A week with some more promotional activities for Lara’s new album, the beginning of work for La Voix Season 7, but mainly, a lot of pictures!
With a more relaxed schedule, Lara had plenty of time to share with her Social Media audience various photos of interest. On her Facebook (and Instagram) sites, she celebrated the Halloween holiday with several scary pictures of herself, at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803/2369103496464467/?type=3&theater

and also with a pumpkin, at:

with a simple “Happy Halloween!”
Fans replied in kind.
And then indeed it was time to return to work on La Voix, celebrated in some more pictures, e.g.,
with the caption, “Back in the studio for the seventh season of "La Voix" .. With my heart on his leg, Éric Lapointe”,
and a beautiful picture of Lara, at
and the caption, “A first long recording day for "La Voix" .. It promises to be a fantastic season.”
One imagines that now that Lara has had the experience of her first year on the show, she’ll be even more natural and shine even brighter.
The ‘blind auditions’ for La Voix are beginning this week. A photo of the empty chairs can be found at:

Don't wait! Write to the following address now: Public@Productionsdeferlantes.Com ”
There is of course a French version of The Voice, and even The Voice Kids. 'Maelyss' offered as her song “Caruso”, inspired by Lara’s version. Lara responded by supplying a surprise message of courage and good luck to her (on a tablet) as can be seen in the video at:

Here’s the full description: “The fourth and final night of the blind auditions of The Voice Kids season 5 continues. The next to come on stage tonight is the young Maëlyss. At 11, the girl is a fan of Lara Fabian! Thanks to The Voice Kids, the singer left her a little message to encourage her! Boosted by this support, Maëlyss is ready to give everything tonight. She chose to interpret "Caruso" by Luccio Dalla (Lara Fabian version) on the stage of The Voice Kids. The tension rises, the voice of Maëlyss resonates in the studio and coaches already have chills. Will they turn around? In which team will Maëlyss go? Check out her performance and the opinions of coaches Jenifer, Amel Bent, Soprano and Parick Fiori. The Kids Season 5 is every Friday from 21h on TF1 and every day on MYTF1. Excerpt from the program of Friday, November 2, 2018.”

and on youtube, at:

