Lara Fabian opens 'Istanbul Live' concert series
From Turkish Daily News - 20/06/2006
A new concert series titled "Istanbul Live" is set to heat up the already hot summer nights in Istanbul, featuring live performances by some of the biggest international music stars.
The very first star of "Istanbul Live" is Lara Fabian, who is currently on a world tour promoting her latest album, "9".
The Belgian-born multilingual singer/songwriter is scheduled for a concert on June 24 at 9:30 p.m. at Istanbul's Parkorman, which will be her first-ever performance in Turkey.
Having sold more than 10 million albums worldwide and named World's Best-Selling Benelux Artist twice at the World Music Awards, Fabian will be singing her hits from her first album in 1991 to her latest release "9" at the Istanbul concert.
Fabian, with 11 albums to date, has collaborated with producers who work with Madonna, Cher and Mariah Carey, topping the charts from Japan to the United States with her hits.
Fabian became a legend with her cover of "Adagio"; she topped the Billboard Dance Charts with "I Will Love Again" and lately has become a Hollywood star by appearing in the movie "De-lovely."
With her track "Je t'aime," Fabian has earned an amazing number of fans. With her song "La Difference," she made record-breaking history as it's the best selling French single ever.
Fabian was born in January 1970 in the Belgian town of Etterbeck. Her Flemish father and Sicilian mother, inspired by the theme song of the film "Doctor Zhivago," named her Lara.
She began her formal music training at the age of eight when she enrolled in the Conservatory of Brussels.
Accompanied by her musician father, an ex-guitarist and backup vocalist for Petula Clark, she began her singing career at 14 in Brussels.
Later moving to Montréal, she released her French-language debut album, "Lara Fabian," in 1991 in Canada.
As a sublime and a passionate performer, she toured consistently throughout the 1990s, capturing the hearts of audiences around the world with her electrifying live shows.
Her eloquent writing and soulful vocals drew fans to her 1994 album, "Carpe Diem," her 1997 breakthrough "Pure," which sold more than 2 million copies in France alone, and a best-selling live album that debuted at number one on French album charts in 1998.
Her English-language debut album -- also titled "Lara Fabian" -- was released in the U.S. in 2000. Driven in part by the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play hit "I Will Love Again," this album debuted at number one on the Billboard Heatseekers new album chart.
Her music has been featured in numerous movie and television soundtracks including "Songs From Dawson's Creek, Vol. 2," "Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within" and Steven Spielberg's "A.I." Most recently she appears in Irwin Winkler's Cole Porter biopic "De-Lovely," performing Porter's "So In Love" with Mario Frangoulis.
Her best-selling European DVD and CD, "En Toute Intimité," released in October 2003, was an intimate, acoustic piano-based collection showcasing Fabian performing songs in English, Italian and French.
Tickets for Fabian's Istanbul concert are on sale through the Biletix Web site at www.biletix.com and at the Parkorman box office.
