Welcome to the board, cppgenius! I agree with you about leaving Lara's personal life alone. I think it's really hard to live your life with other people, who don't really know you, interfering and trying to find out everything about your life. Sometimes I feel I want to know but then I look at it from what I would feel if I was in her position and I wouldn't like it if people kept interfering with my personal life and trying to figure out what was going on.

While at Barnes&Noble today, I came across a new book that is out called "Clemente." Roberto Clemente is (was) a favorite athlete of mine. Soon I will purchase the book as I have great interest in it. But as I was scanning through the pages of the book I noticed that it was about much more than just his baseball statistics and records. It was also about his personal life, and how it has affected generations of people even after his death. I am really looking forward to reading and learning as much as I can about this most remarkable person.
I share all of that because I think it is important to keep it all in perspective. I understand and even agree with both of you with regards to respecting the lives of celebrities. But far too often celebrities thrive on the attention and get lost in all the attention. It has happened to many of the best (Elvis, The Beatles.....all of the greats have in some way, shape or form drowned in the sea of celebrity.) It's well known here that Bruce Springsteen is my favorite artist, and so I have given this very topic a lot of consideration. Bruce's story is a story of having to fight iconic, legendary status to maintain not only his sanity but also to stay true to himself. He won that battle, and deservedly carries the title, "The Boss."
The media have no right to be arrogant like they so often can be. They have no right to gossip and spread rumours about artists as they too often do. But the celebrity makes his/her living selling his/her product, and a lot of the selling goes on through the media. A lot of celebrities have used that media outlet to actually promote themselves for better or for worse.
This is a great discussion, and I hope I'm not coming across as argumentative. I agree with both of you in what I understand you to be saying. But I am only trying to add perspective.

I like there to be a balance. I think if an artist reveals their story by their own choosing it's fine. I just hate it when there is gossip and stories coming out about an artist and they have to defend themselves because people are judging when they didn't want the world/fans to know in the first place. Some stories are inspiring and should be shared but only if the artist is okay with it. I really like it when the artist is in control of their life and what people know about it.

Leona, of everything you say I agree!
On this:
Quote:I really like it when the artist is in control of their life and what people know about it.
That is the responsibility of the artist. It is actually (if you think about it) no different for them as it is for any of us....only magnified. If you want to be in control, then you have to be aggressive about it and indeed be in control. It's called being "true to yourself." I don't buy into the idea that many of these artists "lose" control somehow of their life. In fact, they give it up!

I find there are artists out their (more so with actors and actresses) that have photographers following them everywhere so people can see them eating lunch, going shopping, etc. I don't think this is in the control of the artist. Though I think just because there's people following you I don't think you lose control of your life. You still need to treat people with respect. I think you can (as a celebrity) lose a bit of control of what appears in papers and etc. I think you are in control of your own life but not necessarily of your privacy.

Very much agreed. And thank you
I often have argued that many of these media hounds have very interesting lives of their own, and wouldn't it be quite the story if people were "digging" up stuff on them the way they do to others? Hmmm.....
You are speaking of respect, Leona, and that is something that I cannot argue against. Well put.

This is a splendid forum. I have to compliment the way fans answer each other on this forum. I think the bottom line we are all trying to get to is the fact that you can't seperate the personal life of Lara from her music, because they are integrated into each other. Every fan can see it in the music she writes, she writes abouth her own life experiences, joy, pain, heartbreak, love, and many more. True fans come to love the person she is and not only her music.
I'm honest when I say that I'm dissapointed that things between Lara and JFL did not work out, they made a great couple. But that is out of my point of view and I don't know all the facts why they broke up and that is the part where I feel that the media should report the truth. Of course we all want to know what happened, isn't that true? But Lara took the CONTROL and spoke about it in the open, maybe not all the details but, that was a clever move, because if she is so open about it then there is nothing to gossip about.
If I may use another example. I would certainly have been very dissapointed with Lara if she accepted the role as a prostitute. Why? Because that is not how I see her, and I believe no fan sees Lara that way. We see her as a true woman with integrity, loyal to her fans and loyal to herself. That is the best part of Lara I like the most, her loyalty to her fans, not being what they want her to be, but being the person they fell in love with, being herself. Just as she said on the Baden Baden concert: "If this album weren't self-titled it would have been this, because there is nothing I can do about it, I am, who I am". Consistency is what we want from our favourite artists, we don't wan't our atists to do something out of character, it will spoil their music, because their character is weaved into their music. Many English fans threw away Lara's CD's because of the Les Homericans song. That was only because they didn't understand what Lara was saying. Lara did not act out of character when she wrote this song, this is how we know Lara, she speaks her mind. But if she plays the role of a prostitute, it will be totally out of character, not the Lara we know.
Sorry for drifting away from the topic. I was only trying to illustrate how close Lara's personal life is to her music and how much she opens her personal life to her fans through her music. Her music is the deep dark secrets of her soul. Something that only her fans would understand. That is the beauty of it all. She gives us a glimpse of her deepest secrets through her music, something that the media don't and won't understand. We, as fans, are privileged to have access to her music, we have an advantage above the media, because Lara writes and sings because it is her passion, a passion she shares with all her fans, all around the world.
What a woman, what an artist, truely one of a kind. There can only be one Lara.
Thanks for the warm welcome guys, I like to be a fan of Lara. Lara's fans are one big family and it is great to have everyone share its point of view and talk about this great artist, because you just can't help talking about her. Its great to be part of this form.

I think there is a general agreement here to appreciate people for who they are. When a person makes a post they are sharing something of themselves. In doing so we should appreciate that expression and be very careful to always respect the person. Each of us have a lot to offer the discussion. We all come from different parts of the world, and so our opinions will vary accordingly. But if we are willing to consider the other person no matter how much we may disagree, we just might learn something! I know I have, and I'm very thankful for it!

Ache Beautiful : Thank you for the very warm reception. I have joined several disciussion forums and your reception was very much unexpected- Thank you very much!
I also appreciate the information you shared regarding LARA. I would definitely love for her to release an english album. Second choice would be Italian. Maybe we would get a studio version of "Perdere L'amore".
I know a lot of singers in the US will be releasing albums in the fall. Seems like everyone wants to get high sales in the holiday season. That said, I cannot wait for Lara to have new studio work.
It is unfortunate that her relationships with her collabs in the past ended, but what is special about Lara it is her voice her interpretation that made all their music priceless.
If I had to chose people should write and have produce her work i would want Walter affanasief doing some Ballads with her. I am not sure if they have worked together, but I think it would be instant hit.
Well I will continue checking in for NEWS regarding the music of Lara Fabian.
