This past week featured Lara’s official ‘release’ (né promotion) of the album ‘Papillon’ in Quebec, highlighted by her mini-concert in Montreal; the beginning of her promotion in Europe; the release of the music video for her third single release, "Par Amour"; and her appearance on La Voix. We'll start with the concert in Montreal.
Lara presented 7 songs from the album, which one might then be tempted to characterize as her favorites. Videos are available as linked to below:

Pardonne: www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAHTur1p7V4
Lara was in good voice, and the event was surprisingly quite professional, as she and her team quickly assembled a ‘together-sounding’ group of musicians to play these songs. The lighting was especially noteworthy, again impressive considering the time available for preparation. Everyone can have their own favorite, of course, but to me the outstanding entry was “Je ne t’aime plus”, which IMHO would have made a better ‘third’ single for the album, as it would have reconnected Lara to an audience that appreciates that (historic) aspect of her music. “Alien” would also make a great dance hit, and just might end up being the most popular song on the album. The presentation of the music live also suggests that if Lara had had the time to do her concert tour now, she might have really optimized sales of this album. As it is, waiting another six months, it’s anybody’s guess as to how effective that will be, especially as it will then be compared with her classic songs, the public’s favorites, in those concerts.
There are many pictures available, e.g., a number of wonderful, professional ones are available at:

Lara followed it up with her own photo (taken by Bert Exertier), at

and the caption, “Thank you Montreal for the beautiful welcome of Papillon on stage!”
As can be seen here, and in the videos, Lara’s outfit might be called ‘functional’. In contrast to the sterling outfit she wears on La Voix, this is clearly what she feels most comfortable performing in. One might guess Lara’s point of view is that for these personal promotions, it is the album that she’s promoting, not her appearance. Many performers, concerned with commercial success (the goal of the promotion after all), don’t make that distinction.
A number of publications covered this mini-concert; here are some (translated) reviews:

Launch of Lara Fabian: a beautifully deployed Butterfly
Tonight, in an Imperial Cinema filled with fans, colleagues and journalists, Lara Fabian finally revealed on stage the pieces of Papillon, her fourteenth album which sits at the top of sales in Quebec since its release on February 8th. During this relatively intimate launch, where seven of the eleven pieces of the album were presented, the audience was able to see the vulnerability, the excitement and the recognition that animate the artist even after more than 30 years of career.
Supported by seasoned musicians, the singer-songwriter, all dressed in black, started with the title song with thunderous applause. She could not start with a better song since it really had the feeling that she spread her wings before our eyes. She who confessed to feel at home when she performed in Quebec offered impressive raucousness and her inimitable famous high notes, despite some technical problems with the microphone.
The titles selected not only brilliantly represented the album but also perfectly demonstrated this mix of pop and acoustic ballads that characterizes the Belgian singer. Everything was effectively served by dynamic and colorful lighting games, especially on the dance piece “Alien”, a real earworm dealing with a confused love that seduced the audience.
Carried by her compositions imprinted with truth, the coach of La Voix for a second season left her comfort zone to address the delicate theme of total disenchantment with the poignant “Je ne t’aime plus”, without a doubt the moment vocally and emotionally the most impactful of the evening. In conclusion, Lara Fabian, who will launch the 50 tour in Brussels on the day of her fiftieth birthday (9 January 2020), followed up with her album favorite, “Par amour”, which delicately explores how resilience and love can be stronger than fear.

