James Matej, here at LaraFullOfGrace known as JimFromTexas, is more than just a wonderful person....more than just a very interesting and thoughtful and entertaining writer. More than just a pretty face. He is also a very talented musician. A very talented trombonist, to be specific.
A small sampling of his talent on a CD entitled "I'm Back (Even Though No One Noticed I Was Gone)" proves this all too well.
Featuring five songs:
"She's A Lady"
"Here's That Rainy Day"
"Brownsville"
"I'm Back"
"By The Time I Get To Phoenix"
There are two very big disappointments to this album, in my opinion. One is that it is only a little more than eleven minutes long. Right when I am getting fully absorbed in the whole experience of enjoying this thing, it's over....just like that! My response is to put it on continuous replay. This will work temporarily until we can get some more recorded music out of this guy!
The second disappointment is that the album sleeve (as well as the CD label) has the song titles on it, and includes a sixth song called "Sunday" which is crossed out through the middle and in parenthesis beside says the words (not finished). BIG BUMMER! What a tease, Jim!
Here I am, fully enjoying your talent as a musician; totally absorbed in the "atmosphere" that you have created for me (the atmosphere that music has the power to create like no other), and what do you do? You tease me with a song that I am not able to hear because it is yet unfinished?
For that, I believe you owe me a double CD recording (each 80 minutes in length) of you playing trombone. And the first song on the first CD must be "Sunday"! LOL
But, enough of the disappointments. The whole purpose of this post is not at all to complain, but rather to brag about the great talent we have here at LaraFullOfGrace in JimFromTexas.
We've got to not only get this guy in the recording studio, but also get him a record deal!
My personal favorite on the album is "Brownsville". It's a beautiful song. I wish it were ten minutes long.
Jim, thanks for the CD. You have won me over. Consider me a fan!
What's in your iPod? Jim Matej ~ I'm Back (Even Though No One Noticed I Was Gone) is playing in mine.
