Lara’s concerts in Quebec were clearly the lead story for this past week, the first two in Montreal, followed by one in Quebec City. While these were officially part of the ‘Camouflage’ World Tour, Lara had indicated she would substitute a number of French songs, which she did, so that there were more French than English titles. Here was the setlist, the songs being the same in all three shows (though it appears the order was a bit different for the show in Quebec City):
Chameleon; Je t’aime; La différence; Growing Wings; We are the Flyers; Humana; Painting in The Rain; J’ai zappé; J’y crois encore; Choose What You Love Most; Tu es mon autre (duo with George Perris); Broken Vow (by George Perris); Pas sans toi; Je suis malade; Immortelle; Tu t’en vas (duo with Félix Lemelin); Si tu m’aimes; I Will Love Again; Saisir le jour; Papillon
From all reports, the shows were spectacular. Lara was in fine voice, and quite happy to be performing. She spoke often to the public, expressing her gratitude over the reception she has received on returning to Quebec, and likewise expressing love for them and the country. When performing “Papillon” – a surprise, given her history of not singing new songs live before an album’s release – she emphasized that it was entirely produced in Quebec. One can see the fan reaction by reading the various comments people left on Lara’s website, often in conjunction with the videos she herself provided (and see also the comments on the youtube videos, whose links are provided below). She did make an effort to ‘combine’ the old and new in certain songs – both ‘Immortelle” and “Si tu m’aimes” got updated with more rhythmic treatments. The duos with George Perris and Felix Lemelin were also sensational.
The response of the press was equally as positive. Below are various articles about the two shows from the press in Quebec (all are translated). Here is one from the Quebec Huffington Post (https://quebec.huffingtonpost.ca/2018/10/13/lara-fabian-spectacle-theatre-st-denis_a_23559835/?ncid=other_facebook_eucluwzme5k&utm_campaign=share_facebook):

Lara Fabian Continues Her Great Love Affair with Quebec
The singer was treated to many ovations for her reunion with the Quebec public ...
By Jean-François Vandeuren
The great love story between Lara Fabian and the Quebec public was again confirmed this Friday, October 12, when the singer went on stage at the Théâtre St-Denis to give the first of a series of three specially designed concerts for La Belle Province.
Lara Fabian started the evening with the piece “Chameleon”, taken from the album “Camouflage” published in 2017. An introduction that quickly revealed the colors of a show reserving as many moments of pure energy and grace as great delicacy.
Question of re-declaring her love for Quebec - what she did, moreover, all throughout this show of a little less than two hours - the singer-songwriter immediately followed with the inevitable “Je t’aime”. A performance as fine as powerful that earned her the first of a long series of standing ovations.
Surrounded by her talented musicians and singers, Lara Fabian delighted her fans by alternating between her greatest French hits (including “Je suis malade” and “Pas sans toi“) and the very modern English-speaking tracks of her most recent album (including “Growing Wings” and “We Are the Flyers” ). All interspersed with moments when she took the time to maintain the conversation with her audience in a very personal tone.
She once again became an accomplice to that with the song “Humana”, inviting the crowd to sing ever louder the chorus of her 1996 success, which was done with infectious pleasure.
The singer was equally pleased by offering two duets that have particularly attracted attention.
The first with the singer George Perris, with whom she paid a vibrant tribute to her friend Maurane while singing the piece “Tu es mon autre“. Afterwards, Lara Fabian left the stage to Perris, her good friend of the last ten years, the time for the piece “Broken Vow”, which earned the singer a standing ovation.
A little later, Lara Fabian shared the stage with Félix Lemelin, her young protégé from La Voix who moved and impressed her throughout the last season, to deliver a very moving version of the song “Tu t'en vas”.
In the last segment for the audience, Lara Fabian transformed the St-Denis Theater into a dance floor with “Immortelle”, “I Will Love Again” and “Saisir le jour”, and the audience did not miss out on it.
To finish the evening, Lara Fabian has played the pretty “Papillon”, first extract of a new album in French which is scheduled for release in 2019.
Between pure emotions, social message (global warming seems to very much preoccupy the singer) and dancing moments, Lara Fabian delivered a flawless vocal performance. The star has taken an obvious pleasure in revisiting some of her compositions by modernizing or nuancing them, while doing justice to her greatest classics.
Lara Fabian will be performing again this Saturday, October 13, in Montreal at the Théâtre St-Denis, then on October 14 in Quebec City, at the Videotron Center.
------------------------------------------------------------------
The modernization of some of the older songs, as well as the more rhythmic aspects of the new ones, prevented this from appearing in any way as an ‘oldies’ show.

