Lara indicated she is back in Los Angeles this week, with an accompanying photo including the iconic Hollywood sign, at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1584322441609247/?type=3&theater
As to what she’s doing there, presumably it relates to final issues concerning the new album, although it’s conceivable that it (also) relates to her song for the movie ‘Cello’.
The date of this photo, or at least of the posting, was May 26th, and it looked as if it could have been taken flying into Los Angeles. We know that Lara was home in Belgium on May 24th, because she posted a video showing her there, while singing Happy Birthday to Dimash Kudaibergenov on that day; he’s 23 years old (thanks to LF UK, and the Lara Fabian Is Here site for the following link). The video is available at:
www.facebook.com/larafabian.artist/videos/1113602382117056/
Lara does a great job with that birthday song. She was not alone in wishing him video birthday greetings - Eva Longoria also sent him a video birthday greeting, as can be seen in the article at:
bnews.kz/ru/news/mirovie_zvezdi_pozdravili_dimasha_s_dnem_rozhdeniya. As noted in that article, Diimas gave a charity concert in Paris May 16th at her “Global Gift Gala”, and a nice picture of them together can be found at: tengrinews.kz/userdata/images/u130/resized/476d1533c1ee467613bbfd72ddd3e6da.jpg . He will be giving a charity concert in Kazakhstan as well.
As you may know, Lara is to sing with Dimash in the Astana Arena in Kazakhstan on June 27th in the cultural program of Expo 2017. Here (again) is a link to an article concerning that event: www.inform.kz/en/dimash-kudaibergenov-and-lara-fabian-to-sing-at-astana-arena_a3012841, and there is a brief biography of him at:

Dimas (Dinmuhammed - real name) Kudaibergenov born May 24, 1994 in the city of Aktobe. He was the winner of the Grand Prix competition "Slavic Bazaar 2015" in Vitebsk, winner of the "People's favorite" National Award , and was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan "For the worthy contribution to strengthening the unity of the people of Kazakhstan." He is a member of the international festival “ABU TV song”.
On January 22, 2017 Dimash Kudaybergen made his debut in the Chinese program "Singer 2017" which is an adaptation of a South Korean reality show "I Am a Singer", in which only professional singers compete. Dimas won the Chinese public with a wide range of unique style and won the first round, with the song "SOS d'un terrien en détresse". April 15, 2017 Dimash Kudaibergenov took second place in the final of this competition.
---------------------------------------------
You may remember he came to Lara’s attention when he won the 6th round of that Chinese show competition with an amazing version of ‘Adagio’, visible at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUrzImeMvBM. It was reported that they are likely to sing Adagio, Daididau and other songs; hopefully there will be some nice videos available. It should be an amazing duet.
Lara earlier had another message, in which she posted a picture of herself, available at
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1581093058598852/?type=3&theater
with the comment, “Hello everybody! While I am making plans for this summer, I would love to hear your summer plans? Any suggestions? Any trips? Or maybe relaxing "staycations"?“
In response, people did indicate some plans that they had, usually of vacations one place or another, or inviting Lara to give a concert at their location. Lara responded to many of them; here are the main points:
**She often answered by saying that fans should come see in her concerts at some of the locations that have already been advertised (e.g., L.A., Chicago),
**Or that theirs was a beautiful country, one of her favorite countries, or that she still didn’t know the country.
**When the question of seeing her in Chile, Argentina and Peru in South America was raised, Lara responded that she would love to go there, and said “You should start a campaign with the Argentinian concert organizing companies to invite me for a concert!"
**Following up on earlier comments she has made, she said that her team was working on bringing the tour to Brazil.
**She indicated she would be going to Kazakhstan (but not for the Expo 2017, when she will only be appearing with Dimash – it’s too early for an English album concert);
**She greeted a fan from Iran (where Lara has a number of fans), praised their civilization and the beauty of their country – but did not say she planned to go there.
**She indicated that the U.S. portion of the tour will be in February; when it was suggested she come to Wisconsin, she said she would love to, which could indicate the U.S. venues may still have some space to grow.
**She said they were working on adding a concert date in Portugal, but as for England, she was waiting for concert promoters to invite her; “we’ll see”, she wrote.
