The lead item this week is the availability of Lara’s contribution to the soundtrack of the movie ‘La Course des Tuques’, the song “What If”. It can be found at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9dwnNj6vS4
as well as on Spotify (which Lara’s page promoted). That site has the whole album:
It’s a nice peppy song, which Lara sings with energy and enthusiasm. To me, it improves on multiple listenings, although again one has to get used to Lara in this mode.
Here are the (approximate) lyrics:
WHAT IF
Bright eyed of a blizzard riding straight into you
My eyes pop, my heart drops
Can’t stop to shiver, I can’t look away
What could this be
CHORUS:
_____________________________________
What if
This is the start of something
Like a brand new day snowballing into my life
What if
We play it all or nothing
Holding onto this moment in time
______________________________________
My day’s looking brighter
When you come into view
Sparks fly, ever so high
Never felt better than I’ve been feeling today
What could this be
CHORUS 2X
I can’t stop to shiver
I just can’t look away
Never felt any better
Than I’ve been feeling today
I can’t stop to shiver
I just can’t look away
Never felt any better
Than I’ve been feeling today
CHORUS 2x

And, as noted on Lara’s site, the snow arrived on November 16th at the same time as the album’s release – what could have been better? (!)
Otherwise, there were more pictures concerning the three main themes this fall: La Voix, daily life, and the new album. In this first one, which Lara posted on her Instagram site,
The Larafabianweb FB page provided the link to the following photo,
www.facebook.com/maisonelama/photos/a.866985723326345/2282483645109872/?type=3&theater
And with respect to the new album, there is this from Moh Denebi,
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10155550841581986&set=a.102817871985&type=3&theater
with the caption, “Great friends in the studio listening to the new album of my dear friend Lara Fabian. Please stay tuned soon album release. “
If by ‘soon’ one means 3 months…
In other news, the Lara Fabian et Emmanual Moire: Le Duo FB site provided a link to a show on France 3, “Cette Semaine-Là” that celebrated the November 18, 1997 release of “Je t’aime””. They provided the video for it, which was also linked to on Lara’s FB site, at
www.facebook.com/LaraFabianetEmmanuelMoireLEduo/videos/462891310901586/
On the show both Lara and Rick talk about the song and there are clips of some of Lara’s highly emotional performances of it. Also shown is the clip of Serge Lama singing a version just for her, and Lara’s emotional response; naturally, then, his song and Lara’s performance of ‘Je suis malade’ also came up for discussion. We get to see Johnny Hallyday in the audience, and then his going back stage to greet her – which then, of course, brought up his contribution to her career. Finally, the clip from Lara’s 1998 Victoires de la Musique, in the category ‘Revelations’ was shown.
Lara’s song was presented in the context of the album Pure, and there is some talk that “Je t’aime”, and that album, propelled Lara’s career “across the Atlantic”. This is true to a good extent, but let’s not forget that what first brought her to the attention of the French public was “Tout”, released the previous year (1996), which sold over a million copies in France. As we’ve heard from Lara, she no longer wants to sing it, since it no longer ‘resonates’ with her (see the News Update from 4-24-18, and the Pure People article from the same month (http://amp.purepeople.com/article/lara-fabian-cette-chanson-culte-qu-elle-ne-veut-plus-chanter_a283051/1). But its part in her return to Europe should not be overlooked.
Concerning her ‘Victoires de la Musique’ as a Revelation: an article (https://www.franceinter.fr/musique/revelations-des-victoires-de-la-musique-que-sont-ils-devenus) addressed the question of what happened to the various ‘revelations’ who received that award? They noted that the result was highly variable; while some went on to have very good careers, and receive numerous other ‘Victoires’, others did not. In Lara’s case, her career has certainly lasted but she has never received another one, though they note she has received four ‘Felix’ awards, the Quebec equivalent. As we know, Lara never seemed fully comfortable with the French media, and never ‘played the game’ appropriately there; from that standpoint, she seems a much better fit in Quebec.
Also in the mode of ‘looking back’, Lara’s manager Matt Ersin put the following on his Instagram site: “Time flies.. already 2,5 years since we did the project “Razorblade”, bringing together the strongest female voices from each side of the linguistic frontier of Belgium…”@nataliamusic and @larafabianofficial , uniting the Francophone and Flemish communities of Belgium musically for the first time.. here a memory from the music video shooting #artistmanager #odacity #mattusaeurope #nataliadruyts ##larafabian #razorblade
And, finally, still in the looking back mode, last week there was a discussion of having an album of remixes of some of the songs that Lara sang in Quebec. This week the concept of remixes came up again, in the form of an album of remixes that includes a heavy base version of Lara’s song ‘No Big Deal’ from the album 'A Wonderful Life'. It is produced by ‘Resonanxia’, who describe themselves as (translated):
----------------------------------------
What is Resonanxia ?
Set of talented Djs Remixers / Producers around the world.
Mission: Listen to the proposals of djs, producers, remixers and provide them with a platform to spread their talent.
Vision: Create a global community where everyone can find a platform that helps to grow, exhibit and develop musically.

One can hear a short clip of ‘No Big Deal’ from that album at:

and the CD is not free.
Interesting photo of the week: from the Lara Fabian Mexico site,

There’s no obvious reason to suspect that next week will be much different from the past few, with a (sparse) diet of La Voix and new album news, and some more personal photos in the offing. There may well be the occasional extra, often involving ‘looking back’. We still may get the next single from the new album this month, though nothing has been officially promised. With an 80% chance of snow tomorrow in Montreal, perhaps Lara will get to post some nice snow pictures with her new dog, Kayla.

Hence a flash of Lara’s off-camera life…