Lara Fabian: a triumphant and immortal communion
The announcement of an exclusive show by Lara Fabian in Montreal and Quebec City was quick to excite the Quebec public who, eagerly awaiting her return for years, hastened to buy all available tickets and force an additional show. During the first concert presented yesterday at the Théâtre St-Denis , this feverishness and immense joy to find the 48-year-old Belgian singer-songwriter was obviously extremely palpable among the spectators who easily multiplied standing ovations, warm applause and spontaneous testimonials of love. Beginner with the piece “Chameleon” from her English “Camouflage” album released in October 2017, Lara Fabian brilliantly demonstrated throughout the evening that she was one of pure emotions on both the vocal and musical plane.
Without waiting, she has enchained everything in nuances with her global success “Je t’aime”, thus testifying to all her gratitude in the most beautiful way. Splendidly accompanied by five musicians and two singers, the singer proposed a show combining French titles adulated here for decades and the pieces of Camouflage (including “Growing Wings”, “We Are the Flyers” and “Choose What You Love Most“) in effective versions more smooth and jazz than on the diametrically pop album. Since she has traveled the world for several months with her English-language opus, the out-of-field narrations heard during the costume changes took place in the Shakespeare language, which clashed a little with the context and the selection of songs, but the public has never really denied a good thing, too happy to hear famous pieces at home, here where Lara's career really took off.
A giant screen divided into banners diffused sublime images of beauties of nature such as glaciers and forests with a melancholy appearance. These screenings, having an intimate and spectacular atmosphere, allowed the texts to unfold more their hidden meanings. Unveiling a resplendent voice in full possession of her means, Lara gave chills by offering long sharp notes on the dynamic “Je zappe”, the touching “J’y crois encore” and “La Difference”, beautiful anthem to the LGBTQ + community that was inspired by the song “Comme ils disent” of the late Charles Aznavour .
At the singer 's request, the audience improvised on the chorus of “Humana”, which created a unique, unifying and moving moment. The emotion in its raw state continued more intensely during “Je suis malade”. Even if the artist has sung this work of Serge Lama countless times, it has again breathed a deep unhappiness destabilizing truth. It’s impossible to look away and not be upset by hearing this vocal spectrum that showed all its tearing sometimes by whispers sometimes by repressed cries. It was the same during the delivery of poignant “Si tu m’aimes” and “Pas sans toi”.
Who says special show also says special guests. In order to pay a warm tribute to her lost friend Maurane, Lara sang “Tu es mon autre” with the Greek singer George Perris who followed in solo with the piece “Broken Vow”. His strong voice has been well received by the public. Lara also shared the stage with one of her contestants in the sixth season of La Voix, Félix Lemelin, for the hit song “Tu t'en vas”. It was particularly touching to watch Lara be sincerely excited and in awe at the notes coming out of Lemelin's mouth.
The show ended with a more daring portion during which spectators did not hesitate to get up and clap their hands and feet. To the sound of “I will love again”, “Saisir le jour” and “Papillon”, the first single of the next French-language album that was entirely made in Quebec, the Théâtre St-Denis became a veritable karaoke! Lara Fabian will also perform in the same room tonight before invading the Videotron Center in Quebec City tomorrow, October 14. Some new tickets have been released, all the details here!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
It is interesting that Lara’s team had tickets to release for the Quebec show; usually they’re reserved for media people and celebrities, who apparently didn’t use them.

Lara Fabian at the Théâtre St-Denis: the Expected Return!
Singer Lara Fabian was back in the province for a series of three concerts, including two at Théâtre St-Denis. The coach of La Voix was visibly happy to see us again.
Even though the artist was on tour to support her latest English-language CD “Camouflage”, she reserved a large part of the concert for her successes in French. Recall that it is here that her career began.
After having sung the title track of her album in English, the 48-year-old woman attacked “Je t’aime” that she delivered all in nuances. From that moment, we knew that the evening would proceed almost flawlessly.
“La difference”, an anti-homophobic piece, followed, then it continued with “Growing Wings” and “We Are The Flyers” . Then, the audience sang with passion the inspiring “Humana”. It must be admitted that the French repertoire of the singer got a better reception on the part of the crowd.
The artist was not alone for the evening: she had invited the Greek singer George Perris. Together, they interpreted “Tu es mon autre” that she performed in duet with Maurane, who died last May.
Lara Fabian also asked Felix Lemelin, who was on her team at La Voix , to come and take the notes with her on Tu t’en vas.
It's really at the end that everything was played out. Indeed, the Belgian delivered her greatest hits like “Si tu m’aime”, “I Will Love Again” and “Saisir le jour” that revived the public. On the other hand, do not look for Tout and Leïla , they were not on the program.
If some songs were a little too restrained, the audience was treated to an almost perfect concert. Lara Fabian presents it tonight at Théâtre St-Denis and Sunday at Center Videotron.
------------------------------------------------------------
The observation that the French songs were better received than the English ones was a response not limited to French Quebec – the same thing happened in the U.S. It’s not surprising that she didn’t sing “Tout”, since she has said she no longer feels aligned with its words, but it is a little odd that “Leila” was absent, given that it was one of her two songs that just received a ‘classic’ award designation at the SOCAL convention.