Lara Fabian Back to the Top
Bruno LaPointe
After more than three decades of career, Lara Fabian still takes nothing for granted. Especially not success. "We always wonder if we will continue to be loved," says the singer humbly. The answer, however, could not be clearer: her most recent offer, Papillon, took off in first place on the charts, when released this month.
Lara Fabian admits it from the outset: she did not expect such a strong departure for this new opus, the fourteenth of her career. And this is not a show. It must be said that her previous album, Camouflage, had not had the expected visibility when it was released in 2017.
This remarkable flight for her Butterfly is all the more significant for the 49-year-old singer.
"This album is the album of my return to Quebec, so when I saw that people had opened their arms to me as big ... I was so happy, I was flying," breathed Lara Fabian.
"100% made in Quebec "
Indeed, the singer recently returned to settle here in Montreal, as she did in the early 1990s. And she is proud to point out that Papillon is an album "100% made in Quebec. From the composition to the recording, through the photos and the filming of the video clips."
She is also convinced that this return to the Belle Province tinted not only the creative process, but also the final product, which arrived in the bins three weeks ago.
"A simple creative bubble is moving, be it in Montreal, Belgium or Italy. But it was much more than that. When I went out for La Voix shoots, or even just go shopping, I met people who said they were happy that I came back to Quebec. So, it is certain that it had a very, very great influence to see that people welcomed me here again, so warmly," confides the singer.
In French
Who says return to Quebec, says return to French. Lara Fabian renews with her native language for these 11 new compositions. And besides the extracts Papillon Je suis a toi, and Par Amour, another title already attracts the attention of the fans of Lara Fabian. Indeed, more than 20 years after having a monster success with the piece Je t'aime, the singer proposes today ... Je ne t’aime plus.
By ear, the relationship between the two songs is obvious. And the principal confirms that they are indeed related, without offering explanations as to what inspired them.
"But of course there is a story that connects them," says the singer, laughing. “Many fans try to understand who I am talking about, but that will remain a mystery. As much as a song is personal, it must also be depersonalized for the sole purpose of being passed on to the next. You can not always tell your story, look at your own belly button. You have to tell stories by immersing yourself in your experience, but by pushing the story further, to the point where you allow someone else to appropriate it," she adds.
Serene fifties
The fans, however, will have to be patient before you can hear parts of Papillon on stage. Taken by the filming of La Voix until next May, Lara Fabian will then go to work for her world tour that will launch in New York in September.
This 50 World Tour, which will take it to 50 cities around the world, will officially launch the festivities of her 50th anniversary.
The singer is particularly serene to the idea of passing the milestone of the fifties on January 9, 2020.
"50 years is only a number, not a state of mind. I feel like a kid. So everything is fine," she says.

Lara Fabian Launches her Album Papillon, a Smooth Performance
Lara Fabian's fourteenth album "Papillon" has been available since February 8th. The album she wrote in the space of a week in the basement of her Montreal home, instantly settled at the top of the French charts. It is to the Imperial that the 'Montrealese' by adoption chose to present her new songs.
Accompanied by three musicians, she began the show by performing the electro-pop title track: Papillon. Always as charismatic, the performer is greeted with sustained applause from the fans invited to the event. Smile to the lips, she will continue with the second extract of the album Je suis à toi, before interpreting, Je ne comprends pas [sic], Pardonne, Animal, Alien, Je ne t’aime plus. It is with her favorite song of the new album and more recent extract, Par amour, that she closes the evening.
Her performance was smooth, her voice poised, even in the most rhythmic songs like Alien. All the songs she performed tonight would have potential for commercial success.
Usually pretty loquacious, tonight, she intervenes little with the spectators. She says that even after thirty years of career, she is always intimidated, every time she goes on stage. At the end of the show, she explains what prompted her to create the song “Je ne t'aime plus”, a way to get rid of her love.
Lighting plays a leading role in this mini-show, the different colors and types of lighting dress up the stage bare of scenery. In addition, they define the atmosphere of each song. At an album launch, lighting is rarely as elaborate.
Lara Fabian is currently coach at La Voix. This fall, she will be touring to celebrate her 50th birthday. It will stop in the United States, Europe and Montreal.

Quite a Month of February Which Ends for Lara
If there is one name that has been on everyone's lips in Quebec in February, it's Lara Fabian's. Release of her new album, her return to his chair of La Voix , her return to the top of French sales as well as a new excerpt that is touring all over Quebec. To finish this month loaded with emotions, the beauty effectuated the launch of ‘Papillon’ February 28.
In lieu of making a complete review, I prefer to offer my top 5 of my favorite songs of the evening:
No 5. Papillon: An eternal chorus that catches our spirit ...
No 4. Par amour: Her favorite transmitted in all authenticity ...
No. 3. Je ne t’aime plus: Nostalgia! We go back to her first successes ...
No 2 . Je suis a toi: An enveloping pop ballad ...
No 1. Alien: a beautiful electro touch that makes us want to dance ...
In short, a beautiful launch for the great lady who radiated happiness on stage. For its part, the audience was hanging on her lips from the first song to the last.

