick to end the game. The reason I wanted Charlie Batch to start is because he is so much more mobile and it really changes the way a defense has to play against him. Anyway, they lost, and as a fan I am kind of glad. Let's say I think they deserve it!

I hate it when teams do things like that. I find it's hard to cheer for a team who makes stupid decisions like that.

Check out these facts and you will probably be upset as well. Charlie Batch started his career with the Detroit Lions five years ago. In his very first season, he was being compared to Peyton Manning as the next superstar QBs. Manning had a 3717 yard season, a ton of TDs but also had something like 28 interceptions in his first year. Batch had about 1000 less yards, not as many TDs but only six interceptions. That got him a bigger contract by ten million dollars. In his second year, he took the pathetic Lions to the playoffs. Things are looking up, right? Wrong! Because of salary cap, the Lions decided to make a cost cutting move and due to Batch's big salary he became expendable. Well, he has never started since. Crappy, huh?

That's horrible. I hope he gets a chance somewhere else. If not he always can play in the CFL. A lot of players go in between the two leagues, and get noticed when they do well in the CFL. Doug Flutie, and Jeff Garcia are two of the recent ones who have succeeded doing that.

Well, I think he liked getting picked up by the Steelers last year because he is actually from Pittsburgh! I just wish he would get a chance to play occassionally at times like today.

Well, if he wants to play in Pittsburgh, it would be nice if they gave him that chance once in a while. Especially on days like today. I think it's really not a nice situation.

The reason is because as good a coach as Bill Cowher is, he can be very bullheaded at times. Frustratingly so! Also, this is all just my opinion. Maybe on the practice field they saw something that I don't get to see. But I think it is ironic that Maddox performed poorly and I predicted that he would. He isn't that bad, but just not mobile. It hurts you in the end, as it did today.