Lara Fabian Seduces the Theatre St.-Denis!
It is a radiant and generous Lara Fabian who walked the stage of Théâtre St-Denis in Montreal on October 12th. The hall was full, the admirers were conquered in advance and were full of gratitude towards their idol. The 48-year-old Belgian-Canadian singer came to offer a show tailored to Quebec.
She opened the evening with the piece “Chameleon” from her recent English-language album, “Camouflage”, released in 2017. The artist who counts 27 years of a career performed her most recent songs and hits. She was accompanied by five musicians and two vocalists from Stockholm, Sweden.
The audience stood up repeatedly to applaud the performer. One could describe it as a dream audience for the singer. People seemed happy and moved that Lara Fabian returned to Quebec. The artist explained that for her, singing on Montreal soil was like going back home. "You have to go up on the St. Denis stage just like when you come in and sit on the couch," she said to the audience.
Some Surprises
The Greek artist, George Perris, joined Lara Fabian on stage to sing the song “Tu es mon autre” in tribute to singer Maurane, who died last May. The singer looked at her singing partner right in the eyes. It was a very intense and beautiful moment. Lara Fabian's semi-finalist at La Voix 2018, Félix Lemelin, also shared the stage with his coach, the time of the timeless song "Tu t’en vas". Impressing the audience by the power of his voice, the singer also possessed a palpable stage complicity with his singing partner.
Queen of the four elements
The theme of nature was present throughout the show. Indeed, projections used as scenery and imagery, for example, birds in flight or a tide, embellished the stage scene. Like a queen of the four elements, Lara Fabian wore several outfits during the show whose main color was brown.
The song ‘Je suis malade” of Serge Lama, performed by Lara Fabian was the most breathtaking moment of her performance. Mixing theatricality, intensity, precision and vocal prowess, the performer gave us goosebumps by giving body and soul to this performance. A real gift to her admirers.
In the guise of a call back, she performed her most recent song, “Papillon”, which will be featured on her upcoming album in 2019. The elegant singer has proved that she has Quebec tattooed on her heart, by her generosity on stage. This show will also be presented again this Saturday, October 13 at the Théâtre St-Denis in Montreal and the next Sunday, October 14 at the Videotron Center in Quebec City.
---------------------------------------------
A number of the articles commented on the environmental nature of the Camouflage concert, from its beautiful projections to the imagery and content of the songs. This was a feature that was not widely publicized about it during the time of its release or the concerts in general.

