The Riddle
Day turns to night then night turns to day With the blink of an eye, it's the next year Snowflake on my eyelash it's cold and I know why I question everything
I'm transfixed on the star sky above the night and unlike mars It's the reason that I'm here which I am there when it doesn't appear
Chorus: Call me strange, call me square Call me anything you like I'm a door, and i can turn, like the seconds on the clock It's the light it is the rain It's the reason I'm missing It's the riddle in my call I'm not what you think at all
Not at all
Tip toe with diplomatic words Am I not exposed, for my wild child supressed Tic toc my day goes Tic toc with every passing cloud I'd even shape an apple tree
Maybe
Chorus: Call me strange, call me square Call me anything you like I'm a door, and i can turn, like the seconds on the clock It's the light it is the rain It's the reason I'm missing It's the riddle in my call I'm not what you think at all
Call me strange, call me square Call me anything you like I'm a door, and i can turn, like the seconds on the clock It's the light it is the rain It's the reason I'm missing It's the riddle in my call I'm not what you think at all

One thing I love about this song is the line "I'm not what you think at all". There is so much in that line. People making judgements about you that are not correct. You putting up a masquerade so that you show people something that you are not. People only seeing a certain side of you so they don't really know you at all. There are so many ways that who you are is absolutely not what people think you are.

There is a lot in that line because there are so many reasons why a person doesn't know another at all. Sometimes the person doesn't allow themselves to be known. They are a mystery for a reason. Sometimes they are not known because the things they are doing are misunderstood. This could be because they have a history that is unknown and therefore cannot be understood. Sometimes, and I think often, a person is not known because people simply do not take the time to get to know and appreciate another simply for who that person is. Most people are not very good "listeners." We come into a relationship with expectations, and all the while we are sizing the person up to see if they fit them. I mean, how often do we not get to know someone because they are 'different' from us? Maybe they are gay, and we are not. Or maybe they talk differently than we do. I've heard friends of mine criticize others for talking like a black person. Well, so what? I mean, they come from that neighborhood, so what else is to be expected? It's not a reason to dismiss the person. Religion, politics, race, sex....anything and everything that can seperate us somehow does. I love the line in the Geoff Moore song "Tearing Down The Walls" when he sings, "You keep tearing down the walls between us, building up the love." Somehow I think that nothing short of His grace will do it.

I love all the things you said. They are so true too.
