i just saw on tv yesterday that Anne Murray is doing a Duets cd to be released in November. she'll be singing with other Canadian singers, including Isabelle Boulay (in french). that duet alone would make me buy it :-)
it should be good.

This is great news Lib, at least for me. In my way of looking the pop music world, Anne Murry is one of the most influential personages there is - even though she was considered a country crossover artist. She actually is the woman who paved the way for other Canadian international success stories such as Céline Dion, Sarah McLachlan and Shania Twain. And in doing so can be considered a pacesetter for what we hear as popular music today - at least on this side of the big pond. I am glad that today’s pop artist, such as Isabelle Boulay, are still cognoscente of there musical roots.
My two thumbs are way up for Anne still being in the mix of things, for Isabelle’s joining in and for you Lib. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I’ll be checking out this album myself when it comes out.

I always learn so much about the music world from Jim, and really appreciate it! I knew none of the stuff that he just shared here in his last post. Thank you so much for that, Jim!
While I no nothing of the history behind Anne's influence on other artists, I do know this; Anne Murray filled the rooms of my house growing up.
Now, as a young kid growing up, I was into listening to Bruce Springsteen, Kansas, Triumph, Journey, Foreigner.....you get the picture. But my mom had her music that she liked also, and so I grew up listening to what she had on as well. Anne Murray was one of my mom's favorites, and so we listened to her a lot!
I'm glad that Anne Murray had such an influence on artists such as Sarah McLachlan and others because they are great artists too. But Anne Murray also had a tremendous influence on my sister and me growing up listening to her albums as well. And that is something that stays with you forever.
Anne Murray would easily be included on the soundtrack of my life.
I look forward to this album, and I wish Anne all the success in the world with it!

i got Anne Murray's new cd last week and i've been listening to it every weekend. i must say, i really like it. she sings some of her most popular songs with women you don't usually associate with her kind of music, but it works. i like all the duets but the most surprising was the one with Sarah Brightman. she sounded very different and sang "Snowbird" very well, i was actually impressed. My only beef is that Anne's duet with Isabelle was too simple and too short. "Si jamais je te revoir (If ever i see you again)" did not showcase their full potential together, although it did show how similar their voices are.
overall, i would recommend this cd to anyone who likes melodic songs to relax with. fans of Anne won't be disappointed with the renditions as they stuck to the original melodies and no fancy schmancy added. a great collection :-)
