Lara is still in a ‘time-out’ mode, at least publicly, so instead she took the opportunity to refer to various items in the field of video, dance, movies and song that she considers of great quality. We can therefore take the time to present and comment on them as well, including a newsworthy item of decidedly lower quality.
Starting with the item closest to her, musically, she presented a link to a video of a Kazak singer, Dimash Kudaibergenov, competing in China on the program “I Am A Singer”. He performed ‘Adagio’, and apparently won the competition. The video can be found at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOYHNVzE0qw
and Lara included the caption, “‘Adagio’ travels across continents.. Congratulations to Dimash Kudaibergenov performing at the Chinese TV competition ‘I am a singer’.
The video starts out as if this is just one more ‘teen idol’ (yes, they apparently have them in China as well!), but, actually, he gave an amazing, impassioned extreme performance, reaching incredibly high notes. Clearly he threw himself completely into the song, and won over even what appear to have been initial skeptics. This was certainly a memorable rendition.
Actually, as noted by the Lara Fabian est ton autre’ site, he had already sung the song ‘S.O.S d'un terrien en détresse” of Daniel Balavoine; that was also done in a quite creative (and exaggerated) manner, as can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvRlIC3XPqg
Several fans wondered whether Lara would want to sing a duet with him during her upcoming tour of Asia – it would be a very interesting piece!
Still in the field of music, and Lara’s songs, Saïd-Nébil Oudjane, a “Comedian/singer” produced a compelling version of Lara’s song, “Envie d’en rire”. It can be heard at:
www.facebook.com/snoudjane/videos/1189009147820098/
His version is being played on the air; he included the following (translated) statement, “Just for kicks. My first broadcast. Thanks to Eric Thomas and radio France Bleu Provence for paving the way for me”. In its low-keyed way, it is as good as the ‘Adagio’ above. On the MZ FB site, he noted that ‘Lara Fabian’ “liked” his cover version.
Moving further away from Lara’s music, but into fields of cinema and dance that she loves, she posted a link to one of the most incredible videos one can imagine seeing.
It is available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1F0lBnsnkE
As noted at the site Lara linked to:
---------------------------------------------------------
“When Michael Binder saw the mega viral hit that featured a bunch of dance scenes from popular movies matched up to the incredibly popular song, “Uptown Funk,” he was instantly inspired to do a similar mashup, only he wanted to use dance scenes from movies that only came out of the Golden Age of cinema.
It’s pretty amazing to watch legends like, Gene Kelly, Shirley Temple, Judy Garland, and Fred Astaire dance to one of the catchiest songs ever!
The amount of time it must have taken to edit this whole piece together is truly astounding. Not only did Binder have to be aware of the dance sequence in his head, but he had to time it properly with the music without speeding up or slowing down the original footage.
In the end he created a video that is really fun to watch. He really put a lot of thought into this whole project, and just about everyone loves the final result!

As somebody wrote, this should have gotten an Academy Award itself!
And then it was on to the movie awards, first the ‘Cesars”, France’s equivalent of the ‘Oscars’ for French or primarily French productions. Lara included a poster tribute to ‘Elle’, which won for best picture, showing Isabelle Huppert, who won for best actress.

This movie, too, was a high quality, though mature, production.
Then it was on to the Academy Awards. Lara had the following statement, “Loved Viggo Mortensen in "Captain Fantastic".. "Loving", "Moonlight", "Lion", "Hacksaw Ridge" and " La La Land" also great movies … which one is your favorite this year?”
While some of these movies lived up to the quality displayed in the pieces above, unfortunately, as you undoubtedly know by now, the show failed miserably at the key point. The two presenters, Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway mistakenly presented the best picture award to ‘La La Land’, when “Moonlight” had really won. As discussed at (http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/oscars-2017-best-picture-mixup-pricewaterhousecoopers-issues-apology-w469204), they were accidentally handed the card for ‘Best Actress’, which read “Emma Stone, La La Land” (an award that had already been presented), and assumed that meant ‘La La Land’ was the winner. For those who haven’t seen it, and want to observe embarrassed people, a clip of part of this is available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvK-g1rehpU
The article above also notes,
------------------------------------------------------------------
“Ironically, PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Brian Cullinan and Martha Ruiz had spoken to the Huffington Post about the exact — then hypothetical — situation just days before the Academy Awards.
They’d said no procedure was in place because that mistake had never happened in the Oscars' 89-year history.
They insisted the situation was “so unlikely” to happen, but that if it did, they’d do everything they could to make sure the correct person or movie was known “very quickly.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------
One imagines there might have been some ‘prescience’ going on here – analogous, though much less serious, to the advertisements for the Titantic, stating “Not Even God Himself Could Sink this Ship”.
In more traditional ‘Lara” news, the 'Lara Fabian est ton autre’ site reported that Lara will be featured twice on the TV show “the 20 favorite duos of the French”, to be broadcast in prime time on channel W9, March 14. Lara’s duet with Johnny Hallyday of “Requiem pour un fou” is one, and her duet with Maurane of “Tue es mon autre” is the other. Maurane gave an interview years ago talking about how much criticism she got from her fans for doing that duet with Lara; this was at a time when Lara was in disfavor with a segment of the public. And now it is one of the ’20 favorite duos of the French’. The ups and downs of show business (as the two movie productions experienced at the Academy Awards in very short order!).
For those who have never heard the 2 CD “Best of” [from 2010] – and the claim is that it is not available on iTunes, Spotify or Deezer – one can find it (at the moment, at least) on youtube, at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=1g1O9wcMhy0
or equivalently,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyZBx0ryzEo
(The second link has some 2 million views!)
There are some 30 songs, with about two hours of music, mixing mostly Lara’s French and some English songs plus an occasional Italian. It also included two previously unreleased songs, ‘On saimerai tout bas” and “Ensemble”, a "duet" with Ray Charles. The novelty at the time was that it had songs from both of Lara’s English albums, and from her different record companies. Some effort seemed to have gone into making this a nice collection, although there are a few odd choices; one would not normally consider ‘Ne lui parlez plus d’elle’ to be one of Lara’s ‘best’. Apparently this project was demanded by Universal, an attempt to get as much commercially out of Lara as possible. But if one just wants to have many of Lara’s best songs accompanying what one is doing, putting this on and letting it play is a good way to do it.

Lara’s concert in London is now two weeks away. The guess here is that it will be a sort of ‘best of’ concert, with perhaps a few more English language songs but nothing out of the ordinary. With no album to promote, it’s hard to see how it can be anything else; furthermore, that wouldn’t seem to require much preparation, and it’s not obvious that Lara has been all that busy preparing for it. The main achievement will then be to have given a concert in London (and hence in England) for the first time, rather than presenting the new album. We’ll see whether that’s right – it would be great to be proven wrong!
