I have found that "9" even though a great album, I don't find myself listening to it much anymore. I still listen to "A Wonderful Life" a lot and "Pure", "Nue", "En Toute Intimite", and Lara's first english album quite a bit. I don't know if it's that those other albums are so fantastic and amazing compared to "9" or if it's something about "9". Most of my favourite Lara songs are from other albums. I was just wondering where you guys stand on this.

Very much the same as you. I love some of the songs on "9" and consider them as beautiful as any she has ever sung. However, I just don't feel that there is a thread to the whole thing, and I can never quite connect with it. It's far too jumpy to me, going in too many directions, and flowing in and out of too many musical styles. It's much more enjoyable to me when I choose a song from the album that I am in the mood for and only play that one song. That way I can enjoy the beauty of it much more than when it is surrounded by the rest of the album, because I tend to lose the "mood" of that particular song when I get to the next one!

Although I completely agree, I do however appreciate "9" very much. An artist like Lara Fabian has so much vision, and so much depth to her wellspring of ideas that I think she just needed to do this album and get it out there. When Bruce Springsteen went into the studio to start recording songs for "The River" album, it is said that he had over 100 songs written for it! They wound up making it a double-album release with 19 songs. After listening to "The River", which is a great album, you notice that it doesn't have the thread to it, or the thematic embodiment that all of his previous albums definately had. I think he just had a lot of songs in his mind and heart, and needed to express them. "The River" is jumpy in every way the same as "9", in theme and in musical style from one song to the next, but still, I think there is something to be very much appreciated in the vision of the songs on an individual listen. What do you think?

I agree with you that there are some great songs, but even listening to it individually I find I'd rather listen to songs like from her other albums. Lara does have great vision, I really like her vision but I also found that 9 was a bit safe. It had great lyrics and has great music and compared to what else is out there was a fantastic album but I found there was no songs that blew me away in all ways (music, lyrics, and everything put together) like on her other albums (Parce Que Tu Pars, Je T'Aime, Ici, Tango, Je Suis Malade, etc.). I think it also might be because I just can't get into the mood of most of the songs on 9. In her past albums it sometimes seemed that her emotions were almost the same as I was feeling but it's not like that with 9. I'm not trying to bash 9 here, just trying to understand why I don't feel the same way about it. Though I think songs like Speranza, Je Me Souviens, Un Ave Maria, and L'Homme Qui N'Avait Pas De Maison are fantastic songs and up with some of her best.

"9" would still be my favourite album that was released in 2005, that will tell you how good I find Lara's music. I don't really want to down play "9" too much, because I have a feeling it has more to do with my connection to her other albums (and the emotions in them) and that "9" I didn't feel the same connection with than the fact that "9" was not an amazing album because it is.

Well, please do not feel the need to apologise for bashing "9" because in no way does it come across that way. It only sounds like you are a HUGE Lara fan who can love her music and person so much that you can be lovingly be critical of some of her work. I really agree with you, and the best evidence I can offer is that I rarely listen to "9." I almost always go for other albums that you mention. My comments simply came from an attempt to see from the artists point of view. Maybe, just maybe, Lara felt the need to strip things down a bit. Heck, Bruce has done it three times throughout his career with acoustic flavored albums (Nebraska, Tunnel of Love, and The Ghost Of Tom Joad....oh four, Devils And Dust.) But, it doesn't seem at all as if you are bashing "9" or Lara; only that you love her and her music enough to critically evaluate her albums from more than a superficial point of view. I respect that very much. Somehow, I think Lara would too!

"9" is great to an extent, but it sounds Celine Dionish, which is the downside.

That is an observation that I would not have known had you not shared it because I am not familiar with much of Celine's music. Do you see how very important it is that you visit here? And how valuable your contribution is?

I own practically every French CD Celine has ever released. I hate to even mention Celine and Lara in the same sentence let alone in the same breath, but, on "9" there's shades of Celine Dion. It's disappointing, but, Lara's incredible voice makes up for it. That is an observation that I would not have known had you not shared it because I am not familiar with much of Celine's music.