She started by singing a bit of “Dying in L.A.” from Panic! at the Disco (which she’s listening to now), mentioned the medley of her songs done last year on La Voix (her favorite from the show); John Denver’s “Take Me Home Country Roads” (her first song to sing as a child); “Voir un ami pleurer” (the song that makes her cry); again from Panic! at the Disco, “Roaring 20s” (the song that makes her want to dance); mentioned “Chris and the Queens; music from Prince of Tides (as favorite music from the movies); “Le Sud” (music associated with her mother); “Gelato al Cioccolato” (associated with her favorite place); and finally “Par amour” (as her favorite song from the new album).
For the second week in a row, Lara tops the album chart sales in Quebec, as can be seen at:
palmaresadisq.ca/fr/tops-ventes/?fbclid=IwAR1wD3tHKdvNFtuG6mAwVZcdsRcORmiKf9IwCjW8IIVzxQsUog_-vJt8RMc
“Par Amour” is the third single, and yesterday Lara presented the official video for it. That can be found at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjrTd8VeP64
The visuals are broadly consistent with the theme of the song, overcoming challenges for the sake of love. It’s definitely a classy production, and fans writing in expressed their admiration for the emotions implied. And it’s definitely different from the first two releases, giving, as Lara's people said, a different color to the album.
Charts in France had an article about it (http://www.chartsinfrance.net/Lara-Fabian/news-109566.html#oGvOls9qh7OuHrRx.01), translated below:

Clip "For Love": Lara Fabian finds the strength to rise
Lara Fabian breaks all the obstacles "For love" in her new video, responsible for defending her new album "Papillon". To discover on Pure Charts!
Since February 8, Lara Fabian is back in the bins with "Papillon", a new album in French that comes out a year and a half only after "Camouflage", destined for the international market. A short period of time, accomplished by the unprecedented process put in place for its design: Lara Fabian recorded it in just 11 days, in the basement of her home in Montreal! "It's here that everything started, the symbolism is strong" explains the Canadian-Belgian artist, who has surrounded herself with producer Moh Denebi to give birth to 11 titles "modern and timeless" evoking of course the vertigo of love, her favorite theme. "You have to tell stories by immersing yourself in your experience, but by pushing the story further, to the point where you allow someone else to appropriate it," she told TVA News .
"I know us stronger"
Introduced by the luminous "Papillon", an "ode to lightness and gratitude", this 14th studio album is built like a key to open the doors of the intimacy of Lara Fabian, which we discover in the romantic video of "Je suis a toi". As a third excerpt, the singer now proposes the vibrant "Par Amour". In the text, Lara Fabian says she is ready to brave all the storms and obstacles to save her marriage. "Beyond all the shots / from life that's playing with us / I know us stronger / I know us stronger” she claims on some piano notes and flocks of violins, keeping hope of happy days. This spark is reflected in the beautiful clip "Par Amour", where a young man on crutches, captivated by a dancer, refuses to feel sorry for himself and redoubles effort to get up. Both then dash into a contemporary ballet, under the benevolent gaze of Lara Fabian. A beautiful message!

This third release coincided with Lara’s promotion in Europe, where she will spend the next two weeks; she illustrated this with the following picture on her Facebook site:

As an example of her upcoming activities there, an article appeared in (https://www.sortiraparis.com/scenes/concert-musique/articles/187205-lara-fabian-en-seance-de-dedicaces-a-la-fnac-montparnasse-a-paris#BUFLqtLs6T7c2G3c.99:; here’s the translation:

