The big news this past week was, of course, Lara’s 49th birthday. Her Quebec music company, Musicor, and many of the fan sites sent her birthday greeting and well-wishes (and we do, likewise ). Among them, Musicor provided their standard beautiful picture of Lara, with a happy birthday wish, at:

The ‘Closer’ created a youtube video for her birthday, with various pictures of Lara and a review of her career, at

The Lara Fabian Romania site marked the occasion by putting together a beautiful montage consisting of times from when Lara was on-stage in Bucharest for "Je t'aime" (2012, 2014, 2016 2018):

There was a happy birthday picture with many butterflies, from the Lara Fabian – PHQ site, at:
There were others, all very creative. For her next birthday, the momentous 50th, one expects there will be an even larger response (and from Lara as well, for she will be on-stage in Brussels that night with a celebratory concert).
Lara responded to these as well as to the many congratulations left on her facebook site, with a picture at

In other personal news, Lara posted an interesting photo of herself taken at the show “Panic at the Disco”,
indicating it was a “magic moment”.
Otherwise, the two general categories, the new album promotion and La Voix were well represented. Concerning the new album, Lara placed a photo on her Instagram site, at
with the information that “"Je suis à toi - Moto Blanco Remix” is at the top of the playist for "Nouveautés de la semaine Canada" [News of the Week] on Spotify.
On her FB site, she posted the following: (translated): “I know there are a lot of dads and moms listening to my music with their kids.. (and also grandparents, uncles, aunts, godparents, godparents..). and if this week, your little ones drew me a beautiful Butterfly? Send me their drawings to papillon@9prod.com until next Sunday! Lara obviously has plans for these pieces, hence the Sunday cut-off. ‘Emille Perrier’ wrote into Lara’s site with this clever response, “Ask Lou to draw you a butterfly, she fits the criteria.”
As part of the album promotion, “Paris Match Belgium” had an interesting interview with Lara (https://parismatch.be/i-like-belgium/225434/lara-fabian-sil-ne-vous-restait-que-24-heures-a-vivre-que-feriez-vous%e2%80%89?fbclid=IwAR2CqKO5sRjwl59AvSMkWcoyoMNUK6oU0XnXmqq5kKYPjZVn9KVoUwQwk-g). Lara Fabian: "If you only had 24 hours to live, what would you do? "
Her new album, "Papillon", is to be released on February 8, 2019. Eleven songs in French, some of which have already appeared as singles. Lara Fabian will also perform on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Forest National.
By Christian Marchand
Paris Match. Why is your album entitled "Papillon"?
Lara Fabian. My grandmother called me thus. The butterfly sometimes lives only 24 hours. If you only had 24 hours to live, what would you do? I would step back and spend quality time with my husband, my daughter, my parents. That's the last thing I want to do before I die. To listen to "Papillon" is to take the measure that it is urgent to live now, to stop torpedoing ourselves with little things that, in the end, do not have much interest. I’ve learned that to be happy, you have to look at life with simplicity.
With the passing years, do you feel freer and more serene?
Lara Fabian: Yes, completely. That said, freedom is an abstract concept. Nobody is really free. We all have threads which attach us to certain things. The important thing is to create, because creation is a form of freedom.
Despite 20 million albums sold worldwide, you stayed the same?
Lara Fabian: I am well surrounded. My family always brings me back to the essential. My education allows me to never forget it.
Do not you feel yourself different in this world?
Lara Fabian: I have had, like everyone else, personal problems and my fifteen minutes of inner torture. But I have never fallen into dope and alcohol. It's not simple, success. It is a very particular animal. In the moment when it comes to us in the face, you have to know how to manage it. And we only manage it as one goes along. We understand then at some point that it is not necessarily something that we would like as a pet.
Because success is totally ephemeral?
Lara Fabian: Exactly. We must let it live. it comes and goes. It stops and then comes back. But the artist does not stop. On the contrary, he evolves in time. And that's the beauty of this job: to evolve whatever the success. My goal has never been to be a star, but to convey feelings. To share emotions. To translate an aim that can connect us and, in the space of a few songs, connect us to each other.
What is your greatest strength?
Lara Fabian: To have my husband and my daughter. They are my priority and my absolute goal. Losing them is my biggest fear. Every day I do everything I can for my family, but I am not guided by the fear. This is not productive of beautiful emotions. My goal is not to avoid the dangers, not to see them, but rather to apprehend them and to face them.
Your songs often speak of love, difference, tolerance. You are a humanist?
Lara Fabian: We do not always measure how important it is to have values and a sense of loyalty. To be attached to one's values contributes fundamentally to our happiness. When we abandon them, we go out of business.
Many artists admit to being hurt by what is being said about them on social networks. And you ?
Lara Fabian: The canvas is a spillway for all those who need it. But does the opinion of a stranger really have value? Can he reach us? To judge is his right, but one must not linger over his judgment. Once the impact is over, it's only just an opinion.
You are constantly on the road. Do you not miss your Belgian identity?
Lara Fabian: Deeply! The people I love I miss. Like going, for example, to sit at Wittamer's in the Sablon, near my friend Leslie's home. It's a bit of a mythical place where my parents took me. I would like so much, also, to spend time with my dad. Go to the restaurant with him. See him smile.
Since you are talking about restaurant, what is your favorite Belgian dish?
Lara Fabian: An American-fries tasted at the "Old St. Martin".
A cute sin?
Lara Fabian: The marvels of Wittamer. The best in the world.
Your favorite Belgian word or expression?
Lara Fabian: "Me, I know the counter." (She laughs)
What would you like for Italy, your mother's country, to borrow from Belgium?
Lara Fabian: Its great faculty of self-deprecation. It's the medicine for everything. It is just a proof of intelligence to be in self-deprecation, while the Latin is a little more proud.
And what do not you understand in Belgium?
Lara Fabian: I never understood that the two communities were not forced to learn the other language. It is the language barrier that creates disconnection first and foremost. I hope that one day a Minister of Education will put this into effect. Studies half French and half Dutch would change everything in this surreal country.

As for La Voix, the standard poster for the upcoming show features Lara with great prominence, e.g., at:
www.facebook.com/lavoixtva/photos/a.327556664006515/1995482210547277/?type=3&theater
The caption reads, “La Voix as you’ve never seen it”. From February 10th at 1900 hours.”
And promo videos are appearing, again featuring Lara, e.g.,

Although this was covered to some extent last week, the more complete video of Lara’s participation in the program “Ca commence bien l’annee” can now be seen at:
vk.com/video-121236_456240700
As was noted it is heavily focused on advertising the coming season of La Voix, and shows some interesting previews. One has to say it was an interesting choice of hair-do on Lara’s part…
You may remember Lara’s performance of “What If” from the very recent movie ‘La Course des Tuques’. Musicor posted a karaoke version of the song, available on youtube, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=clNNTwEpiIU
The full song is available at:

As noted on several youtube videos, Lara has done this before.
Lara’s FB site has started showing “countdowns” to the release of the album. Add one more day, and you have the countdown to the opening program of La Voix. We can expect continued emphasis on these twin activities in the three-plus weeks to come, a nice anticipatory time for Lara and her fans.

Wittamer's is of course the chocolate shop, in this case in the Sablon district of Brussels. And Lara has seen first hand a country with two distinct languages that has requirement that each learn the other's (at least to some extent) in Canada.