**Concerning Greece, Lara said, “I look forward to come to Greece too! A promise is a promise”.
**She said her team is working on a visit to Vietnam.
**She repeated numerous times that the album will be out in 2017, and there would be singles released from it, and the tour will be in 2018. That means she won’t be ‘touring’ for the new single (perhaps in June 2017), though it doesn’t mean there won’t be some sort of promotion…but, as noted previously, where would that really be? Where is her target audience?
**When asked what Lara’s summer plans were, she avoided the question. However, as indicated above, we know one plan – singing with Dimash in Kazakhstan on June 27th (rehearsals for the two days previous). Maybe she’ll have time to see the country as well.
**And, when asked whether she had been approached to be a jurist on ‘Nouvelle Star’ on M6, Lara responded, “Don't you think that I'm already pretty busy with all the projects that I prepare especially with the album "Camouflage" and the international tour? Don't believe all the rumors circulating .”
A number of Lara’s responses were in English (matching the language she was responding to); when chastised that she was “French, and should be speaking French”, Lara for once (rather than her Team) took the challenge head on, in responding (in French), “I'm Belgian and Canadian, from bilingual countries, and of Italian and Flemish origin. I speak and sing in French, English and also in other languages. French is my main language, but I communicate here with my fans all over the world, who speak all different languages.” Actually, it’s rare to hear Lara refer to her Flemish heritage.
At the end Lara wrote,
“It's touching to read of you, to read your plans, your projects, your stories. All these beautiful destinations for those who go on a trip! Or these beautiful plans at home, enjoying your families and friends.. and of those beautiful projects for those who work, or wait for the arrival of a baby.. I wish a good recovery to all those who are suffering , I kiss all those who give them their time and their love. And I wish good luck to all those who pass through a difficult time in their lives. I embrace you all. A huge hug to all of you. And know that, wherever you are on this tiny planet, you are not alone, and you are loved . Love L”
Beautiful sentiments, to match Lara’s heart and nature.
Lara also posted a link to the wonderful Madonna video of “Don’t Tell Me”, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRLHro9EPD0
along with the lines from the song:
“"Don't tell me to stop
Tell the rain not to drop
Tell the wind not to blow
'Cause you said so,.
..But please don't tell me to stop
But don't ever tell me to stop.. "
Lara might certainly relate to the irresolute nature of those lyrics, as she has not ‘stopped’ for more than 25 years now.
[The following is a little off-topic, but we’ll bring it back to Lara in the end]. The fans reaction to Lara’s praise of Madonna was somewhat mixed, and Madonna is a controversial figure. She is ‘one end’ of a spectrum concerning female singers and the touring/promotion necessary to be a commercial artist in the current age. To some extent one’s position on the spectrum is related to whether the person considers him/herself to be an ‘artist’ or a ‘performer/entertainer’. At the other end was someone like Joni Mitchell. That divide can be witnessed in the comments Joni Mitchell made about Madonna in an interview back in 1991 (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/features/a-conversation-with-joni-mitchell-19910530). Here is the relevant portion:
-----------------------------------------------------
JM: Music has become burlesque over the last few years – video's done that. Every generation has to be more shocking than the last. But at a certain point you've got to reel it in because decadence ultimately isn't that hip. Our country is going down the tubes from it. It's rotten to the core. And I think women can be more than decorative. I mean, it's the same old thing actresses have been saying all along, that there are no good roles for women. Well, there are women creating their own roles, but they're creating such shallow roles. I wonder why.
RS: Yet someone like Madonna can be seen as a feminist hero because she's exploiting her own sexuality rather than being exploited by some man.
JM: That's an interesting idea, but what's the difference between her and a hard hooker, you know? Who's being exploited there? She's reveling in herself, too. But she can take it. I guess that's what it is. It's just being able to take it, you know.
RS: But would you agree that Madonna is the current archetype for the female performer?
JM: Well, she's a great "star". She's got that whore-Madonna thing built in [laughs]. She's like a living Barbie doll but a little bit on the blue side. There's always been that type of female. There's always been a market for it, but the danger is that she thinks she's a role model. And it's a terrible role model. It's death to all things real.