Lara Fabian Signing at FNAC Montparnasse in Paris
Find the singer Lara Fabian in exclusive signing session on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Forum de la Fnac Montparnasse.
With the feat of more than 20 million albums sold worldwide, Lara Fabian is back with a new and 14th French album.
Two years after her English album, "Camouflage", and four years after her last French opus, "Ma vie dans la tienne", Lara Fabian presents "Papillon".
This project, entirely conceived in Montreal, was directed by Moh Denebi, one of the most talented music producers of the new Swedish pop sound that currently dominates the American and European charts.
And to honor this event, Lara Fabian will make a nice gift to her fans investing the Forum FNAC Montparnasse in Paris for a meeting of exclusive signings; do not miss it on Saturday 16 March 2019, at 16h .
Note that this event is free of charge in the limit of available places.
It is recalled that Lara Fabian will also be in concert across the Hexagon in 2020 and will stop in particular in the cities of Roubaix, Metz, Marseille, Montpellier, Nantes, Tours, Lyon, without forgetting Paris where the singer will take the stage at the legendary hall of the Olympia twice, on March 24 and 25, 2020.
-----------------------------------------------------
In fact, two signings at FNAC are planned, the March 16th event discussed above, as well as one on March 19th in Brussels.
In addition, Lara will be a guest on the program “300 Choeurs” (http://www.emissions-tv.com/emissions/398/300_choeurs_chantent_les_plus_belles_chansons_de_leurs_idoles?fbclid=IwAR1K7976jb4aBt5DACLCqcH4PqmQ7SUuxjBhg9mefm4YbZ-KmS4up0qdchQ) on France 3. The text reads “Find on stage several generations of artists accompanied by the most beautiful French choirs who will revisit together the hits of their idols in totally new versions.” The recording of the show will be done on March 19th.
She’s also doing promo for both the album and 50 tour on RTL Radio France (https://www.instagram.com/larafabianofficial/p/Bul-W39HuCW/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1q105r8b1hxf1&fbclid=IwAR3LaQmNEF9_OOkLm9EAgPj06SMXtmMgoNXoiGT06KrM4xlOkO9lvHFLV4Y), on the show “Les Grosses Tetes” (https://www.facebook.com/larafabianweb/photos/pcb.2681974065151445/2681973998484785/?type=3&theater).
There are a series of short videos of Lara’s interview with europe1.fr on youtube, at

(your songs have been the soundtrack of my life; your ‘reputation as a celebrity’ contrasts with what a sweet guest you show yourself to be)

(is this the album of maturity?; we are not equipped for success at a young age)

(things she has done to achieve serenity, including non-violent communication)
And today, Lara posted the following picture on her FB site, at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803/2628272557214225/?type=3&theater
with the caption “Interview for the journal of M6, at "MOMOKA", my favorite restaurant in Paris.”
As to how ‘Papillon’ is doing in these countries: In Belgium, in its third week, the album has dropped to #14. Perhaps Lara’s appearance there will help boost it back up, but the reality is she mostly won’t be there in the coming months. The same scenario holds true in France, where it dropped 24 places to #34. This album has to be listened to frequently before it can be truly appreciated; Lara has only the next two weeks to get it off the ground there, and hope it can then fly on its own. Good luck to it!
And now on to La Voix, the third program of ‘blind auditions (and remember, we’re one week behind in this Update, as the fourth show was held this past Sunday night):
*Lara is certainly becoming more selective about which candidates she is willing to have on her team, and thus tutor. She refused to turn around her chair for a number of them on this episode. The primary reason would appear to be their musical style just does not match hers, especially the coarsely-voiced rock or country applicants.
*Nevertheless, she picked up three new members: Frederique German, an emotional bluesy singer; Dahlia, an attractive tremulous singer (for whom Lara was the only judge she could choose); and the last candidate on the show, Marianne Mathieu, a jazzy full-voiced woman. Through three shows Lara had 8 members on her team (and after the fourth week she was up to 10).
*For Dahlia, Lara returned the earlier action of Alex by blocking him, because she felt she would be the best coach for her.
*In association with one of the candidates who was not chosen (Nicolas), the judges danced around, enjoying the music (but not enough to want him).
*This is just my opinion, of course, but it seems as if Eric has the weakest team so far, and is also the least animated of the judges. Perhaps those two things go together.
Interesting photo(s) of the day: from the Lara Fabian web site, first Lara in the theater before her concert,

and then during the show,

This coming week, as indicated, Lara will be in France and perhaps Belgium promoting her album, with several events already planned. We’ll see whether Papillon has further ‘legs’ in the Quebec market, and whether it is helped by Lara’s promotional efforts in the Francophone European countries. And La Voix will be continuing, with one more week of blind auditions. This continues to be a very good time for Lara.
