If you don’t mind, I would like to share a little insider’s knowledge of the kind of musician Lara needs to start associating once Little Lara is able to travel. That is, if she truly wants to enter the serious professional musical worlds of stage and jazz. She definitely has the talent and ability to rule in those genres - if she wants to that is.
Okay, for my money this is the guy. This is the guy Lara need to team up with for the next ten years or so. He can take her to where ever she desires to go in the next level up of the entertainment world. I feel their personal temperaments are complimentary and he seems to be excellent at musically bringing out the very best in a vocalist. And I would say that the Princesses prowess as a singer/songwriter would inspire Mr. Oddo to achieve artistic levels of his own that he never thought possible.
John Oddo is a graduate of The Eastman School of Music in Jazz Studies; a three year, three album alumni of Woody Hermann’s legendary Thundering Herd Jazz Band and the only musical director, pianist, and arranger Rosemary Clooney (now there was a class act if there ever was one) for the last eighteen years of her career. The last I heard, he is now filling those same duties for Linda Eder – gorgeous in her own right I must say. Although, not quite the technical singer as our Princess but Ms. Eder can still ‘belt’ with the best of them - and a professional through and through.
If anyone is interested; at the end of this post is a link to a page on Ms. Eder’s website about John and contains more detailed information and photos. It also ends with an interview segment where John shares a little insight on what life is like for the musicians behind the star and the responsibilities of a musical conductor. Naturally, since it is Linda’s website, the interview ended up mostly talking about Ms. Eder. But, I found that part interesting as well.
So… now you know. I doubt the Princess will ever come to Texas, but if someone living anywhere else gets the chance to see her; try to slip her a note simply saying, “John Oddo, check him out. It will be well worth the effort.”
No Wait… I know. I still have a few contacts in the pit orchestra of some of the major musical theatres around. Maybe I need to work my end and slip John a note saying, “Lara Fabian, check her out. She is your ticket to the legendary status you deserve.” Yeah! That’s it. That’s what I need to do.
But then, now that I think about it, musical conductors never pay any attention to trombone players. That’s probably why they always put us in the back row of the orchestra. If you don’t believe me, the next time you go to a symphony concert or stage musical just look for yourself and see where the trombones are sitting.
Oh well, check out John Oddo. I think you will enjoy seeing a little of what life is like for those of us on stage.