Lara Fabian: The Voice of Emotion
SAMUEL PRADIER
For her comeback, Lara Fabian was in vocal form on Friday night at the Théâtre St-Denis for the first of three shows in Quebec on her schedule.
While on the international tour with the songs from her latest English-language album, "Camouflage", she chose to present a different show for her reunion with the audience who gave her her first hits.
After the opening with "Chameleon", from her most recent opus, Lara Fabian chose to hit hard with the song that made her known to the world, in 1997, "Je t’aime", in a version more nuanced and moving than the original. "I could not not sing that song first for you," she confessed, before continuing with "La Difference," which she wrote as a nod to the famous "Comme ils disent "of Charles Aznavour.
Simply surrounded by five musicians and two singers, Lara Fabian does not need artifices, her voice and her songs do all the work. On some songs, projections of zen and inspiring landscapes nevertheless adorned the curtain at the back of the stage.
Throughout the evening, the singer went to draw on the various albums that marked her 27-year career, both in French and in English. We could hear "Growing Wings", "Humana" or "J’y crois encore".
For "Tu es mon autre," Lara Fabian invited the Greek singer George Perris for an incredible duet on this song that she often sung with her friend Maurane, who died last May.
A little later, it is Felix Lemelin, her protégé of the last edition of "La Voix", who came on stage to sing "Tu t’en vas" with his former coach.
As a final bouquet, Lara Fabian released her big caliber as her wonderful version of "Je suis malade" of Serge Lama, "Pas sans toi", “Immortelle" (in a "dance" version that does not do it justice) , "I Will Love Again", "Si tu m’aimes", to finish with "Papillon", the first extract of a new album to come in 2019.
Although we may regret that Lara Fabian remains very static during the show, her voice is still carrying great emotions that she transmits with great intensity, to the delight of a public conquered in advance.
Lara Fabian will once again present this exclusive show at Théâtre St-Denis this Saturday (full) and Sunday at 7:30 pm at Center Videotron in Quebec City.
------------------------------------------------------
The reviewer did not care for the ‘uptempo’ version of Immortelle…and some people writing in also didn’t care for that treatment of “Si tu m’aimes”. Many people did like them, although it goes back to the concept that a lot of Lara’s die hard fans feel she is at her best when she sings emotional ballads (another difference between the (older) French and (newer) English songs, that has led to the different audience responses).
With respect to the concert in Quebec City, there is this article from the ‘Carrefour of Quebec’ (http://www.carrefourdequebec.com/2018/10/reconfortante-lara-fabian/):
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Comforting Lara Fabian
Quebec - Lara Fabian gave a quite sweet show last night at the Videotron Center. A totally different atmosphere from the day before, but comforting for the beginning of autumn.
Quebec was the last stop on Lara Fabian's world tour. The singer said she was moved to be here because she felt at home.
The concert began with Chameleon, a pop song that launched the evening in a good way. Lara then sang “Je t’aime” which passes presentation. The audience was all ears in front of her interpretation all sweet and beautiful. As for “Growings Pains”, the piece enveloped us. For its part, “Humama” offered a beautiful moment with the audience who got up to sing the chorus in the refrain.
After a short interlude and a change of dress, Lara returned with “J’ai zappe”, then “J’y crois encore” still beautifully interpreted. She continued with the ballad, "Choose What You Love Most". She herself of Belgian origin, Lara paid tribute to Maurane, her sister, who was lost a few months ago. She sang “Tu es mon autre” in duet with George Perris. This one being a favorite singer of hers, she asked him to sing his favorite song of her records in English, “Broken Vow”. The Greek delivered a flawless and touching interpretation.
Lara continued with another sad song, “Pas sans toi”. The spectators were silent, hypnotized by the interpreter. The emotion was palpable. Her performance had been moreover worthy of acclaim. She then followed with “Je suis malade” for which one can not remain insensitive to the power of her voice. Once the last notes ended, the audience instantly rose to applaud eagerly.
In the third part, we had the reprise with “Immortelle” which offered to us a more rhythmic tempo. The audience was treated to a first, Papillon, the single of her most recent album in French. From this first, we went to one of her first successes in Quebec, “Tu t’en vas”, which she sang in duet with Felix Lemelin, known from ‘La Voix’. She concluded with I Will Love Again and “Si tu m’aimes”. All that was missing was “Saisir le jour” which she sang as an encore.