RS: How do you feel about another new queen of rock, Sinéad O'Connor?
JM: I like Sinéad. She's a passionate little singer. And I understand her saying, "I hate this job." It's a horrible job. People don't realize how horrible it is. Making music is great. The exploitation of it is horrible. And I think you've got to be hard as nails. Maybe that's where Madonna has the edge on us. Maybe she doesn't think it's horrible. I think it's degrading, humiliating – so does Sinéad. Whereas Madonna's above being degraded or humiliated. She flirts with it. And perhaps that bravado is in some ways to be applauded; but at what cost to her soul, is my question.
-------------------------------------------------------------
If anything, these comments have become more apropos in the decades following, including an additional JM opinion concerning the increasing shallowness of the music (which Lara might relate to, given the lack of response ‘Le Secret’ got from even her own audience). As far as her opinion of Madonna, the one thing Joni Mitchell did seem to admire was her ability to endure the demands of the profession, which is what Lara is emphasizing in the lyrics she quoted above. Lara has often said the true measure of her success as a musical artist has been her ability to keep going, now for 25+ years, which is due not only to audience acceptance but also to her inner strength.
As to whether the music promotion is an opportunity or a nightmare, Lara seems to enjoy being out on stage and basking in – and returning – the love of her audience. There were times in the past, however, when her battles with the press were the stuff of nightmares. She’s more of an ‘entertainer’ than Joni Mitchell was but less exhibitionist/exploitive than Madonna. Perhaps she’s found a ‘happy medium’ – at least for her.
Lara also referred to lyrics and a video from another singer, Miley Cyrus, on Lara’s official twitter account. The lyrics quoted are:
"But here I am
Next to you
The sky's more blue
In Malibu
Next to you
In Malibu
Next to you, baby.."
This is obviously referring to Lara’s being in L.A. We will forswear any discussion of Miley Cyrus and her relation to Madonna! The ‘Malibu’ video is at: www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=8j9zMok6two
Concerning touring, Lara’s Team just added a new date, for Budapest on April 8th, 2018 in the Budapest Arena. They indicated that tickets will go on sale June 1st at www.ticketportal.hu. (As of the time of this writing, that has not been added to the ‘Events’ section of Lara’s FB site). If they mean the Budapest Sports Arena, it can hold up to 12,500 people for its largest concert configuration; the actual number will probably depend on estimated ticket sales.
Lara also put a picture on her official Twitter account referring to the 2018 concert in L.A., visible at
with the caption, “"La La Land in Concert", at the Hollywood Bowl. Magic !” She certainly seems excited to be ‘performing’ there!
In news concerning the auctions for Fondation Papillon, the one for the dinner with Lara is now closed. The one for Lara's performing costumes will still go on until June 10. As evident on the site (https://www.troostwijkauctions.com/uk/garde-robe-lara-fabian/01-24678/), bids for the 73 outfits generally (currently) range from 150 to 250 euros. If, for example, winning bids average 200 euros each, that would raise close to 15,000 euros; the final number might well exceed that, given the time left for bids to be entered.
Interesting photo(s) of the week: two somewhat pensive ones, first from Lara Fabian Italy

Next week, we may expect to get some more verification of 2018 concerts; also, there still has been no announcement as to when the pre-listening event for the new album in Brussels is to take place, expected to be very soon. One thing that does seem to be happening is that Lara is Tweeting more, so that becomes an additional source of information, augmenting her FB site.
With Lara in L.A. at the current time, anything is possible in the ‘city of the angels’- and while they are mostly not “Lara’s angels” , some are to be found. Lara was at ‘Le Petit Four’ on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. She posed for a picture with Amal Kharraz Yyss, who works there and lives in L.A., but is from Brussels. Amal put it on her FB/Instagram site with the caption, “One of the best moments with one of my favorite French singers Lara Fabian... “ (thanks to the Lara Fabian Web site for the link), and it’s available at:
Notice the jacket Lara is wearing – with the words “Never Stop”, and “Fighter Girl”. Madonna would certainly approve.

Notice the jacket Lara is wearing – with the words “Never Stop”, and “Fighter Girl”. Madonna would certainly approve.
