Lara's week was bookended by interviews in three different languages.
It started with her arrival in Moscow on Sunday, when she went straight from the airport to the Russian radio station "Silver Rain". The purpose seemed to be primarily to advertise her Monday concert, but was also in response to what appears to be a fairly well-developed fan base she now has in that country. The interview was conducted both in Russian and for Lara's sake in English (English, rather than French, presumably because it was noted on the show that they have an extensive listenership in English speaking countries). As far as I know, it was the first major interview Lara has given in English in a number of years, but her wit, intelligence, grace and resolve survived intact! Ironic that to hear Lara speak in English one has to wait until she goes to Russia. It also appears that she is learning Russian, and like all her other languages, when she spoke it, she spoke fast! Further on the language front, as noted on the program, she has been learning Portuguese, but finds it more difficult than the other languages.
Pictures taken by fans outside the station are available on the web, and in addition one can see a few pictures of Lara inside the station on their official site www.silver.ru/ (in the upper right hand corner click on the second line, which mentions Lara's name). The interview itself is available both from that site and elsewhere on the web (where it runs a bit longer); it should not be missed.
The concert itself turned out to be a duplicate of the one at the Casino de Paris for AMTM last September, with songs in English, French, Italian and Spanish - and the same songs. The Fan review, translated in an earlier post, pretty much said it all - an emotional evening, typical in a way for Lara, but not so typical in Russia - with Lara's masterly singing. It also appeared to be a very worthwhile evening for the fans from Quebec who won the radio contest prize of coming to Russia to see her - they were the ones to whom she dedicated 'Pas sans toi" (appropriately enough).
On Thursday, Lara joined Gigi d'Alessio on "LA MÉTHODE CAUET". They spoke of their meeting and their duet, with Lara acting as a translator for Gigi in Italian. Then Lara played a game with Cauet, whose goal was to see if she could keep singing when various planned interruptions were introduced. Lara survived several, but not the appearance of a big snake, to which she showed genuine alarm! Numerous times we have seen Lara undergo these sorts of 'comedy routines' which border on the sadistic; at the very least (and maybe it is the very least), it would keep one from getting pompous!
Apparently a lot of Lara and Gigi's appearance on the show was actually cut, compared with what people who attended the screening reported. In particular, their duo at the end was not shown, and someone even mentioned that Lara had put the snake around her own shoulders. It was good entertainment none-the-less, and it's not impossible that these other segments will eventually turn up on Cauet's shows - he still appears to work very well with her. The video is available numerous places on the web, and it too should not be missed.
It was mentioned on the program that Gigi's album, now being released in France, is number one in Italy. A promo for that album shown in France (and which was used on Cauet's show) features the clip from 'Un Coeur Blesse' which we know is not on his Italian album. As noted previously, either this is misleading, or the cut of 'Un Cuore Malato' has been changed for the French album release. The single itself is presumably out, but people who have looked have not actually seen it in the stores. It has been heard by some on the radio, but not on some of the big stations. Time will tell what happens to it in France. One station commented that there will also be a Spanish language version of it.
In other news, a date for Lara's concert in Algiers was announced on some websites as June 14. This will be her first full concert in that country, and it appears as if it may well be similar to the Russian concert, in 4 languages with just Pierre Grimard for accompaniment ("piano-voice"). A rumor is going around that she will actually be doing a small tour this summer with Pierre. We know the concert in Turkey is coming soon, and could also likely be of the same type. The reception she received in Portugal may have convinced her that if she is going to non-French speaking countries, she can't continue with a basically French repertoire, although Algeria is one where she could probably get away with it. If it occurs, it is good preparation for a multi-lingual album, and may serve to help make that real.
For this coming week, speculation has arisen that she may appear next Friday on "Hits&Co" on TF1, from 1:30 to 2:00 AM, with an interview and perhaps the new video clip. According to larafabian.net, Lara will be on "Fan de" on TF6 Saturday at 11:30 in a report entitled "Lara Fabian makes her big return". Further downstream, they also indicate that she will be shown on "The Best of "DES ENFANTS DE LA TÉLÉ" on June 16th, where they will replay her imitation of a lobster. Lara is given as one of the participants in the June 21 NRJ Music Tour in Paris, to be shown on France 2. None of these events is listed on the official site, nor is the June 14 concert in Algeria. We have learned that the way to treat this is: if it appears on the official site, it very likely will happen. If it doesn't appear on the site, it may happen anyway, but one can't count on it.