As you can hear, it was extraordinary - the judges, the audience, her parents – all loved it. Note that another song of Lara’s “Adagio” is sung by 10 year old Emily on The Voice Kids tour, visible at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRTuf4nceeQ
Concerning the new album, there is a rumor that the next single from the album “Papillon” will be called "Je suis à toi" (“I’m Yours”) and will be released in November (with the album itself to hit the shelves on February 8, 2019). When asked about this Lara’s people responded, “We make all announcements…We have not yet made any announcement on release dates of the next single.” While this is literally true, in the past this sort of ‘non-denial denial’ usually means the information is approximately correct. But so far, it is not ‘officially’ correct.
Lara did do a promotion interview for the album as a whole, on French radio. It can be heard at
mradio.fr/podcast/view/35866/podcast-en-attendant-midi-l-interview-lara-fabian-du-26-octobre?fbclid=IwAR3J4KolMthnQZ17eK6y7VxpLe8reDbbD4VOblptRZWpcq-fGoNmoSXJw_I
As usual, Lara discussed the new single, the electro-pop nature of the album, and creating it in her home in Quebec. In particular she mentioned how convenient it was, how she could do it at her leisure, taking breaks for meals, etc. Once again, it remains to be seen how much it will ‘fly’ in France and Belgium, given the sound that the French public does not expect from her (that Lara once again had to explain as being purposely contemporary), and without Lara there personally to promote it.
An article in the Quebec press discussed how one goes about calculating today the popularity of an artist, with Lara being mentioned in one regard (https://www.lapresse.ca/arts/musique/201811/01/01-5202547-comment-calculer-la-popularite-dun-artiste.php?fbclid=IwAR1R9lW-E7aVd-Hzlg8r8drkMc0_DnN8wWNZDRzBBRNF354DuyDkB9dcKOY). How to calculate the popularity of an artist?
Stephanie Vallet
While sales of albums and digital music are declining, streaming music services are gaining popularity. They now account for 66% of music consumption in Canada, according to Nielsen Soundscan, but no firm is yet able to quantify it in Quebec alone. How to calculate the popularity of an artist from our home in 2018? La Presse takes stock.
"The decline in album sales has been constant since 2005. But over the last two years, the number of digital albums sold has also fallen. For 2018, after just seven months, we are already seeing a 15% drop in digital sales," explains Claude Fortier of the Observatory of Culture and Communications of the Quebec Institute of Statistics. Sales of audio recordings in Quebec in albums equivalent had already declined by 15% in 2017 compared to the previous year. As the musical offering explodes, it seems that the big winners of this new reality are the streaming listening platforms. But we will have to wait for companies like Nielsen to offer streaming data for the Quebec territory to know precisely to what extent it compensates for the drop in album sales, as is the case in the United States. Certainly, streaming is 66% of the formats used to consume music in Canada.
Album against streaming : two solitudes
Singer and producer, Mario Pelchat chose to say no to streaming platforms. Impossible to find one of his albums after 2010 on Spotify. Do not look for a title of his promising 2Freres. They are totally absent from the Google Play and YouTube of this world. To listen to these artists on demand, you have to buy their records.
A strategy that seems to bear fruit in Quebec, since Mario Pelchat is at the top of the album sales charts for 2017 with 60,000 copies sold of ‘Agnus Dei’ and 50,000 ‘Noel ensemble’. At the same rankings, there are also 2Freres in the third position, with 50,000 copies sold of ‘La route’ and 42,000 of ‘Nous autres’.
In sixth place is enthroned Guylaine Tanguay and her 26,000 CDs of ‘Mon livre vert’. On Spotify, the country singer does not smash records. Her most popular song has 63,000 plays. An artist like Loud counts for her part on more than 5 million listenings for her success ‘Toutes les femmes savent danser’ and an average of 3 million for the other titles of her album ‘Une année record,’ for which she was rewarded at the ADISQ. The song ‘Les ferrofluides-fleurs’ by Klô Pelgag has been heard over 867,000 times on Spotify. Since 2014, Nielsen considers that a song listened by streaming 1500 times is equivalent to the sale of an album. Note that Klô Plegag still sold 12,000 physical copies of her album “L'étoile thoracique”.
Palmarès album sales in Québec
1) Agnus Dei, Mario Pelchat et les Prêtres
2) Noël ensemble, Mario Pelchat et les Prêtres
3) La route, 2Frères
4) Best Ove, François Pérusse
5) Nous autres, 2Frères
6) Mon livre vert, Guylaine Tanguay
Palmarès digital album sales in Québec
1) Big Boy (microalbum), Charlotte Cardin
2) Main Girl (microalbum), Charlotte Cardin
3) Nous autres, 2Frères
4) Best Ove, François Pérusse
5) Dysphorie, Roxane Bruneau
6) Almanach, Patrice Michaud
Digital sales currently account for 18% of music listening, while for albums digital music accounts for 15% of the market.
If we take a look at the artists who have made the most digital sales in Quebec, 2Frères and François Pérusse keep their places. But no trace of Mario Pelchat and Guylaine Tanguay. It is rather Charlotte Cardin who leads the way. Roxanne Bruneau and Patrice Michaud are in fifth and sixth places.
According to Nielsen's mid-year report, while record sales have plummeted since 2005, music consumption is still buoyant, rising almost 20% in mid-2018. And listening by streaming has jumped 53%.
In the first six months of 2018, Éric Lapointe ranks fifth in Canada's most popular albums, all styles, with Délivrance, when adding sales, downloads and streaming of his album. He is in the standings behind Shawn Mendes, Drake and The Weeknd. "I really did not expect to see a Quebecker in this ranking!", still surprised Francis Parisien, Vice President, Eastern Canada, Nielsen.
International success thanks to YouTube
While accurate data for streaming in Quebec is still waiting, YouTube has forwarded to La Presse the list of 10 "most currently viewed" artists on its platform. Marc-André Dufresne, communication and marketing consultant for the streaming giant, indicates that "YouTube has noted a strong interest in the United States and the United Kingdom for Quebec music. It's the Quebec rap that is in great demand, both here and across the Atlantic."

Of course, in Lara’s case it’s quite misleading, for she is a Quebec artist in name only, given her international career. Nevertheless, it’s good to see her get some sort of recognition in La Belle Province, and one imagines if she stays there, her numbers in the other forms of measurement will start going much higher.
