I want to thank you again, Shavon, for this post. My reason for this is that I continue to hear negative things about New Orleans from just about everyone. While I possibly agree with many of the things that are being said, I still feel terrible for what has happened and want to do my part to help and aid those in need. So, thanks again for the nudge, Shavon!

I feel terrible about all the rapes and murders that occured. I don't care how bad it is in NO. There is absolutely no justification for acting like savages.

I totally agree Shavon. I think that it was terrible and I understand the stealing for food and clothing but for the raping and murdering it completely uncalled for. I do understand that some people go a little insane at moments like this but that no reason for hurting others more than they have already been hurt in a terrible situation. I will continue to pray for the victims and the States and do all I can to help them. Thank you for posting about this.

I'm seriously considering changing this thread to Help America get over itself. It is amazing to me that I hear so many people saying "I can't believe this is America.....This is supposed to happen in a third world country... There shouldn't be refugees in America". The arrogrance in this country is enough to choke a person. This is why so many nations hate us. We think we're so much better than everyone else. We think that the world revolves around us.
Well, it sure the hell doesn't. The tragedy did happen in America, and probably will happen again. Just because you're American that doesn't make you untouchable and or above someone else. The arrogrance of Americans will ultimately be the death of us. This natural disaster has taught this country nothing about being humble. There are those who bitch, whine, complain, and moan about when the help was coming. Damn it the help was on the way. You can not save a drowning city in two minutes while there's people scattered all around the damn place. Not to mention the thugs who were on the ground shooting and looting. How the hell can you send in help if the situation on the ground is too dangerous for the aid workers?!
The local and state authorities failed their people. It is not the President's fault that the state of LA has piss poor leadership. You get what you vote for. I find it so hilarious that during the run up to the election the Democrats made damn sure the poor, elderly, and handicapped had tranportation to get to the polls to vote for who THEY wanted in office, but, when the citizens lives' depended on transportation nothing was done. They left the citizens on their own to die and drown. The people of LA need to ask questions of there state leadership first, before laying blame at the President's door step.
WAKE UP AMERICA! STOP BEING SO GOD DAMNED ARROGANT!!

Yes, Shavon, the actions of some in this country are completely frustrating! I couldn't agree more! There are three things that really irritate me about these complainers that you speak of: (1) they are as much LIARS as they are loud , (2) they DO NOT REPRESENT OR SPEAK FOR the overwelming majority of people in this country, including myself, and (3) NOTHING that they are saying, NOT ONE WORD, is contributing in any way or in any measure to the betterment of mankind....or even this country for that matter! It is very unfortunate. If there is ONE thing that gives me hope in all of this, it is that there are so many people who are reaching out in love and giving to the effort to aid and assist those who were victimized by this tragic event. These people are not making the news, and it's because they are not complaining with their mouths....rather they are coming together as a community all across the land to reach out and give from their hearts. If there is one other thing that gives me hope in this, it is knowing that there are people like you, Shavon, who will be a voice for those who are not being heard! Thank you for passionately hating what is wrong and loving what is good.....keep up the good fight!

I hear so much about what people are doing wrong and I was really inspired while watching the ESPN Sunday preview football show (I don't remember what it's called) where they interviewed a few of the New Orlean Saints. These players currently don't have a home either but they had one day off and a bunch of them spent it in Houston. First, buying cart fulls of shampoo, deodorant, clothes, and etc. at Walmart and then bringing that stuff to the people camped out at the Astrodome. They did this instead of looking for a place to live themselves. One of them even bought a man who he and his wife had lost their wedding rings in the hurricane and was at Walmart trying to buy new wedding rings to replace them but didn't have enough money so one of the players bought them for them. They also talked to a man that all he had was a bag of clothes, the clothes on his back and a New Orleans Saints hat on his head and he was looking forward to watching the Saints game for a few hours this afternoon and he also said there's no reason we can't win the Superbowl this year. It brought tears to my eyes at least they can find positives in such a sad situation.
