Here is the newest update by David. I am very excited. If this is true "Aime" (did I tell you I love this song) will be on the live cd/dvd and released as a single. And Lara will be in the U.S. next year. We need to start saving to go to some concerts. WAHOO!!! But as we all know, things change so let's cross our fingers.
Of course the big news this week was Lara's concert in Montreal on Friday night. I've included some quick impressions in the "Montreal Chronicles" post, and will simply say here that it was a very unique and powerful concert, combining old and new songs, before an audience that was extremely intense and wildly appreciative.
The press at one level recognizes Lara as the superstar and amazing talent that she is - thus she was featured on radio and TV and had a few written interviews. On the other hand, she hasn't performed there in a long while, and I don't think they really know what to make of her - should she be thought of as Canadian or not? Basically, they have concluded she isn't - the posters listed her as being Belgian - but she has now bought a new house in Quebec, which might change their perception once again. Outside of the PR events that she participated in, she was basically ignored - for example, on Friday the 16th, "La Presse" had a big section concerning "The Weekend of the Stars", with a focus on Madonna and Celine; Lara was not even mentioned. However, on the 17th, after seeing the reaction of the fans, they featured her in an article on the concert.
The general feeling is that seeing the adoration she still commands from at least some of the public in Quebec, and now that she has a real living place there, it would seem likely that she will perform in Quebec more often in the coming years. In response to just that question, she said that she is forced by circumstances to go back to Europe now for the summer concerts, but she implied next year would be different.
And, with respect to that…Lara is definitely recording her new album in Montreal, and she affirmed that this was actually the reason for postponing the West Indies tour. Whereas in France it was referred to as the "Italian" album, in Canada it is known as the "multi-lingual" album, composed of both new songs and reprises (in equal portions) in English, Italian, Spanish and French. This is what she views as the continuation of her English career, and in fact the album was conceptualized with people from the U.S. The big news here is that Lara implied she will give concerts in support of this album in the U.S., presumably next year. And given this type of album, and the new circumstances, it now makes sense that it is being recorded in Montreal (whereas an 'Italian' album did not). It's also been pointed out that the new "Live" album is probably being put together in Montreal as well, so she can work on both albums at the same time. There is still the issue of the summer concerts in France, however.
In advance of the Live album, "Aime" will be released as a single.
On another topic, Lara said that she had received a number of movie offers in which she would be cast as a singer, but that if she was going to do something different, like make a movie, she wanted it to be really different, something offbeat. In that regard, she said there's an important American production for which she has been approached to play the role of a 'profiler', but the casting is still continuing and she can't say anything more about it now. However, timing is still the issue, with the two new albums taking up her time - it's clear that the music career is the higher priority.
Lara indicated that in general she will now take a rest for a while, although her definition may be different from that of other peoples' considering the new albums and those summer concerts. She indicated her health is fine, and the troubles have been gone for over a year. In the near term, Lara apparently will leave Quebec on the 20th and ultimately go to Turkey for her concert there on the 24th. She will not be present at the 25ème ÉDITION DE LA FÊTE DE LA MUSIQUE to be shown live on French 2 on June 21 as had previously been suggested.
