Good morning!
I'm off work today. Six of us are heading to Pittsburgh for the Home Opener! Pirates vrs. Cubs! Go Buccos!
Every year now for the past five years five or six of us take the day off to go to the Pirate's Home Opener. It's a blast!
We have yet to see the Pirates win so I'm hoping this is the year!
Last year a couple from South Africa got hired with us. Earlier in the year I was talking to the husband and he was saying how much he loved America. One of the things he wanted to do was see a Major League Baseball game. Well, I kept that in mind when we purchased tickets for this game and bought one for him, too.
I'm really excited because this will be his very first ballgame. From what everyone is telling me he is thrilled as well! I hope today can be something very special for him.
He keeps insisting on paying for his ticket, but I won't let him. I told him that he will have a really good time and there will be plenty to spend his money on once he is there...just let me do this for him.
I told the guys to bring their long stem matches because if the Pirates actually win we should burn down the city in a riot like you see at those international soccer matches!
Take me out to the ballgame!

Well, I didn't get to burn the city down in a riot but...Wow, did we have a blast! So much so, that I wound up calling off work today to recuperate from all the fun!
We left Erie at 8:00 in the morning and arrived in Pittsburgh at 10:30. That gave us plenty of time to tailgate because the game did not start until 1:35. We sat around the van and ate and drank beers for a while and then walked around the stadium to enjoy all the people and atmosphere leading up to the game. Pittsburgh is such a beautiful city with its three rivers and skyline, so we walked over Roberto Clemente Bridge to take it all in. Absolutely breath taking, let me tell you!
Then we went into the stadium and walked all around. It's noted as being perhaps the most beautiful of all the stadiums in the Major Leagues, so I wanted to be sure that Lance (from South Africa) didn't miss a thing.
He had a super time of it! That alone made it all worth it for me. I'm just hoping his wife isn't going to be mad at me for all the beers we drank! LOL
The Pirates in typical fashion lost again, but we could not have asked for a better game. In 12 innings, they lost 10-8, so at least there was a lot of action.
My voice is shot from cheering so much!
I'll see if anyone has any good pictures to share and if they do I will post them here.