LARA FABIAN'S BIG VOICE MAKES THE VIDEOTRON CENTER VIBRATE
The singer presented a show designed for her Quebec fans this Sunday night in Quebec City.
After two stops at the St-Denis Theater in Montreal, singer Lara Fabian stopped at the Videotron Center in Quebec to present an exclusive show, developed for her long-time fans.
Mixing pieces from her large repertoire, as much those in French as in English, the singer-songwriter of Belgian origin offered a beautiful gift to her many admirers in Quebec. Beginning her tour with the song "Chameleon" from her latest studio album, she went on with one of her biggest hits, "Je t'aime". It was enough for the crowd to ignite and scream their unconditional love for the European diva.
Although the atmosphere of the arena shows is always colder than in conventional venues, a hot flash flooded the stage when the singer sang "Humana" then encouraged the crowd to accompany her. The strength of a choir of 6,400 people is particularly impressive, especially when it is dedicated with as much emotion and affection.
Among the other highlights of the evening, we note this vibrant interpretation of "J’y crois encore", which earned the star a fiery ovation. The Greek singer George Perris's appearance on the stage was also remarkable, notably because of this reprise of the piece "Tu es mon autre" that Fabian used to sing with the late Maurane. She paid tribute to her friend who died too soon .
Unsurprisingly, her interpretation of the piece "Je suis malade" gave us chills. The singer finished her squatting lament, returned by the words of Serge Lama. Once again, the ovation was in order.
The audience was also treated to her new French song, "Papillon", which has a different sound - more electro-pop - from the rest of her repertoire. Félix Lemelin, who was part of Lara Fabian's team at La Voix last year, then joined her to perform "Tu t’en vas", a song that Lara Fabian now sings only very little except in Quebec where the piece was a huge success in the 90's.
This momentum of love was crowned with "Saisir le jour", a title that can be found on her album “Carpe diem”, published in 1994. Quebeckers love Lara Fabian and she has done well with a show cut tailored for them. A tender moment, like a caress, which concluded in beauty the most recent tour of the artist, proud to describe Quebec as her home.
----------------------------------------------------
Other articles are available (e.g., www.mattv.ca/lara-fabian-un-retour-triomphant/) covering basically the same ground, with the same opinions (that article has some nice pictures). To say this was a complete success is to be guilty of a vast understatement!! Lara has to be beyond happy…
Various videos are available for some of the songs; in general the video quality is not very good (it was possibly discouraged), but, as always, we are thankful for every one that people took, and took the time to post. Lara’s team got into the act, posting some videos from both shows on her website. [We heard from Lara that she was having people film the concert (which took place on her mother’s birthday), so that they could show it to her]. Given the overall video quality, we are departing from our usual procedure and not indicating those that are somewhat better, although one must particularly note the videos taken of the screen at the Quebec concert by Julie McGraw (of the Voice of Passion FB site); while they are included in the list below, you can see them also on her youtube site, at www.youtube.com/user/diamondsofjupiter. In other, though related, news, a number of the articles talked about Lara’s powerful voice, and that was clearly brought out not only in the concerts but in the recent release of her duet with Jean-Pierre Ferland on the song “Un peu haut, un peu loin”. For those interested, here is a translation of its lyrics (from lyricstranslate.com/en/un-peu-plus-haut-un-peu-plus-loin-little-higher-little-further.html):
---------------------------------------------------
A Little Higher, A Little Further
Jean-Pierre Ferland and Jean Leccia
A little higher, a little further
A little higher, a little further
I want to go a little further
I want to see how it is up there
Keep my arm, hold my hand
A little higher, a little further
I want to go even further
Leave my arm but hold my hand
I will not go further than it is necessary
Still a step, still a jump
A storm and a brook
Beware, beware, I released your hand
Wait for me down there, I will return
Still a step, a small step
Still a jump and I am there
Up there if I do not fall
Not, I am there, I do not fall
It is beautiful, it is beautiful
If you saw the world at the bottom, over there
It is beautiful, it is beautiful
The sea smaller than oneself
But you do not see me
A little further, a little more lonely
I do not want to be far all alone
Come to see here how we are beautiful
When we are high, how we are beautiful
A little higher, a little further
I cannot hold your hand anymore
Tell me how I could go up
How to go down without falling
A little further, a little more strong
Still a jump, still on try
I would like to hold you my arms
I am too high, you are too low
Still a step, a small step
You are too far, I love you
Good-bye, good-bye, I will return
If I go down again without falling
It is beautiful, it is beautiful
If you saw the world at the bottom over there
It is beautiful, it is beautiful
The sea smaller than oneself
But you do not see it
A little higher, a little further
I will go even further
Perhaps although a little higher
I will find other ways

In related but out of topic news, the album “Brel”, put together as the last release from Maurane by her daughter Lou Villafranca and her long-time pianist Philippe DeCock, is now available. Information about it can be found at (https://www.rtbf.be/info/medias/detail_maurane-et-brel-en-un-seul-album-quelques-titres-choisis?id=10042823).
Interesting photo(s) of the day: from Musicor, celebrating Lara’s three Quebec concerts,
They noted that the three concerts had a total audience of more than 11,000 people. (!)
And again from Musicor, the closing bow to the audience in Quebec,
Now that Lara’s concerts are finished, there is nothing publicly listed for her in the near future. Presumably the new album is finished, and there is no obvious promotion for it that has been announced, although a concert schedule for ~October of 2019 will eventually become available. Lara generally manages to stay in the news, so we will see what develops between now and the beginning of La Voix.

It is also interesting that Lara did use English at times during the show; her management had initially been worried about producing a concert for ‘Camouflage’ in this province, for fear it wouldn’t be well-received (note Quebec was not part of the original concert venue listing). Lara countered that by including more French songs, without abandoning the English album. That is appropriate since she had expressed regrets that Camouflage hadn’t been sufficiently heard (and the lack of promotion on her part certainly played a role in this). So here was a way to raise its public profile, at least in Quebec.
The article also contains a number of nice pictures from the show.

They noted that the three concerts had a total audience of more than 11,000 people. (!)
